Towel City Tavern has two floors and is connected to the baseball stadium. Only the first floor was open during my visit. The Cabarrus Brewing Co. serving tanks are what you see as you enter. If you order a beer, it will be fresh as it comes directly from the tanks, as it is brewed on site. The restaurant's name pays homage to the city's textile roots and the towels made at the mills. The restaurant design also incorporated the town's history with Cannon Mills. The restaurant has an industrial feel with the open kitchen, high ceilings, concrete floors, exposed brickwork and steel structures. The tables were crafted from a 160-year-old tree that fell on the mill property. There were garage doors that likely opened during the games. They offer a $10 lunch special that includes a drink, side and entree. The $10 menu had a lot to select from: sandwiches, wraps, salads, wings, and a burger. I went with the All-American burger and fries. My burger was a good size, cooked to order and tasted great. The fries were really good, too. Service was great and attentive too. I was even offered a tea to go. My waiter got me in and out of the restaurant fast so I could get to the Music Hall of Fame on time. I did stop at the mural again on my way back to the car. Parking was free in the street spots and no time limits. Although I am not sure about the rules on game days/nights. With my favorite mural on the building, I have a feeling I will be back again to try more menu items and maybe see a ballgame too.

Journeymen's is either a rebranding or under new management from a previous 2.5 star restaurant…read more It's a perfect neighborhood hangout with a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere and full bar. We arrived right at opening, 3pm so the place was empty. We were immediately greeted by Ashton and seated at the bar. Ashton was on point with every aspect of the visit. Drinks never went empty, check ins were perfectly frequent and efficient. We ordered the onion rings as a starter, they were big and coked perfectly. Next came the mushroom Swiss burger cooked medium rare. The burger was perfectly cooked and one of the best I've had (honestly). The cheese steak was delicious and was recommended by Ashton. We totally enjoyed the experience. Feedback for the owner would be... 1.add some seasoning to the fries and onion rings. 2. Drain some of the grease from the cheese steak.

Pleasant staff, a good beer selection, and awesome food!…read more Really loved our fried pickles (just the right amount for two people), and my circuit breaker burger was oh-so tasty! I mean really, who even gets that excited over a burger right? It was truly terrific! My better half got the Philly cheesesteak and wouldn't stop stuffing it down enough to comment, which means he liked it so much he was speechless...and that's unusual. If you find yourself traveling I-85 and you're looking for a good (non-greasy) bar and grill you won't regret stopping here - we don't! Oh, and say hi to the world's okay-est bartender Gaby - she's a real sweetheart!

We decided on the their appetizer sampler just to get a feel for their food, and it wasn't a great feel. The wings were burnt, Maybe that's their "style" but it didn't work. They were so dry. The shrooms had too much breading and were also overcooked, thought at least not burnt. The mozzarella sticks were actually decent. The pretzels was good, but some awful beer cheese. I had two of their IPA's and I did enjoy those. Unfortunately not someplace I'd go back to unless someone assured me it was better

Indeed, if the cold North runs through you veins, you'll find house beer and mead aplenty to wet your whistle in an atmosphere that while housed in a modern shopping center, is still somehow appropos. Unfortunately, I had driving to do, so alcohol wasn't in the cards, but the menu appealed to us. We needed some comfort food, so we ended up with an appetizer sampler that included a baked pretzel, jalapeno poppers (instead of the fried ravioli that I guess they were out of), buffalo wings, and mozz sticks. We also got a pizza from the current specials, the spicy hawaiin. We like pineapple on pizza, and definitely prefer pepperoni to ham, and this also included jalapenos... so it sounded right up our alley. FYI, there are no waiters, you simply order at the bar, and they give you a numbered buzzer to pick up your food when ready. I greatly prefer this way of doing things honestly. For the food, honestly... a mixed bag, hence the one star off. The pretzel was great, probably the best of the bunch. Jalapeno poppers were nice and large, good flavor balance of cream cheese and jalapeno. Mozz sticks were mozz sticks. We didn't care for the wings. For one, they weren't tossed in the buffalo sauce, it was just poured over the top, and they also were a tad dry... maybe fried too long. The pizza was a letdown, especially since other reviews were so complimentary of it. The slices were very floppy, it maybe could have used a couple minutes more. The cheese had a nice flavor, but the sauce was not either of our preference. Could have used more pineapple, less jalapeno to balance the bites. Overall, we didn't finish it, and didn't take the leftovers for later. It could just be our personal tastes, so go and decide for yourself. Outside of food, it was trivia night, and people were having a great time. We would have taken part if we were staying longer. I think if I lived in the area, I would still come here, and just figure out what food items are the ones to get and which ones aren't. Great atmosphere, friendly bartender and people.
