Great place for a meal. Food is amazing and the portions are latge. The staff is super friendly.

Excellent! I was very surprised to find that this restaurant is so authentically Mexican. It's difficult to find even local Mexican restaurants that are good anymore. This is under the radar. You would never know it's a Mexican restaurant by its name, but it is homemade it's one of the best Mexican meals I've had in sometime!! Very friendly, very cordial very inviting. read more

I ordered a chorizo burrito with yellow rice and refried beans. Delicious! The burrito was large and stuffed with goodness. The yellow rice was nice and firm and the refried beans had nice flavor. The salsa is picante, um hmm. I ordered this to go: sour cream, salsa, and a nice sauce were included along with utensils and napkins. The service was attentive, really polite. The space is clean ... and comfortable. read more

We drove by this place, but made a U turn. I'm glad we did. Lakeview Grill's name actually disguises what's really inside. And that is really good Mexican food. We had tacos... beef and chicken. A little past prime lunch hour, and we were the only ones there. Wife raved about her tacos. I enjoyed mine. Keep in mind, as I always warn, this is not Bern's steakhouse. It is a small, I'm guessing, family-run operation with A/C running full blast and it's still warm inside. Several fans help circulate the warm air. But the Corona is cold, and the chips and salsa are good. We'll be back. read more

The Pastor Tacos were "street style" and I love them! Here you can choose that style, cilantro and onions, or your "gringo" style, lettuce, tomato, and onion! The refined beans and rice (with peas and diced red peppers) were spot on! I've also ordered the Fiesta Lime Chicken, based on my asking for the server's recommendation! This place was a great surprise as I take out for me and my workmates at the Y just north of here! I love the couple who own this place. They so kind and inviting! Greasing Mexican food OK service not clean inside beer cold soda, iced tea used to be good. It's OK now. used to be good breakfast.

After reading a mix of reviews saying this place is either nothing or the best, we decided to see for ourselves. Basically we were not impressed. The name of the restaurant doesn't reflect the food type, but it's clearly a Mexican restaurant. Inside the decor is Mexican, 90% of the menu is Mexican, & everyone is speaking Spanish. The waitress was kind & did a good job. She brought a small basket of chips & a small bowl of salsa to the table. The chips were heavily salted. The salsa seemed to be plain tomato sauce that had a tiny bit of spice to it. It was very unimpressive. I ordered 2 chicken enchiladas for $8. The enchiladas turned out to be very small with only a tiny bit of filling. I requested the dish be half covered in red sauce & half in green. The green sauce was actually very tasty & spicy. I believe it had both tomatillos & jalapeños in it. The red sauce was even plainer than the salsa. It was flavorless & bland. I keep looking for Mexican restaurants like I'm used to back in California, or Arizona, or New Mexico, or Texas, or Oklahoma. I shall keep searching. read more

Not a very clean place. Hair in the salsa. Had the Mexican pizza - not fully cooked in middle. Tried the place but won't be going back.

Halfway through the meal, a asked if I checked in to the wrong place. I had to double check. Yup, this is the place with all the good reviews. I was mislead. I read the reviews, and I was prepared for the place to be a dump; it was. What I wasn't prepared for was the heat. It's July, and nearly 90 degrees outside and as soon as I walked in, I was hit with a heat wave. It was 10 to 15 degrees cooler outside. Maybe the A/C was broken, I don't know. The service was bad. The second server was flat-out rude. Neither offered to refill my empty drink. Finally, when we were finished, we waited for a while. Then, we decided we would just stand up until someone acknowledged us. Even that took a while. Now, on to the food. Nothing was delicious, some stuff was okay, and some of it was really bad. I took one bite of the "salsa" and I was done. First time that's ever happened in my life. It was the worst. It was as if someone squeezed a tomato, poured the juice in a bowl and said, "done"! I ordered three tacos (chicken, pork, and chorizo), the chorizo was okay, and the other two were below average. I tried a fish taco, but the fish had a bad smell. On a positive note, the food came out fast, and wasn't too expensive. It is so hot inside! I can't get over how awful the "salsa" was. I'll not go back for many reasons, and I don't recommend this to anyone. read more

