The view at the East Portal Viewpoint is amazing, especially on a clear day. It's so pretty that when you're on the other side of Lake Washington, you can think back on what it looked like like from so high up. It's almost entirely an easy walk from Sam Smith Park through the large tunnel, though the last 20 feet or so after the tunnel up to the view is up a steep incline, so be prepared. Otherwise this was a fun point in our day, and definitely worth the detour!

Essentially, you'll be standing above where it says "Seattle - Portal to the Pacific" This spot is not easy to find so definitely GPS your way there. If you drive a stick shift, be aware of some steep streets in the area. It was a cloudy day and the fact this is not a park with resting places, it's not crowded at all. It's kind of nice to stand here and take some pictures. If you want to explore, there's a walk/bike path to get down to I-90 and Lake Washington. The walk/bike path tunnel has some cool art work. Because it's relatively quiet, I'd suggest proceed with caution rather you're on foot or bike. I'm not familiar with the safety in this area. Probably don't come alone at night for your first visit. Anyway, as a local, I think it's a visit at least once worthy scenic stop.

If I look at Google map magnified, the skinny green space is named Lake Washington Blvd Park while the green dotted and solid line is named Lake Washington Blvd Trail. The map/address that is identified in Yelp is roughly where Mount Baker Beach is located. For the summer, most of Lake Washington Blvd is closed to cars, so plan to park on the side streets to get to Lk WA Blvd itself. I've been visiting and walking along parts of this trail for several weekends now. It's very nice to hear the sounds of water as I walk. There are several restrooms available along this walk. The one thing that is missing is water. No water fountains, no shops, etc. The air felt particularly dry today, and we turned around sooner than planned because we didn't bring water. Bummer! The lower trail that is closest to the water is starting to have weeds grow into it too. May need to take the higher ground trail soon. Wear a hat - parts of it is shaded, parts not. Folks come for picnics, swimming, fishing off the piers, and there are multiple small entry points for kayaks. Look in the sky for bald eagles; we spotted one today and it even landed by the Stan Sayres Memorial Park. We were just there!! Speaking of which, near the Stan Sayres Memorial Park, there is a giant lily pad, at least one turtle, and duck families. Have fun nature walking!

That's the moorage itself. Don't expect to pack a picnic with a view of the water. That doesn't mean Leschi Park is anything to sneeze at. It's sizable with a portion that is well manicured and good for a picnic. There are several benches in this area and some portions are shady. When we went, the rose hedges were blooming and quite pretty. There's also a sequoia that was dedicated to the head gardener from 65 years ago. There are a few tennis courts too. The parts that I like more are the trails that have a forest vibe. Leschi Park is adjacent to Frink Park; together, they form a very large area to explore. I didn't find much signs or maps so I just used Google maps to choose walking paths. Cell signal was solid inside both parks. On a hot day, these two tree filled parks provide lots of shade; they would be an excellent place to visit.

Leschi Park is small, and most who visit are here for the views, as it's off of Lake Washington, so you can see the eastside and I-90. There's a small covered seating area and a dock for boaters. It's cool that there are a few restaurants and businesses nearby, as well as a parking lot. It's walking distance to the residential area and the Madrona neighborhood. If you're looking to access the water, I would recommend the short walk up north along the trail to Madrona Beach Park, which is larger and is more popular. However, Leschi Park is here for when you want more of a private, quiet scene, just for the views. Not a bad spot at all.

I'm gonna be honest. I thought Waterfront Park was the entire stretch along the waterfront. Welp,…read moreI was wrong. The park stretches from Pier 57 to Pier 59. You would think that there was more to this spot, but that is it. Basically two blocks, but those two blocks pack a lot into them. I had no idea that the original Pier 58 was a prominent pier in the city. Schwabacher Wharf was where trade with Japan started, and also where the ships from the Klondike showed up. I will say, taking in sunset here is a must. You will get some of the most beautiful shots over the water. It an be a peaceful place. Even though there are a ton of people here, you can still have a private moment.

Now let me tell you something: if you can't have a good time down here, the problem ain't the waterfront... the problem might be you. This place is part boardwalk, part cobblestone promenade, and part giant outdoor living room for the whole city. People strolling around with ice cream, cameras swinging from their necks, street musicians playing tunes, and ferries sliding in and out like clockwork from Colman Dock. The views alone are enough to stop you mid-stride. Out across Elliott Bay you'll see ferries gliding by, sailboats cutting through the water, and mountains sitting out there like they're posing for a postcard. Along the way you'll run into some of Seattle's greatest hits: the towering Seattle Great Wheel spinning over the docks, the fascinating exhibits inside the Seattle Aquarium, and enough tour boats, food stands, and seafood joints to keep a hungry traveler happy all afternoon. It's the kind of place where you start walking with no plan and suddenly realize you've been wandering for hours. And the place keeps getting better. After the old Alaskan Way Viaduct came down, Seattle started transforming the waterfront into a huge public promenade. Now there are smooth walking paths, scooter lanes, bike routes, and wide open plazas that stretch along the shoreline. Grab something to eat, hop on a scooter, wander the piers, and soak it all in especially if you're lucky enough to land one of those rare sunny Seattle days. When the sky's blue, the ferries are moving, the wheel is spinning, and the bay is sparkling... well, that's about as good as a day in the city gets.
