This is the fish camp to go to for really good flounder. The pieces are nice and thick and battered just right. Cooked to perfection and not oily at all. The servings are generous. The iced tea is fresh, and the servers keep your cup filled. The atmosphere is just what you want if you are fan of the old-time fish camps we used to have around here. It reminds me a lot of Laney's Fish Camp that used to be in Mooresville. I put the food on par with what you would get at Calabash. I'm visiting family in Concord and was hoping to find a celiac-friendly restaurant-found this one on the Find Me Gluten Free app with a 100% celiac safe rating, according to one reviewer, a relative of the owner has celiac disease so they understand it well. I read that they had hush puppies and just had to try it-gluten free Southern food is so hard to come by! It's down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere and there's a big sign that says cash only when you walk in-a little intimating at first! But once we were seated and met the server she was so sweet and so was everyone seated around us. I asked about their gluten free procedures and she said they make everything separately, which was music to my ears. I ordered fried pickles, a small catfish filet and hush puppies. They took a while to make the food, which to me was a super good sign they were being careful not to cross contaminate my food with gluten. When it came out in could hardly believe my eyes! Real, golden-brown fried food! The only way I knew it was gf was because they brought mine out separately and my hush puppies looked different than my cousin's, who ordered regular ones. The taste---y'all, I was transported back to all my wonderful childhood memories visiting my family in the South and getting that delicious cooking I couldn't find anywhere else. It helped that the restaurant is so cute with lots of vintage decor and the staff was friendly as could be. Truly reminiscent of a simpler time and the food was just out-of-this-world. We went to Lake Todd Fish Camp to eat here for the first time this weekend. Celiac friendly. Waitress says they have a family member with celiac and everything gluten free has its own dedicated space and the owner's and staff are very aware of it. Everyone was so friendly and sweet. Top notch customer service for celiac knowledge, menu options, a cozy little restaurant that takes you back to a simpler time. Located at the end of a gravel road with beautiful scenery. It is a cash only place. Tea has unlimited refills and soda is in a can charge per can. I am celiac and didn't get sick from my meal. **This place is cash only** Today I ventured into rural Cabarrus to try out a location that I have heard about for years but never tried. I admit that I felt a little unsure about the place as we turned into the driveway. The restaurant is small and rustic. It's a throwback to the 60s and 70s. I am so glad we went in and gave it a chance. Below the cash register the sanitation grade was displayed. They currently hold a 96! That is good for an older building. The dining area was dated but very clean. I felt a sense of nostalgia by eating there. I enjoyed the atmosphere. The waitress brought us a menu that was a notebook. The first two pages of the menu was the food and drink items. The last three pages detailed the history of the business. They even offer gluten free menu items. I decided on the fried flounder with a side of okra and macaroni salad and hush puppies. My wife got the Calabash shrimp with white slaw and onion rings. We were both very happy with what we ordered. My flounder was thick white meat cooked perfectly. The wait staff was very attentive. They looked out each other's tables. We were well taken care of. I can't wait to visit this little gem again! You drive down a long gravel driveway into the middle of the woods to a rustic cabin "aka fish camp" locale. The menu is made up of southern home style yummy food like fried flounder, shrimp, deviled crabs, hush puppies, "red" slaw, collards, etc. They serve large portions for reasonable prices with friendly locals as your servers. I wanted some good fish last Friday, 9/25/2019. I asked a very close relative, whom lived in the Iredell Cabarrus area, she said Lake Todd food is good, off Hwy 3, but She stated she didn't feel comfortable dining in there, she didn't explain why, so myself and husband drove from Charlotte to check it out. I wanted to dine in, so my food would be fresh and hot, When we arrived we wasn't greeted properly, maybe they didn't know any better, but that was our first time at their restaurant.I am A very bold liberal person, in which, I feel every race creed and color should be treated equally. I didn't feel that in the atmosphere at all, when myself and husband sat down, of course we had to find our own seats, in which is ok, but it seem like everyone in there, even the youths act if they had seen someone from out of space. Very unfriendly atmosphere, to the point we had to get up and leave, without ordering. I am from this area grew up and was raise in this area and lived in this area until I got Married, I have a lot to say, but this isn't the platform to voice it on, but if you don't want to welcome or eat with any other race other than the white race, you should have a sign that says for whites only. I grew up when it was signs like that in Iredell, Cabarrus, Catawba, Rowan, Lincolnton, and Union counties, there are plenty others, but these are the counties where I visit or lived at. As A young lady I fought hard behind the scenes to make it a better place to lived and work in that area for all race, til the point my father stated I had to leave town , because they had Labeled as a Black Militant, and it wasn't safe for me to live there , being a young country girl , I asked him what did that meant, and he explained it to me. I couldn't tell no one what he shared with me , so at 17 years of age I moved to Charlotte to live with an Aunt until he told me it was ok to come back. When I went to that Fish Camp it took me back to the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s . Old fashioned fish camp with good food, a little out of the way but we drive 15 miles to get here every couple of weeks

One of the last old times fish camps left in our area. It was traditional to go to the fish camp on the weekend growing up. The food is good, prices are good. If you like old time fish camps, this place is for you. Down a gravel drive, inside a cinder block building, you'll find some of the best seafood at prices you won't believe! You'll have to eat off plastic plates and drink from Styrofoam cups, but I went for the food, not the atmosphere. Eating at Lake Todd Fish Camp reminded me of a place that we along with our family's best friends. We used to eat at Hide Away Fish Camp on Monroe Road back in the 70's. Lake Todd's reminds a lot of Hide Away. Lake Todd's is at the top of my list right now. My husband and I found this place about 3 months ago and we go every week. They are CASH ONLY and are open THURSDAY, FRIDAY and SATURDAY ONLY. I think their seafood platter is $13.95, considering in Mooresville at the fish place there I bet their seafood platter is probable $20 or more. My husband and I will definately be going back to eat at Lake Todd. Dave's favorite Fried Flounder, popcorn shrimp and clam strips with red slaw and for $9.95, I usually get the Flounder, shrimp and oysters. I would recommend this fish place to anyone who loved places like Riverview Inn that served the Belmont and Charlotte area for so many years. read more