The good is VERY good. Prices were very reasonable and the staff are nice. Our portion sizes were huge. Only thing I was disappointed in is we were the only people in the building and it wasn't a mood. No music not real atmosphere. Again take nothing away from this great place. It's probably a dinner place being that it's off main roads. Will definitely go back. The portion sizes were huge. Lol. read more

This has been become a favorite place for my co-workers and I. Fast delivery, friendly service and great food are always consistent! One time on my lunch break I came in, only to find my co-worker sitting there too! Come to find out, she's a long time regular, and I can clearly see why. The cook is personable, the wait staff attentive and I feel full and satisfied with every meal. One day, after I went to a fast food place that botched up my order I stopped in Lakeview and placed an order. They promptly cooked and delivered the food in excellent time and it never lacked quality. I'm a happy customer who certainly will return. :) read more

I have only good things to say about Lakeview Grill. I found it on Yelp (of course) when I was searching for an authentic Mexican place to take some of my students on our way back from a beach photography trip. There didn't seem to be anything in Clearwater Beach, so we drove a ways and I'm so glad we did. It was a total hole in the wall, and it would be easy to pre-judge it and not give it a real chance. I wish I could tell you what my students got, but frankly, once my ceviche tostadas came, I think I lost all awareness of anything else. They were so fresh and so incredibly flavorful after a long day of driving and sand that I think I may have entered another plain. *swoon* Was very excited to sit in the air conditioning with Mexican cokes (yesssss) and great food. We were also completely charmed by the decorations in the restaurant, including the elephant figurines by our table and ESPECIALLY by the amazing paintings in the bathrooms. Man, even if you don't go for the food, go for the paintings. You won't regret it. Also loved the faux roof/overhang running along the upper walls. Gives a nice little bodega feel. The only things that could be improved would really be a different setup inside. The table arrangement is a little weird and it's open to the kitchen with a half wall running along one side. It kind of felt like we were floating far away from everyone else. And, well, the parking lot, though I don't think there's anything that can be done about that. It's essentially one way in and angled so you have to back out all the way into the street. During busier hours I can see that being a real problem. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic dining experience and next time I'm in the area, I will absolutely be going back for more. read more

I love places like this. Lakeview Grill is a small, off the beaten path mexican dive. The people who work there could not be nicer. They welcomed us as we came in and seemed to genuinely want to make us happy (which we were). The food was terrific. Everything we ate, which was a lot, was just outstanding. The style runs towards authentic regional, but it's not purist in that way. They will go out of their way to give you want you want. The storefront is next to a gas station on Lakeview. It's not much to look at. But, I assure you, there is no reason to hesitate to give it a try. read more

