Dr. Lam's office is in the Kaheka Professional Center. There's an entrance located on Kaheka Ave. pass the Longs Pharmacy. They have a private parking lot on Liona St. that the doctor validates, and there's also meter parking all around. The building is very old and you'll immediately feel it when you take the elevator. His office is a little small, and he is VERY busy. There's people everywhere just waiting to see him. The way he does it is first come, first serve, along with appointments. There's only one receptionists and an aide who both are working nonstop. I'm not very sure if they're accepting new patients. I took my grandma this time, and I needed to help her go inside. Dr. Lam is one of the most patient, caring, understanding, compassionate, genuine, kind-hearted doctor I've ever met. I'm happy to see my grandma is in good hands.

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the front desk employee who checks patients in at the desk on the left side when you walk in. Both times I've been here, she's come across as cold and unwelcoming. Her tone is very monotone, and it felt like I was bothering her just by checking in. During my follow-up visit, it looked like she was eating lunch, so maybe the timing wasn't ideal, but this was the second time I had the same experience. After my first visit, I figured maybe she was just having a bad day. But after the same interaction happened again, I felt it was worth mentioning. I'm not trying to be mean or get anyone in trouble. I just think the person who greets patients is the first impression of the office, and a simple smile or friendly attitude can make a big difference. Especially in a healthcare setting where people may already be stressed or nervous. Other than that, my experience was great, and I'd definitely come back. I just hope the front desk experience becomes as welcoming as the care provided by everyone else.

I absolutely DO NOT recommend this physician…read more I am a retired ICU Registered Nurse. My husband is a retired physician. I was referred to Dr Yang for a colonoscopy - a 3 year post - polyp removal follow up. Below were some of my many concerns: 1.I found his administrative staff to be polite but incompetent - especially a male named Vincent. Vincent would repeatedly contact me over the course of 4 months to request my "healthcare authorization". Which I repeatedly re-sent. This was actually not what he needed. He was actually requesting my "health history". 2. The weekend before my scheduled "pre -procedure" appointment - Vincent contacted me yet again to let me know they had not yet received my "healthcare authorization". He said they would have to "cancel" my pre - procedure appointment " if they did not receive my paperwork by 5pm on that Friday. I again sent my "medical authorization " paperwork. Unfortunately- it was a Friday. And I realized my appointment was at 8am the following Monday. I did not want them to cancel an appointment that I had waited 4 months for. So - I contacted Dr Yang via cell number provided by voicemail. I reached him - and he was audibly disturbed that I had dared to contact him regarding ensuring that my appointment was kept as my paperwork was in order...he did wish to concern himself with such a trivial matter. I found him to be abrupt, condescending....and rude over the phone. 3. I showed up early on Monday morning with my husband at my side. Dr Yang was late. His waiting room was small- there were 3 other patients waiting with me. So - he's "cramming" 4 patients into an 8am time slot - with only ONE physician. As he entered - he was clearly irritable- he barked at his front desk staff to remove a sign from his office front door. As I was seated right next to the door - and his staff were behind an enclosed desk ( they would have had to walk around) - to be helpful I got up and removed the sign as he wished. He did not like that. He wanted his own staff to do as he bid. Already off to a bad start. 4. During my office visit - it became very clear that it was a "pre-procedure" visit. For a COLONOSCOPY. I've had 2 previous colonoscopies. The purpose of my visit was so that he could SELL me his "special" colon prep. And he wanted to explain to us personally all the details of his colon prep. During this entire visit - he was rude and condescending. He did not like the fact that I had called him personally on the weekend to ensure that I would see him Monday morning. He did not like the fact that both my husband and I were a nurse and a physician - he needed to let us understand we knew our place in HIS world. 5. We bought his "special" colon prep. I went home - and realized that Dr Yang was probably the worst physician I have ever encountered- both as a nurse working at Straub Hospital in their ICU...and as a patient. Horrible bedside manner...and I certainly was not willing to find out if his clinical skills were any better by letting him insert a scope into my unconscious body. I wrote above so that every person on Oahu would understand that they do not need to be treated in such an ABUSIVE way and receive substandard care from any physician. Just walk away. NO. I cancelled the appointment with him. Dr Russell Yang should never practice again. Dr James W O'Brien at Surgicare Hawaii eventually did my colonoscopy. He was EXCELLENT.

I was told I was being admitted into the hospital soon after I arrived in the ER room. I was still waiting for a general check up to be made. I opined that I think you have the wrong person. No labs were done on me yet! I was checked by a doctor and a medical student. My name and birth date were verified. I thought what on earth is going on. I was just about to be wheeled out of the room when a nurse came running in and asked the doctor and medical student to go outside! They both left me! No explanation. How odd I thought to myself. Later, it was explained to me that they had the wrong person! Yowzaa! So while I waited for tests, a medical technician came into my room and proceeded to explain I needed this special test to be done on me. I thought that was odd since I was still awaiting other basic tests. The technician verified my name and date of birth before proceeding with the specific procedure. So I went along with it. About 15-20 minutes during this procedure, a nurse came running into the room and told the technician to immediately stop the procedure! I was plugged into all sorts of things! I asked what is going on as the technician said she needed to finished the procedure. The nurse said I wasn't the person who was supposed to get this procedure done on!! Okay, this is the second time while I was in the ER room that they got the wrong person! The technician even opined that I hope I'm not billed for this procedure. Well at this point I felt very unsafe. I kept thinking that I was very fortunate to have been awake and not unconscious upon my entry into the ER. I asked the nurse to be sure to write this up in a report so that I would not be billed for the procedure and about what occurred today. I also double checked with staff that everything else that was done to me thereafter in the ER was for actually for me and not another patient! Can you blame me? The ER doctor later confirmed the mixup between patients. There's more detail that I'm leaving out in this review for privacy reasons. But I definitely will be checking what I am billed for by Kuakini Medical Center. I was subsequently released from the ER the same day.

Clean, pretty easy to maneuver, as you enter the main doors, a dedicated information desk manned by dedicated volunteers can help you get to where you need to go. But of course on a visit I focused on the dining options and I have to say the food was pretty good, just a simple scrambled eggs, rice and corned beef hash (canned) and a taste of their fried rice. All enough to satisfy a mornings craving for sure. Not spectacular, but satisfying. Service, like the rest of the hospital seems to be friendly, helpful and efficient. It shows in the way the employees interact with each other. Normally one does not specifically target to visit a hospital for their cafeteria offerings. This is not the case either. But if you are at this hospital on business and are hungry or thirsty, their cafeteria called the Bistro is definitely a resonable option.
