Originally booked the Adam Handling but when that was closed was moved to this new concept. We had a very mixed experience. First, I was a little annoyed that the booking was taken to Adam Handling and we were not informed of the change until the reservation was automatically reconfirmed. It left us limited options.
On the positive side, the head waiter (or mature d') was very enthusiastic and really tried hard. He steered us away from a wine that obviously has not always gone over well to a choice we really enjoyed. Overall, the wine list had a great variety of wines by the glass.
Also positive was the steak tartare. Prepared table-side (no big deal there) it had a nice complexity of flavor, definitely very good steak tartare. Also shared a cheese plate, good diversity and quality of the cheeses.
The Dover sole, though, was quite disappointing. It was slightly over-cooked (ends were dried out) and had virtually no seasoning or sauce. Sole is usually a signature dish (and it was priced higher than the lobster) and it was just not very good here (compared with Rick Stein, where you want to go back the next day). I did like the zucchini fries we ordered with it.
Overall, the four of us had some other wins and misses but the misses were greater than the wins. Also, for those who are concerned with Covid, several members of staff were not wearing masks and the ones who were did not cover their noses. As the waiters did come pretty close (and obviously breathe near the food), I did expect them to wear masks properly, it's not that hard. read more
