First of all Lakeshore k9 advertises to large breed dogs; I have a Maso (Cane corso/ mastiff mix) this is a large dog. Lakeshore K9 trained my Maso when he was a puppy for two consistent weeks, my brother, got my maso's twin. The brothers did the training together; which was very effective and both of the brothers learned their commands.
Recently, we had a very unpleasant issue with this facility. One of the brothers had a encounter with two doodles, mind you, our dogs are at least 140 pounds each. He was playing with a little doodle but why not just play with his brother you may ask?
Apparently the brothers get territorial over each other; at times as they tag team on other dogs. Lakeshore K9 put one of the brothers with two doodles, the doodle got defensive over the other doodle. So one of the brothers growled at him; since he didn't like the way he was being treated by these doodles.
So why is okay for my large breed to be separated but not the doodle who the Maso was playing with, which is half his size.
This facility NEEDS to learn that the brothers love to play together. Our masos see each other on a regular basis and KNOW how to play with one another. Plus we had another dog being boarded there who gets along with both twins.
Lakeshore told us that if the brother wants to go back to Lakeshore K9, he will be in SOLE ISOLATION BY HIMSELF. Sole isolation, if he wanted to return back to Lakeshore.
Why not use corrective reenforcement? Fine. They wanted to do isolation, this would be fine if it was a one time thing that the brother faces a punishment if he HURT the dog; but he didn't!!! All he did was growl as the doodle attacked him.
Why weren't the doodles separated since they instigated the fight? How is it that the same facility which trained our dogs don't know how to control this big breeds??? This is unacceptable!
Lakeshore was recommended to us by our vet because they "know" how to manage big breeds. We will be telling our vet that Lakeshore K9 does not know how to control our dog. The same dog which they trained?
The Maso only has an echoing scary growl because of his size! YOU are punishing the brother because he is big. Lakeshore K9 also told us that the twins would receive a birthday picture and a special surprise but of course, since this occurred on his birthday we never received it. Was that their way of punishing them? What other lies are they telling? Why couldn't they learn which dogs the brother gets along with? read more
