**5 Stars - A Truly Exceptional School Community**…read more I honestly wasn't expecting to find such a warm, welcoming, and supportive community when my son started at this elementary school. From day one, it's been clear that the staff truly know and care about each individual student. His teachers--and even administrators who aren't directly in his classroom--have taken the time to understand who he is, what he needs, and how best to help him thrive. What has impressed me most is the genuine partnership we've built with the school. Communication is strong, thoughtful, and centered around helping my child succeed both academically and socially. It's such a relief to know that we're all on the same team, working toward the same goals. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of this school community. It's made a bigger impact on our family than we ever imagined.

Our family has experienced two Montessori schools and two public districts between three boys…read more Dancing Pines is by far the most personal education between them all. The teachers are so mindful of how each child develops, it really does make you stop and think why it doesn't happen this way everywhere. I should also point out that our son is autistic and simply learns and interacts in his own way. The way he learns with the teachers and class mates is so organic that it doesn't even seem like he's being treated differently. And in reality I don't think he is being treated differently, which is exactly how I want my son treated. On top of the great staff, agile curriculum, and hands on learning... it's affordable. I'm sure you can find cheaper if you really look, but you will not find a better early learning experience for the price. Or for that matter, even more expensive options would have a tough time competing with this team. My child is currently 5 years old and autistic. Performing math at a 1st-2nd grade level. Reads at a 2nd-3rd grade level. And as a bonus, knows how to tend goats and chickens. Thank you so much Dancing Pines!

I have been trying to resolve an ongoing noise issue with the nearby daycare in a respectful and…read morereasonable manner, but unfortunately my experience has been disappointing. When I called the main customer service number, I spoke with a very kind representative who assured me that the district manager would contact me to discuss my concerns. Unfortunately, I never received that callback. I also spoke with the school manager directly. In my experience, the conversation was dismissive rather than productive. I explained that the prolonged, high-pitched screaming from a few children echoes throughout the surrounding apartment community and has become a daily disruption for nearby residents. I was told that the children are allowed to scream as a form of self-expression. While I understand the importance of allowing children to express themselves, I believe there should also be reasonable consideration for the people who live nearby and are affected by the constant noise. I work from home several days each week, and the screaming is loud enough to be heard clearly inside my apartment, even with the windows closed. This has become a recurring quality-of-life issue. If this continues without any effort to address it, I will have no choice but to contact the local police non-emergency line to request a welfare check whenever I hear prolonged screaming that reasonably causes concern. When children are screaming continuously at such an extreme volume, it can be difficult for nearby residents to distinguish normal play from a child who may genuinely need help. I sincerely hope the daycare will work with the surrounding community so that this situation can be resolved without further escalation.

Best school ever! My daughter has been attending Discovery since kindergarten after we transferred…read moreher from preschool, and she is now finishing first grade. I can honestly say this school has been one of the biggest blessings for our family. The progress my daughter has made in reading, writing, confidence, and communication has been incredible. What stands out the most to me is how much the school truly focuses not only on the children, but also on the families. Even though there are several students in each classroom, the organization, education, and individual attention given to every child is phenomenal. The teachers and staff genuinely listen to the needs of each student and family, and that level of care is something very special and rare to find. As a mother who previously had a very negative experience with another school with my older child, finding Discovery completely changed my perspective and restored my trust in what a school community should feel like. Unfortunately, when I moved to this area, my older son was already too old to attend this school, and I truly wish he could have experienced the same environment my daughter has had here. One of the things I appreciate most is how they work hard to keep children active and involved, especially for families who may not have the resources for expensive extracurricular activities. The after-school activities, family events, flag football, choir practice, singing activities, and the way they bring families together create such a beautiful sense of community. The parents have gotten to know one another, the children create strong friendships, and the environment feels welcoming and supportive for everyone. My daughter is always happy to go to school, and at the same time, she is already sad knowing that next school year will be her last year here. That alone says so much about the love and connection this school creates for its students. I wanted to be one of the first people to leave a review for Discovery because this school deserves recognition for the amazing work they do every single day. I will always be grateful to the teachers, staff, and administration for everything they have done for my daughter and for the positive impact they have had on our family.

TTM is a pedagogically-observant Montessori school, which will come as a relief to those parents…read morewho believe in the method and seek something more for their kids (and their expense) than a glorified day care. The classes are appropriately sized and more than adequately staffed with Montessori-trained guides & aides, and feature a full complement of beautiful wood, metal, and fabric Montessori-specific works arranged to allow curious minds instant access to meaningful, self-directed learning. The administrative staff is exceptional, led by a 20+ year veteran of both Pacific Crest Montessori & Northwest Montessori School. While transparently placing the student experience first (as they should), this administration takes great pains to accommodate the needs of parents by being respectful of the scant spare time available to most parents, and by reaching out to parents with lots of pertinent information & updates. The building itself is a high-security cruciform arrangement where toddler, primary, and elementary classes are housed in their own wings. It appears to be a former hospice or nursing home, the practical upshot of which is wide hallways and doors, bright sunny rooms, and lots of 'safety' hardware in common areas. The outside play areas are securely fenced (with locking, key-coded gates) and include play structures, gardening, and opportunities to get messy in real dirt in the time-honored tradition. The location is a quarter mile off WA-509 in Burien at 160th Street, just down the street from Highline Medical Center. We make the drive from Capitol Hill every day in 20 minutes. The location is also served by several bus lines from downtown Seattle (#131 & #121 pass 1/8 mi. to the east @ 160th & 1st; #123 1/8 mi. to the west @ 160th & 4th).
