Having just moved out here in Derby over a year ago we've been looking forward to visit visiting Lakeside market and have heard wonderful things about it. We've been there two times already and we were so impressed with the quality of meats, seafood subs and other great products, the market has to offer. However, the reason for my three star review is for something I'm very particular about and that I really value in a business a business can have the most wonderful products in the world, but it's the customer service that really takes it over the top and I'm sad to report. I did not experience the five star service everybody has been reviewing about. I stopped in to the market and bought some Costanzo's rolls and some clams. I saw that the clams were priced 3.49 so I thought that was a wonderful price so I grabbed another when I went to check out I wasn't even greeted by the cashier who was an elderly woman with short gray hair, however she did greet the two gentlemen that were in line in front of me, strike one. When I handed her my rolls she said "oh sure you want those big rolls" as if she were judging me based on my purchase and then when it came to the clams, she rang them up and said wait a minute this isn't right I got to see then she saw the price tag marked 3.49 and then she gave me a side eyed look as if I was the one that put the price tag there? Strike two. And then to top it all off very carefully. She said I had to bag my own groceries myself having experience as a cashier never in my life have I seen a cashier tell the customer to bag their own products that should be the cashier's job and for the stellar service everyone raves about that's the complete opposite strike three. So therefore I love the products there but I have to take away two stars for service. read more

Holy Smokes! We just moved to Derby and were visiting a relative in the area and stopped in last September to grab some snacks for the beach. While there noticed the meat counter/deli and decided to pick up a couple Italian Sausage Subs. WOW! They were awesome and my wife is a tough sell. Now that we know it was there our next visit came quickly this time we went for the subs and grabbed an Assorted and a Meatball. While we waited we decided to shop a little. Some steaks a couple of their sausages some pirogies, sponge candy and other things. Heck we almost filled a cart while waiting for the subs. Now we've tried the Fried Chicken very good, Sausage sub excellent, deli case sausage, beef sticks, Friday fish fry, fried shrimp etc on and on. We're always treated well and given help and recommendations when requested. We absolutely recommend this local gem. read more

Service is awesome! Owner super friendly and hard worker!! Its a small but hidden gem or well kept secret!! The subs are deliciousnees heavenly yummy !! My vegan daughter was impressed ( spoil Californian) the meat its fresh comes from locals as almost all the products that they sell! The make in-house the BEST Fresh Polish sausage! And all the meats are the best! They have customers who paid to get shipped meat products from them! Well if you are looking for fresh yummy taste and subs this is the place! read more

We live a few miles from Lakeside, summers we have their subs at least once a week. They're the best I've ever had. Their sausage is also the very best. Nothing I've found was lacking. Love this store. Friendly help and interesting items for sale. read more

Top of the line sausage. I bought the medium Italian links. Fine grind with enough spice so I will stick to medium instead of my usual hot. I tried the fried chicken. Worst I ever had. Small, dried out pieces. Should have known not to order since I had to wait for the fryer to heat up. Very disappointed. Could tell at a glance it was not good. I will however return for more sausage. read more

"I'm going to Buffalo next week. What should I do/eat when I'm there." Answer: Get a Lakeside sub. That's right. You should literally drive out 30+ minutes from Buffalo to Angola to understand it's beauty. It's a national treasure. I feel terrible for people who live their entire lives eating inferior subs. Sub makers from across the country should stop making subs because they do a disservice to the art form. Life changing. Absolutely life changing. read more

Updating my review for multiple reasons. First, I appreciate when owners read the reviews and reach out to make a better customer experience and do not get defensive and deter you from going back. Second, I happen to defrost the chicken sausage today for dinner and they were amazing!! Also I appreciate the offer to make the sausage fresh and have them available when I plan to come in. Adding a star and will return to hopefully add another one! I had heard about this place but had to wait until I was in the area to be able to check it out. I wanted to try their subs which I heard "are the best ever" but being along the beach I'm not sure at what point during the day we're talking. Also it's a deli so I could get lunch meat but also some meats to grill for the week. I was a little disappointed to find out the homemade sausage I heard so much about was available fresh with pork but chicken I would have to buy frozen . So I bought spinach and feta sausage patties but haven't tried them because 1) I didn't have the patience to wait for them to thaw. By then I wouldn't feel like eating it anymore and 2) I'm not sure how many are in a pack so I didn't want to have to thaw them all. The lunch meat was nothing special.. mostly boars head I can get anywhere if I wanted to pay that much for lunch meat and the kid that cut it wasn't very friendly and also must've taken my request for "very thin" as double the thickness of a regular slice so I haven't eaten it and now will be throwing it out. I got the steak sub and it was good but nothing amazing that I need to make the special trip for. I did like that they had the big bag of frozen chicken fingers that I cannot usually find anywhere else . I will say I added an extra star for the girl working in the store. She was very friendly the whole time I was in the store and for the fact that they were open on a Sunday when most delis are closed. read more

In the area and needed a quick lunch. For service and customer service I would give zero stars as the young girl at the counter was very hard to hear, after I ordered she spent more time talking with the kid in the kitchen window then working. The sandwich was good but about the same as what you can get at 100 other delis, restaurant and pizzerias thru out Western NY. Not more other options in the area unless you wanted hot dogs or Hamburg's. read more

I already knew that their homemade sausages & side salads were second to none, but we just had the fish fry, shrimp and scallop dinners - WOW! SOOOO GOOD! Only during Lent though, and best to call a day ahead as demand is high. read more

I have been shopping at Lakeside Market every summer since I was a wee tot, my family is from Angola and I spent my summers on the lake with my grandparents. My Grandma would make almost daily trips to Lakeside for this or that and every time she walked in she got the traditional WNY greeting of "Hiya Elsie" (or whatever your name is- because they remember you...) Now for the nitty gritty about why you should walk one million miles to go to Lakeside and that reason is SAUSAGE. This handmade, "small batch", family recipe sausage is worth a drive. Cooking it up in my kitchen stirs up aromatic bliss that transcends joy. I have been fortunate to travel all over the world and eat in some of the finest establishments- and never have I had better Polish or Italian Sausage. And now I'm really in trouble because I have started giving this sausage to my friends in LA and now I can't go to Buffalo without having to Sherpa back 30-40 pounds of sausage. It's THAT good. Thank you David and Rosemary for making me smell like garlic for 3000 air miles. Can't wait to see you again this summer! read more