I've gotta say that the other reviews nailed it when the said this is a hole in the wall. It's one of those hole in the wall that you want to find though. The food is pretty authentic. The salsa is not chunky, but it really tastes nice and developed. The spice was perfect. I had a chili relleno. I loved it. The red sauce was amazing, couldn't stop eating it. Dom had a steak quesadilla and he raved the whole time. The service good. The server wasn't overly friendly, but he was helpful and definitely not rude. Update. You know how it goes. You find somewhere you like (see above) and you bring someone back for another great experience and it's a fail. I asked for a side and the server told me they were too busy. . Huh? Update 5/1/2013 Stopped with 2 other guests to let them try out Lakeview's consistently good flavors. Between 2 of us we had carnitas, lamb, chorizo, chicken and al pastor tacos, all excellent flavor and well seasoned. Our third party had the egg and chorizo breakfast burrito with cheese, rice, and beans. I had never had the burrito here so I made sure to have a taste and it was solid flavors as well. Lakeview is still a favorite of mine whenever I'm in the area, and I'll continue to return. 11/1/2011 Nicolas, the chef at Lakeview Grill, serves up a winning combination of an extensive menu with great flavors, attentive and friendly service, a very pleasant environment and good prices. For that, Lakeview Grill has earned it's place near the top of my Most Authentic Mexican Restaurants in Pinellas list: http://www.yelp.com/list/most-authentic-mexican-restaurants-in-pinellas-clearwater The restaurant is in a free-standing building fronted with glass that brightens the entire interior with sunlight. The decor is simple, but the room is very neat and clean. I'm guessing there are probably ~75 seats, including booths around the edge of the room, and tables in the center. The extensive menu is on their website, so I won't exhaust the details. Highlights are big variety of 8 specials and breakfasts, 10 soups, most all of the standard taqueria items, 10 dinners with all manner or meats, 6 seafood dishes, 7 sandwiches (including burgers), 6 salads, 7 appetizers, 5 desserts and a kids' menu. There are even a few Greek dishes. The menu includes a few unusual items not often seen in this area including tlacoyos, oval shaped rolls made of masa (corn flour). They're like fresh corn tortillas, but are shaped like a torpedo and much thicker. The tlacoyos are then stuffed with ingredients/toppings. Other unusual items are empanadas stuffed with either huitlacoche (aka corn smut, actually a fungus...."think mushrooms" ....that grows on corn plants. It's known by mushroom enthusiasts as "porn on the cob"!) or flor de calabaza (squash blossoms). Soon after I sat down, a bowl of super thin & crisp tortilla chips with a red salsa (both extremely tasty) landed on the table, followed by a Modelo Especial brew. I ordered up a plate of 3 tacos ($5.25). The carnitas was very flavorful pulled pork, the chorizo had excellent spicy flavor, and the lamb was just incredible. A few local Mexican restaurants offer lamb on the weekends, but Lakeview has it on the menu every day, and it's also available in their lamb stew. The salsa verde available for the tacos was also delicious with a great combination of flavors and heat. The service was excellent throughout the meal, with the friendly waitress stopping by many times to make sure I was satisfied or if I needed anything. I was still eating when the restaurant emptied out, and Nicolas came out from the kitchen and introduced himself, and he also asked about the food and if I needed anything. We then struck up a conversation about his food, as well as other Mexican food found in the local area. He mentioned that his clientele is largely locals who have been longtime customers. Given the great food and service, I can understand why folks come back often. Although I live a good bit away, I know I'll do the same. My scores on a Pinellas taqueria scale: Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Food: 5 Value: 5 Also, here is the article on Lakeview Grill's soups that Don C. referred to in his review: http://www.tampabay.com/features/food/restaurants/article938961.ece read more

They have shrimp, and they have tacos, but they haven't figured out how to put then together. I asked if I could get shrimp tacos, but they said no. The salsa and chips were the worst that I ever had in a mexican restaurant. The salsa was watery and flavorless. I ordered fish taco, it was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. The service was not friendly, and I felt rushed to order. We were the only customers there. Also, it was uncomfortably warm inside. I don't think I'll go back. I looked at the existing reviews today, got excited, and took my brother over to the Lakeview Grill for lunch. I try not to judge a restaurant too much on the ambiance, but this one did bother me a little. It did not appear to be clean. The owner / employees provided friendly and efficient service. They patiently explained how items on the menu were prepared, and offered modifications for first time diners. Now, I don't know what genuine Mexican cuisine is like. Never been anywhere but the border towns, and I doubt I'll be going anywhere in Mexico soon considering the well publicized violence that seems endless. But the chips did not impress and the orange-red watery substance served with them did not do anything for us either. The entrees were better. Presentation was nice. The flavor of the food was good. I ordered cheese enchiladas with onions (photo attached). My brother enjoyed his tacos. But I couldn't help but look around while eating and wonder what the kitchen or bathrooms looked like. And I just couldn't get over that. read more

