I first met Dr. Lam with the help of a friend's referral. She is a pharmaceutical representative and has been working with pretty much all the Doctor's all around the State of Hawaii. I've stayed with him for years because having a doctor who knows you not just by reading off doctors office charts but on a personal level is also great! He has two separate office locations. His main in Liliha just outside of downtown/chinatown and another in Wahiawa. There was only once I had to see him in Wahiawa. His office hours that one day which I can't even remember what day that was. Also what a relief to be able to see Dr. Lam during Covid pandemic when he was operating via Tele-Health. His office is not the fanciest that you'd see at the major hospitals around Honolulu. But you do receive excellent service from his administrative staff Cathleen, the RN and him as well. Scheduling an appointment during office hours is simple, and if you need immediate medical emergency, you're recommended to visit ER. I'm not sure if he's welcoming new patients. But he is bilingual in English and Cantonese. I'm grateful to have found Dr. Lam because I know I can trust him with all my health concerns. Dr. Lam has been my PCP for quite some time now, I've honestly lost track of how many years, and surprised I'm only leaving this here on Yelp. It's August 2021--everyone (e.g. restaurants, schools, entertainment venues, etc.) else has pretty much opened up for business with COVID19--but NOT Dr. Lam. Dr. Lam will NOT see you in-person at his office if you just went to the hospital/ER, if you recently travelled in the past 2 weeks, etc. So, you're basically screwed if you're an individual currently working in a ER/hospital, if you're an individual currently working as a flight attendant or pilot, or if you're and individual currently working as an EMS or police officer who goes to the ER/hospital with patients because you're banned from going to Dr. Lam's office. Dr. Lam's staff will tell you that you "may have" been exposed to COVID19 when you went to the hospital/ER (exposed to COVID19 sick people at ER) so you cannot come to see Dr. Lam at his office. Dr. Lam only allows telehealth for the aforementioned. I guess hospitals/ERs are operating in such unsanitary conditions and are super spreaders of COVID19 (Where's the science, doc?!)?!!! How can Dr. Lam check your lymphs, how can Dr. Lam check your blood pressure, etc. remotely via telehealth? Maybe Dr. Lam is a magician too?! Does Dr. Lam deny in-person office visits if you're and individual living with someone who just returned to the ER/hospital? Does Dr. Lam deny in-person office visits if you're and individual who lives with a family member who just returned from traveling to Vegas? Where do you draw the line? COVID19 has brought out the worst in Dr. Lam. Can't Dr. Lam take a patient's temperature or offer a COVID19 rapid test or allow patients to bring a COVID19 rapid test result or something so they can be seen in-person at his office? I know that Dr. Lam wants to keep his other patients from getting COVID19, but his logic/exemptions take it to the next level?!!! It doesn't matter if you're vax'd. Most people go to the hospital/ER because of a health emergency. Hospital/ER doctors often discharge patients with orders to follow-up with a primary physician. It is NOT reassuring to have Dr. Lam's staff tell you that you canNOT come to the office because you just came from the hospital/ER--and you "may have" been exposed to COVID19. HEADS UP: Dr. Lam will call you hours later in the afternoon (after you call his staff first thing in the morning) and tell you that he doesn't need to see you because he can make referrals to other doctors/specialists and avoid an in-person office visit. So much for "First, do no harm..." Is the doctor shortage allowing doctors to be this selective in who gets seen? This is so inhumane and irrational. read more

Dr. Jason Lam, MD has been my PCP since graduating from college. I was referred to him by friends of family members and I am happy with my experiences so far. While I am currently in pretty good health, especially with my active marathon lifestyle, I usually limit my interaction with doctors and hospitals wherever possible. Most of the visits previously were just annual exams and other minor problems that normally was over with in less than a week or two. There was this time that I stepped on a rusty tack and could not donate blood last November 2011, so I had to get a preventative teatanus shot at his Waihawa clinic on a Saturday afternoon. Dr. Jason Lam has offices in town (Liliha Street) and in Wahiawa on California Avenue. He is bilingual and fluent in Chinese, so as you can imagine, he has a large Chinese client base. He is very smart and knows his patients well, even though you don't visit him for months on end. His offices are small, but very much adequate for the medical care everyone who sees him. On this last visit, I requested a blood draw, just to see where everything was, since I started running marathons. The last blood draw I did was in 2007, where everything was relatively normal since losting just about 80 lbs and killed my first half marathon on Maui. After 42 marathons and 15 half marathons, it was a chance to see what is happening inside of me after all that insanity. Parking is limited in his Liliha offices, but there is a small parking area in front of his office. If there is no parking, you probably would need to park at Liliha Square. His Wahiawa office is located in a shared medical building, which has parking spaces there too. The only thing about having Dr. Lam as your PCP, is that of his office hours. He commutes in between Liliha and Waihawa every day, Monday through Saturday. It depends on the day, but half of the day he is at one location, then he goes to the other one to spend the other half of the day. So, you would need to see his website for his hours to make your appointment. Most of his appointments are in 15 minute blocks, which is pretty good, especially when you are short on time. His offices are standard for what you will find in any medical clinic. Very clean, white, bright, and most often than not, very busy with medical personnel tending to patients and their problems. He accepts most insurances, but check in with the receptionist for any questions you may have about that. I would recommend him to anyone who wants quality medical care with a personal touch. The only thing that is a bit frustrating is that I would have to wait for the billing to arrive in the mail before paying, when I just want to charge it on my credit card. If I could give a zero star I would. I was trying to find my 95 year old uncle a new PCP. First thing this office will ask is, what medical insurance does the individual have with the added, "he isn't on Medicaid right?". Was then informed by a call back later that Dr. Lam does not accept Medicare patients. So I asked, what does he accept? They responded commercial patients only. If I have one piece of advice. Great and professional physician, been my PMD for almost ten years and so as my whole family including mom who loves him, Dr. Lam is very patience, loving, understanding and gives you details as to your visit and final diagnosis conclusion, you'll never leave with an unanswered question or diagnosis. The staff also is very professional and fast, get in get out and get ahead. Dr. Lam is located on the corner of Liliha and vineyard and if you hungry waiting for your appointment, there's a restaurant conjoined to the office and other shops on the corner. read more

Dr. Lam has been my PCP since moving to Honolulu 5 years ago. Granted, his office is nothing special to look at, but he can usually get me in within a day, often times same day, and that is the most important thing to me. Other PCPs have a wait time of weeks to get an appointment. I may have to wait a bit, but if I call him in the morning, alot of times he can get me in before lunch. He takes makes careful records in your electronic chart and follows up on your problems through the year. He is super smart...able to diagnose the core issue quickly. His office is very professional, but also local style, and I always feel well taken care of. read more

Dr. Lam is a great primary care physician and he has been our family doctor for years. He is very intelligent, a terrific listener (with a nice sense of humor), and shows genuine concern for our health. He is also extremely thorough and makes sure the necessary diagnostic tests and preventive measures are completed. He is aware of the latest medical practices and prescriptions and offers honest recommendations for treatment options. The office staff is very accommodating and can often get us an appointment on the same day or next day (depending on the office hours between his two locations -- Honolulu and Wahiawa). The office is simple, but very clean and safe. We highly recommend Dr. Lam for you and your family. read more
