I have been to this vet twice. The first time was back in 2019, and I would have given them 5 stars. My cat had an ear infection they gave me an antibiotic, and it cleared up in a few days. I went again recently for the same issue and the same cat and had a different experience (I think it is a different doctor than before). They did confirm it was a bacterial ear infection and that he needed antibiotics and charged be $450. They were trying to upsell a culture test for an additional $250. His ear is not clearing up over a week later and they want me to bring him in again for another physical. I already know it is a bacterial ear infection, and he needs a stronger antibiotic. I do not want to stress the cat again and pay the money for another physical when I know the issue. I will not be going back to this vet. read more

I was bringing a foster dog here, as this was the veterinary practice the rescue used. The staff that work here are great, friendly, easy going, truly interested in your pet, they all seem knowledgeable. Dr. Dixon evaluated the poor dog for really bad ear infections. He had to use anesthesia to treat him, the dog was in so much pain and the infection so advanced. They operated the same day and I picked him up a couple of hours later, in great shape. I am an R.N., picky about my pets care. I wouldn't hesitate to take my pets here. read more

A few weeks ago I came home to find that my female cat wasn't eating, drinking, or putting any weight on her front right paw so I took her to the emergency vet in La mesa. High fever, 12 hours of waiting, and a few X-rays later and all they could tell us was it might be a fracture but they can't tell and sent us home with some pain meds and was told to wait and see if she improves. Nothing worked. She still wasn't eating, drinking, or walking and I could feel the heat radiating off of her so I took her to lakeside veterinary hospital where thankfully they had an opening that day. The La mesa hospital sent over her records and Dr Dixon was able to review them. Her temperature was still high and we were surprised the La mesa vet didn't address it at all. Dr Dixon and his team took some blood work and gave her 2 weeks worth of antibiotics, different pain meds, and a daily vitamin liquid and in less than 24 hours she was back to normal. A complete 180! The questionable fracture turned out to be a soft tissue infection. I will forever be grateful for the amazing treatment provided by Dr. Dixon and his team and won't take my animals anywhere else. I have provided a picture of my sweet girl at the vet and one taken later that day. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Malpractice, incompetent, and should have their licenses taken. I have a border collie. I have gotten to learn a lot about the herding breads since this occurrence and have had to take him to the emergency vet hospital. After my pup was neutered here the doctors, who I trusted at the time, gave him acepromazine for a sedative to keep him calm. This lead to 2 seizures! My aunt happens to be a vet, both her and the emergency vets were astounded he would ever give this to a border collie or any herding bread dog at the 50% chance they have MDR1 mutation which would make this medication UNSAFE for these dogs when there are other options like trazadone for the same effects and shown to be safe with these breeds. I had them check the other medications he prescribed which thank God they have not arrive yet and AGAIN! They said oh no absolutely do not give that to him and prescribed a SAFE one for this breed. When I contact the doctor he said "well I am sorry, I am not a mind reader, how was I supposed to know he would have the reaction? I guess now we know he probably has the mutation." WHAT?!? Are you kidding me! My dog has now had to incur these traumas, I have missed 2 days of work, now have medical expenses we would not have incurred, have had to watch my poor pup go through this, and all you have to say is you are not a mind reader and you are sorry with a very flippant tone. Please I urge no one if you care about your animals to go here. read more

I took my dog to her three weeks ago for nails, and glands. I had to take him to another vet because she never clipped his nails nor did she do his glands. Per the new vet, his glands were completely full. That was only mentioned when I asked the vet how his glands were. His nails are much shorter than when he went into the 2nd vet. My fur baby got a foxtail in her paw. I called her regular vet and couldn't get in for two weeks. This vet got her in and took care of her. They gave me meds to squirt into the wound but she fought me so bad I couldn't do it. They had me bring her in every day and they were able to handle her. Today was the last day for this treatment and she isn't due to go back until May 1 but they told me to bring her back a week early just to check and make sure she's doing okay. I recommended this vet and I'm considering changing to them. read more