I work close by and have driven past Lakeview Grill many times, but was always hesitant to give it a try as it doesn't look too impressive from the outside. Finally, today I had a serious craving for Mexican food and after reading the Yelp reviews decided to give it a try. I called ahead and ordered take out enchiladas with rice and beans for myself and coworkers. They accomodated our special requests and told us to come by in 15 minutes. When I arrived the food was ready and seemed freshly made. The decor inside is actually quite nice and bright compared to how it looks from the outside. Everyone was friendly. Upon trying the food it really was fantastic. Everything had great flavor and was plenty of food for the money. My coworkers also agreed with that as well. Where to start. We went out on a Wednesday evening looking for good Mexican food. We didn't find it. We arrived at Lakeview Grill at 7:45pm to find a completely empty restaurant, first sign of oh oh. Went to restroom to wash my hands and it was revolting in both appearance and smell. Which made me mentally question what the food would be like. Oh oh number 2. We ordered guacamole and chips and salsa. It's difficult to believe a restaurant that bills itself as Mexican food could serve guacamole and salsa that bad. The guacamole appeared to be reconstituted and runny and completely tasteless. The salsa looked like it came from a can. It looked and tasted like a bowl of tomato sauce. The Carne Asada was a tasteless, bland and flavorless piece of meat. The Mixed Grill Fajita plate was only a tad bit better. It had a little flavor, not much, just a little. The cheese covered shrimp still even had the tail of it. To be honest I'm a bit surprised we haven't gotten ill from the food. On a positive side, the presentation of the plates was nice as you can see from the pictures. Overall this restaurant was a bust. Wish I could say something else positive but there is nothing. Would give it a zero if I could. Do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I went here last summer with my mom who was visiting from out of state. We were craving Mexican food and this was close to my house so we figured what the heck. The parking was horrible. The lot is tiny and it is difficult to navigate in it. We went inside and it was SO HOT!! We sat down and after about 5 minutes someone finally brought us menus. The waitress was not friendly and didn't even get our drink order. We sat there for at least 5 more minutes waiting for her to come back and she never did. We got up and left. No air conditioning in the middle of the summer was enough to make me lose my appetite- the horrible service was the frosting on the cake. Will not go back. read more

I read a bunch of different reviews of this place and I guess i was just there on an off day. The chips were from a bag and not freshly made, the salsa tasted like watered ketchup and you can almost taste the garden hose that the water came from. I ordered the Chili Relleno and had to report my disappointment in the flavor, very bland. My Wife ordered the Beef Burrito which is the only thing that kept me from giving this place a 1. the beef was delicious and well seasoned. On the whole, i won't be returning. read more

If you want fresh, authentic Mexican food, you should try this place. I recommend take out as it isn't charming in anyway, at all, not even a little bit. The staff, I'm pretty sure it's all family, is very friendly and willing to make what you want as opposed to what it says on the menu. I have been several times and have not been disappointed in the food. So my family went here today to eat early dinner. The older woman that sat us was nice but the younger waitress was very unpleasant and her service was poor. The food came and it was ok but the problem was they charged us $1 extra for every meal we ordered. And when I asked her about it she showed me a sign that sad due to meat shortage we raised our prices. You would think that in times like this businesses would be rolling out the red carpet. But not this place. Do yourself a favor and go to Taco Bell instead. Skip this place as I will never go back again. read more

We frequent this establishment for many reasons. The food is delicious and economical! Don't worry because you will get big portions for little money. First, I'm going to tell you this is a complete hole in the wall kind of place! Any dress attire is fine. Second, I will tell you it is extremely good authentic Mexican food. The best I have found in the Clearwater area. This is owned by a local Mexican family. They are super nice and always very accommodating to us. We have been there many times and always enjoy the food and service. One of my favorite dishes is the fiesta lime chicken it is very tender and the sauce is so good! Rice and beans are always a good traditional accompaniment. There are Mexican pizza is also the bomb! Very much worth the calories LOL. And for dessert my favorite is the homemade flan! You just can't go wrong if you like flan. All in all a yummy restaurant for that last minute meal with the family after a long day of work. Friendly service with authentic Hispanic food, Lakeview Grill is fast becoming our local go-to restaurant for a tasty meal in under an hour. Locally family owned, the dishes are prepared by the owner who nearly always comes out of the kitchen halfway through the meal to chat with guests about their meal and ensure everything is too your liking. My go to dishes include Fiesta Lime Chicken - grilled flattened chicken breast topped with roasted yellow corn, fresh tomatoes, onions, & cilantro with a side of rice & beans; Chicken Enchiladas topped with cheese, a slightly spicy red sauce, tomatoes, onions & cilantro with a side of rice and beans; my favorite lamb soft tacos dry - 3 soft tacos made from scratch corn tortillas with shredded lamb topped with onions and cilantro, you can ask for them "wet" by adding red sauce. Following your meal, don't forget to try the flan. This homemade creamy custard is dripping with a light caramel sauce, just the right amount of sweet after a spicy dish. They also have plain ice cream for less discriminating tastes. They offer a variety of appetizers, salads, soups and have a kids menu with several options to choose from. They have a decent selection of beer, standard wine selection: white or red, no liquor. Take out is also offered. The ambiance has a lot to be desired and the outside doesn't look like much but the food is what you come for. read more
