Having wine paired with our dishes was brilliant, making the restaurant extra special! This restaurant is in Mandarin Oriental's basement, but it has these red sexy loungey vibes. You could see colleagues having dinner, and some people enjoying a cute date night! My mom had french onion soup for her appetizer, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My dad and I shared the octopus, which we wanted extra charred. It was beautifully cooked, served + presented. Plus, it was a good piece (not something you can say about most places with their octopus lol) I think I could order the octopus for my entree and be content. But we didn't stop there I ordered the steak, my mom ordered a veggie burger and my dad ordered a regular burger - the dishes weren't crazy exquisite or over the top, but it was just good food. My mom did rave about the veggie burger though - I think it was a falafel pattie? smelled nice as well!

Go to Bar Boulud, if you're in London! Relax in the formal, yet laid back Art Deco surroundings,…read morewhile the wait staff bring course after course of delicious food. We tried a lot of dishes and honestly, there's not a single one I wouldn't order again! Here was our meal with descriptions: Drinks - Watermelon & cucumber gin & tonic - Old Fashioned Appetizers - Baguettes and butter (complimentary): fresh and airy start to the meal. - Small Charcuterie board: We really enjoyed the shredded duck and the jamon. The wheat bread accompanying the charcuterie was also delicious! Small pickles and dogs decorate the plate to balance the salty with sweet. - Lobster roll paired with Sunset white wine: So decadent and delicious! This isn't your standard lobster roll. The buttered roll and the lobster bits were the perfect balance of tasty and satisfying. Dinner - Loup de Mer: after so many appetizers, I was looking for a lighter entree. The sea bass was prepared so well, and layered over grains with marinated peach pieces. I loved the balance of sweet and savory, and would definitely order again. Pair with the Sunset white wine. - Steak Frites: Amazing! The fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. The bearnaise sauce served alongside the steak complemented the dish so well, making each bite better than the last. Paired with a Merlot. Dessert: - Vanilla bean with berry cream birthday dessert: Way to make a girl feel special on her birthday! This dessert was so light and tasty, I loved the final touch Bar Boulud put on my perfect birthday dinner. - Vanilla Mille-Feuille: Puff Pastry filled with vanilla cream and topped with a lace of caramel sauce. YUM! So flaky, but we scooped up those extra pieces with the side of homemade vanilla ice cream, so no complaints here!

I had booked a table in advance and a cool corner was reserved for us, which was great as the venue was unsurprisingly busy. The staff were just amazing, particularly our server, Deepika. She gave us recommendations for wine and our cheese plate selections and both were spot on. We had selections from the set menu, and both food and service were fab, where Deepika made sure our wine and water glasses were refreshed and that we were ready for each course rather than simply presenting the food. We had some dessert wine with our cheese course and although only one dessert wine was on the menu, it was a good pairing with the cheese and each made the other taste even better. We lingered over lunch but were never made to feel that Cote wanted us out of there on what was a very busy day for the venue. A very relaxing experience as well as being a tasty one.

This French place embodies the best sense of the French phrase "c'est correct," which means so much…read moremore than the literal meaning of doing things right. To an American, you would ask, why do things correctly? But it is perhaps the highest compliment, and I learned to appreciate that when I lived in Paris. English people know the value of doing things properly. French staff and clients? Beveled mirrors and touches of engraved glass? Short, non-flowery menu descriptions? Check check check. I think in a number of years when the floor gets more scuffed, and they cram the tables together more, it will feel downright parisien. I just had to get the duck confit, as I always do, and it was very good. You could see the rebellion showing through, however, as it was served on a bed of beans and sauce of pureed green herbs. To finish, the froid-chaud, or as we Americans call it, a hot-fudge sundae. All in all, a thoroughly satisfying meal. Gluten-free notes: Many French dishes are naturally gluten free! The whole thing of "all French sauces are full of flour" is utter rubbish, as I learned while living in Paris for several years. They were able to confirm which dishes were gluten free.

The service was incredible and it's evident that the wait staff here are at the top of their game and enjoying what they do. You'd think they had been open for years rather than just a few months. Clientele seemed to be mostly French, or at least they were able to speak French very well. This I have to say only added to the atmosphere, which is definitely formal enough to be a special occasion place but by no means stiff. We ordered a half bottle of the Gewürztraminer which was the second cheapest on the list, but the quality was very impressive. If that's anything to go by I suspect the rest of the wine list is very good indeed. We ate from the set lunch menu which is extremely reasonably priced and the standard of the food was enough to have us planning a visit in the near future for the full A la Carte experience. Can't wait! Great Service, Great Food, Great Wine. Go here as soon as you can before the secret gets out!
