See the many landmarks in the distance. Grain terminal, Space Needle, Seattle Great Wheel, Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, half of Mount Rainier

The Elliot Bay Trail is a long stretch from the Seattle Waterfront to Magnolia. There's a specific bike lane for the portions that I visited (possibly the entire length too but not sure), which we like a lot because I'm on foot and we prefer not to share the walking path with bikes, no offense to anyone. The portion I was on during this visit is northbound from Myrtle Edwards Park, to Centennial Park, before ending at Elliot Bay Park where Expedia is located and doing a u-turn. Expedia also funded some of the restoration and remodeling of this trail. There used to be not much here along this stretch, except perhaps homeless people. Amongst these 3 parks, the Myrtle Edwards Park is the southmost, adjacent to Olympic Sculptures Park, and is the most busy, frequented by tourists and locals alike, especially since many visitors started at Pike Place Market, so most folks tend to look around a bit and turn around. For locals, I suggest walking to Centennial Park to see the rose garden (if there are roses) and enjoying a more peaceful, quieter walk. If you walk past the Grand Terminal and the fishing pier, when you u-turn and walk south again, you'll be treated with views of Space Needle, Seattle Great Wheel, the stadiums, and Mount Rainier in the distance. So worth it!

While on vacation in Seattle, we were taking a stroll in the Queen Anne neighborhood and started walking west towards where the waterfront should be. At first, it wasn't easy to find where the access of the waterfront was. That is until we reached an overpass walkway that we saw a few others walking, jogging, biking, or hovering on. Knowing that this would lead to somewhere closer we follow that direction, but had no idea how beautiful this park would be! I might also be partial because we were in Seattle during one of the most beautiful times of the year which made it all the more special. There were many people picnicking, jogging, biking, hovering, walking their dogs, etc. It was a beautiful scene. During this moment, it was the evening time and the sun was at the perfect position in the sky right over the sound. This park is very walkable all the way to downtown Seattle if you're ambitious enough. We almost did from Queen Anne neighborhood. Totally worth it!

Keep following the trail and eventually you will pass Olympic Sculpture Park and then make your way to the pier.

It keeps people away from the tunnel traffic along that road. It's still a work in progress with many developments planned in the future. There's still a lot of construction near Belltown as of June 2025. We stayed in a hotel near the park. It's super close to Pier 66. The park currently connects Pioneer Square with Pier 62, and has great views of Elliott Bay. We took the elevator up to the Overlook Walk so that we could gain access to Pike Place Market. There are also stairs that take you there from each side of the walkway. I don't remember it being this easy back in 2011. Heck, I don't even remember seeing the ferris wheel at Pier 57. When did that happen? It's a large and beautiful greenspace that's perfect for locals & tourists alike. We kind of lost our bearings for a bit, but then it became all clear that we were headed the right way to the market. I really like what they have done here. It will be cool to see it again once it's all done, and there's no more construction. It was a nice walk along the bay.

There are few groups that after you volunteer with, you instantly see the results of your labor. I'd like to take a moment to write about my experience as a volunteer. Since the first "work party" with WTA, I have fallen in love again with nature. I am smitten with the trees, wildlife, and the sound of the forest. Every volunteer event is another chance to reconnect with mother earth. You would be amiss if you never visited a state or county park, never mind renovating or building a trail for others to also experience. So what's the experience so special? I would go out on a limb, and say that from the moment that you step foot into your first event; people who genuinely care about giving back instantly surround you. Conversations are struck, and you are in a family, you are accepted, no matter whom you are. Sign in; helmet on, safety lesson, and the team is on their way. The number one rule is to be safe. Second rule is to have fun. Third rule is to get work done. I remember being nervous about hiking a trail carrying a shovel and pick, not really sure where and what I was doing. That quickly passes, as Assistant Crew Leaders help guide you forward; you probably know more about what you are doing, than you think. Common sense rules, before you know, you have improved on a section of trail. You have literally moved earth. I have met some of the most awesome people out on the trail, working with them, and forming friendships and respect for hard work. Along the way, hikers pass through, sometimes thanking you, but always appreciative of the work done. It's 8 hours of commitment, and they expect you to be there. You take breaks when you need to, and you work at your own speed. You can make it a casual weekend, or make it into an intense workout. I encourage anyone to volunteer with WTA. It's fulfilling and without question, one of the best experiences when it comes to giving back.