2 stars: they do answer phone and I do believe the techs do their job. The rest of my experience with this vet is unfortunately unflattering. There is a reason why Rescue Fenix uses this vet: it's sub par just like the shady rescue. As a foster parent I have brought the dogs here to get fixed (2 dogs in total). One was a husky boy whom I adopted and other was a female whom I no longer care for. My boy had stitches that as an RN I assumed were dissolvable since I didn't get instructions to remove them myself! I later found out I had to pull them out of a crazy husky puppy on my own. I had to carry him out since he was still sedated and was loopy but was told "he is ready to go". I know a few things about recovering OR patients and that's not ready to go by any means. My latest experience was when I brought my other rescue of 3 years for a cyst on her head which has been there for 2 weeks prior to visit. The vet "ruled out" tumor just by looking at it and thought it's filled with fluid. They charged me for needle aspiration but poked dog 3 times and aspirated nothing. When I asked why I'm charged for aspiration of solid mass I was told "we charge if we try it". Oh ... ok! Took her to Vetco for second opinion and continuity since Lakeside vet is on vacation this week. The vet at Vetco was surprised that a technician was assigned to aspirate a "cyst" since that's not something that is delegated to a tech. Vetco Dr took several samples and sent them off immediately to cytology. She also enlightened me that there are tumors that may shrink from its original size so ruling out anything before cytology comes back is, well, negligent. Overall, I will not be back at Lakeside vet. Vetco is a slightly more expensive but reliable and reputable experience thus far. read more

My moony/small poodle/was coughing all night. I was extremely worried and thought maybe she ate some chicken bones or some other ailment. I was able to make an appointment with a Lakeside veterinarian hospital, and they got me in very quickly. the good doctor checked out my dog let me know that it was an upper respiratory ailment and not to worry I got sent home with antibiotics and I have a cough suppressant coming in the mail. This veterinarian is by far the best one I've been to. My dog needed surgery to remove tumors she had. During surgery they notified me that the tumors grew in places that couldn't be removed and advised me it would be best to put her down so she wouldn't suffer. Although I had to make the decision to put her down they were very compassionate and took the greatest care for our final wishes for her. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an honest, compassionate and knowledgable veterinarian. I still have one dog so I will be seeing them for all my pet care needs. read more

The service that you received at Lakeside Vet hospital is subpar at best. Dr Dixon assures you that he is educated and will be performing the requested services then he passes his responsibilities to his office assistants so you never truly know who is going to be performing any services on your dog, and your poor pet reaps the consequence. They steal your dog's collars, carriers, blankets and anything else you bring in there and pretend like they don't know where they went. They also overcharge you for services that they perform and then they charge you for services that were never performed. They are completely below standards and if you care for your animal at all, you would never take them there! read more

