I appreciate the designated pathway for walkers and one for cyclists. Not everyone follows the rules but mostly everyone does. A new coffee shop is also on the pathway with gender neutral bathrooms. Even an attendant making sure folks line up and the bathroom stays clean. Wow. Views are amazing too! Across Elliot Bay. And watching the cruise ships is always fun. Now let me tell you something: if you can't have a good time down here, the problem ain't the waterfront... the problem might be you. This place is part boardwalk, part cobblestone promenade, and part giant outdoor living room for the whole city. People strolling around with ice cream, cameras swinging from their necks, street musicians playing tunes, and ferries sliding in and out like clockwork from Colman Dock. The views alone are enough to stop you mid-stride. Out across Elliott Bay you'll see ferries gliding by, sailboats cutting through the water, and mountains sitting out there like they're posing for a postcard. Along the way you'll run into some of Seattle's greatest hits: the towering Seattle Great Wheel spinning over the docks, the fascinating exhibits inside the Seattle Aquarium, and enough tour boats, food stands, and seafood joints to keep a hungry traveler happy all afternoon. It's the kind of place where you start walking with no plan and suddenly realize you've been wandering for hours. And the place keeps getting better. After the old Alaskan Way Viaduct came down, Seattle started transforming the waterfront into a huge public promenade. Now there are smooth walking paths, scooter lanes, bike routes, and wide open plazas that stretch along the shoreline. Grab something to eat, hop on a scooter, wander the piers, and soak it all in especially if you're lucky enough to land one of those rare sunny Seattle days. When the sky's blue, the ferries are moving, the wheel is spinning, and the bay is sparkling... well, that's about as good as a day in the city gets.

It's pretty thoughtfully designed with playgrounds, bike lanes, thousands of native plantings, public bathrooms, and water fountains. There's a bunch of sculptures too. There are plenty of places to sit down and enjoy the views of the water or to have a small picnic. Be sure to check out the park's website to look at upcoming events - there are food trucks, popups and markets that are held at the park. Apparently there are also sauna socials? Cool concept. Overall, this is a wonderful redevelopment of the area that used to be a busy urban roadway.

There was a cannery here as Bainbridge was home to Marshall Strawberries which were awesome but extremely delicate requiring canning. The plant burned down, most say arson was involved, and the cannery turned to a park.

The park has a lovely grassy area with picnic tables and a nice view of the bay. They area is nicely maintained with fully grown mature trees. Another words, like most places in this area, it's very green. I stayed here for about 20 minutes to relax on my way along the water front trail.

I love that there's a few different little waterfront parks on the west side of Mercer Island. Gives a few different options ... & they all feel pretty private too, which is nice! Seems well kept up enough. Worth a little stop to chill for a second if you're on the island!

Originally the honey and I were hoping to take the trail that cuts off from the 1-90 trail down and…read moreunder the East Portal Viewpoint, however it was cordoned off so we ended up taking in the gorgeous view and going back through the tunnel to Bradner Gardens Park. The view at the East Portal Viewpoint is amazing, especially on a clear day. It's so pretty that when you're on the other side of Lake Washington, you can think back on what it looked like like from so high up. It's almost entirely an easy walk from Sam Smith Park through the large tunnel, though the last 20 feet or so after the tunnel up to the view is up a steep incline, so be prepared. Otherwise this was a fun point in our day, and definitely worth the detour!

We've driven under here for decades but never looked to see what's above. After studying Google…read moremaps, I learned of this viewpoint and decided it's time to search for it. Essentially, you'll be standing above where it says "Seattle - Portal to the Pacific" This spot is not easy to find so definitely GPS your way there. If you drive a stick shift, be aware of some steep streets in the area. It was a cloudy day and the fact this is not a park with resting places, it's not crowded at all. It's kind of nice to stand here and take some pictures. If you want to explore, there's a walk/bike path to get down to I-90 and Lake Washington. The walk/bike path tunnel has some cool art work. Because it's relatively quiet, I'd suggest proceed with caution rather you're on foot or bike. I'm not familiar with the safety in this area. Probably don't come alone at night for your first visit. Anyway, as a local, I think it's a visit at least once worthy scenic stop.

The newest 'Fritz Hedges Waterway Park' really has some of the bleakest landscaping I've seen. In…read moresummer you will simply cook in the sun and the sparse parking lot tree species all look half alive. And the native landscaping is very weedy. I'm not sure why nobody put any thought into providing shade. It seems somebody landscaped it back in 2021 and forgot about anything but cutting the grass. I'm sure they send the folks in with gas powered blowers twice a week but god forbid they actually pluck a weed or water a tree. The grass is great if you're a goose or duck, and it's great for you to poop on, of course. It's a fine place to go swim or launch a boat but staying on shore...well you'd be better off visiting Greenlake.

We loved watching the ducks and enjoying how peaceful the park is. The one star loss is that if you look a little closer you'll notice that the chairs are bolted down and could use a new coat of paint. The park is generally clean, but it appears that they've been doing some weed work on the garden and haven't yet cleaned out the dead plant material. I expected a bit more of Sakuma Viewpoint since wasn't really a viewpoint - it's just a water overlook and you have the same view almost everywhere in the park, but beyond that, we really enjoyed how relaxing the space was. So all in all, if you're in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to drop by.

A couple squares of green along the northern edge of Pike Place Market, this small park recently…read morereopened in March 2025 after some renovations to improve the structural integrity of the park grounds and the underground parking below it. This park provides a little bit of open air respite from the crowds within the market, on July 4th weekend it was pretty packed with loungers, picnickers, tourists taking a break or snapping the waterfront views. Some benches and picnic tables are available. The site of the park is south of what was once the Washington State National Guard Armory built around 1909, was partially destroyed in a 1962 fire, then almost turned into high rise developments and offices during a period when Pike Place Market was proposed to be demolished, but ultimately saved by protests by "Friends of the Market". The city purchased the land on which the armory used to stand and then transferred jurisdiction of a parcel to the parks department, which designated this as "Market Park" in 1982, then renamed in honor of Victor Steinbrueck, an architect, faculty at the University of Washington, and historical preservationist of buildings in Seattle. He was known for his work in helping to design the Space Needle and his advocacy for the restoration and preservation of Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square.

GPS brought me to a neighborhood where there is no entrance to the greenbelt/park. Narrow streets with hills so try following this Yelp's map ;) I parked on the other side and decided to hike up through the narrow trail entrance in the middle of some bushes behind a board with a bit of history of the neighborhood. There are some water storages up the hill. You go around quickly. We crossed the street and went to a beach at the end of two buildings. I don't think dogs can get into the water. And even if they could, there is a lot of algae and driftwood.