After reading paperwork I picked up from this vets office, I decided to leave the truth here. I went in due to my cats nose swelling. During the exam the male vet stated that her stomach was bloated and might be a liver issue, which this is a first I've been ever told this. We agreed in that moment that the nose issue was priority, so I declined the liver test. At this time the visit and one test for cancer was going to be $425. They told me the test would probably come in early the following week. As I got no calls from them and the swelling is getting worse, I called them. Finally on Thursday they told me what she had, so I asked about the medication. Was told I would get a call from the vet. No call, so I called again Friday to ask and the different front desk person was like we don't have your results, which I said yes you do they were read to me yesterday. Finally they gave me the name of the anti fungal meds and called around to get pricing, I found a place and ask them to call it in. I even followed up via email. Already Been a huge game of phone tag as the front desk people won't give you any information. The following week I spoke to the doctor and all he suggested was to read up on her condition. After going back and forth about the incorrect message he received from his staff of me wanting a copy of the phone message and I told him no, you said I needed to take a picture of something and I asked if it could be emailed. Even at this time there was no explanation given as to why they were delaying to give me the prescription for her meds. So after playing additional phone tag, I spoke to the vet again and he had an attitude. Proceeded to accuse me of declining the liver test and this is why he couldnt give her meds. When I stated he never told me this, his response was im not going to get into a pissing contest. Which my response to his rudeness was he needed to communicate with his customers. When I attempted to discuss the best options for her due to multiple health concerns and her age, he kept cutting me off and trying to defend his poor actions. Tried to make it out to sound as I waived the liver test preventing her from getting treatment and I didn't want to follow his advice. However, we agreed from the beginning that the liver matter was not priority and of course he didn't mentioned that the meds she needed could be dangerous if she has a liver problem. Over $400 later and still no relief for my kitty. You accuse me of being disrespectful and yet your poor communication between the office and customers is unacceptable. You act superior and have your facts completely screwed up and wouldn't shut your mouth long enough for me to correct the bs you were spewing. You also lied in your documents by writing you gave me a list of other vets... yeah right. Also, your office refused to send me a copy of her results, which I paid for. I love this vet. New to the area and took good care of Lucius of his last couple months. I'm coming back with him when I get new pets. The vet sent me a condolence card and that meant a lot to me. I highly recommend them to anyone. The doctor is bilingual so it made it easier on me to tell my dad of Lucius situation. But today I went back with my new pets for their annual check up and the secretary Monica is never nice at all. I feel like not going back. She gave me attitude when I asked for military discount at check out plus she didn't give me the full military discount that I always get. I'm done with that place because of her. I am obsessed with my dog! That said, upon moving to Lakeside over a year ago, I set out to find a vet. I tried two other area vets and wasn't pleased with the service my dog received. I found Lakeside Veterinary Hospital very welcoming and accommodating! As my dog is a rescue, she has some special needs. Dr. Flores was willing to accommodate us. They have gone above and beyond in caring for my dog! He even researched and referred us to Animal Healing Center in San Diego due to severe arthritis issues! The dogs ended up catching Kennel Cough because I brought my puppy to a dog park while she is small enough for me to handle alone. I didn't know that dogs can still get Kennel Cough even if they have the vaccine, again my mistake for not researching. (I have 4 big dogs) Unfortunately that was my mistake... I brought my biggest dog to the Pet Emergency in La Mesa because he was not doing well at all, that was a huge mistake. My husband and I brought my dog to an appointment on Tuesday to see Dr. Flores, he knew exactly how to handle my big dog and knew exactly what type of dog he was even though he is mixed/hybrid. He complimented my husband on how well trained my dog was. They got along very well. Dr. Flores noted right away that the Pet Emergency made a big error and told me to give my dog 200mg of Doxycycline every two hours and not every 12 hours. We immediately solved that right away, then he treated and checked Peluche, he didn't make us get triple chest xray like Pet Emergency was trying to do, he is now perfect and healed well. I could not recommend a better vet than Dr. Flores. I must note that Dr. Flores is not my normal vet, my regular vet did not have times available and recommended Dr. Flores. read more

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. If I could give this zero stars I would. Or even negative stars. We started coming here a couple years ago when Dr.Flores was there. We LOVED it. Got my mom going there too. After he left and the new doctor took over, everything went to sh*t. The hours were awful. They never returned phone calls. Were randomly closed. But that's not even what this review is about. This review is about the fact I solely blame this place on my moms dogs passing. He was very sick. My mom brought him in multiple times. He wasn't eating. The new vet basically brushed it off. Said nothing was wrong and he was fine if he wasn't eating as well. Well she rushed him to the ER a few days later due to not being able to breathe and he ended up having to be put down. She feels so hard on herself for "not doing more" but she brought him into this vet multiple times and he said "everything was fine." I didn't feel comfortable bringing my babies there anymore after that. And to top it off, when we switched to a new vet, it was nearly impossible to get our old records to bring over to the new vet. This is not my usual vet, and I cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was. I will absolutely be coming back! I used to work at a vet and know the drill. They gave us ALL options with risks, etc.. did not push unneeded test. It was old school, let's treat cautiously and see if it works.. if not THEN consider more expensive surgery options.
