Chris, the owner, met with us and thoroughly discussed what we wanted and how he worked, giving us realistic ideas of what to expect and a very reasonable quote compared with others we'd obtained. We told Chris about our previous nightmare experiences with contractors, and he was very reassuring about his company and workers. Six weeks later, work began. It took two weeks from start to finish, which included taking a 6-foot fireplace monstrosity down, building the joist (the bones or framework) for the deck, laying the decking meticulously including the "picture frame" , building two stair sets and installing them, and then completing the railing. Chris' design for our deck was beautiful, and he made suggestions along the way for us, completely explaining everything. His work crew, Spencer and Sam, were diligent, meticulous, polite and clean. They were easy to have working on our back deck right outside the windows. They also redid some poor construction done on the original decking that left the deck unlevel, restoring it to building code standards. We could not be happier!!! The design, the workmanship, the communication, and the final product. A 16" x 36" deck, is everything we hoped for. Our next-door neighbors liked the deck so much they hired him to expand their deck. I really can't recommend this company highly enough! I completed…read moreand submitted their required form, and sent an e-mail asking how I could pay my deposit and when we could get scheduled. I never heard back. I e-mailed them a week later and they acknowledged they lost track of my form. (However, because of that, they were willing to fast track my project, so that was nice.) They later called me asking what dimensions the window needed to be, how far off the ground it needed to be, and how wide the window well needed to be. This seemed odd to me, being that they are in fact that design engineer. They told me this is something that would need to come from my contractor. When I talked to my contractor (who's been great), he said this is information that always comes from the engineer and while he's familiar with some of the general requirements, it's the design engineer that knows all the specs. I called Chris at SDA back and told him my contractor and interior designer were more comfortable with relying on the engineer's knowledge of local permitting requirements. Chris interrupted me mid-sentence and said "Ok well I can't help you then" and hung up on me. How an engineer isn't familiar with basic, local permitting requirements is beyond me and is quite scary. They even took care of a dead raccoon for us (story for another day haha). Kitchen - they remodeled our entire kitchen in 2.5 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, allowing us to host our family in a brand new space. Scott and his team do design work and ordering, but we opted to get our design and cabinets through Lowes bc we wanted to take advantage of a sale. Scott and Tyler then took all the design mocks and materials and implemented them in our home and customized things along the way (backsplash, waterfall counter, moulding, lighting, etc.). They did it with so much care and attention to detail and took feedback every step of the way. Never was it challenging to talk through options or make corrections. He truly just wants to give you something you'll love. And again, they left our place clean and liveable every single night for those 2.5 weeks. Before moving in, I found construction defects, damage to personal property, they completely missed items on the scope causing breach of contact, had to replace plumbing fixtures but never submitted a change order, and dozens more. I don't think the insurance company is aware they've been charged for items Mcleod SKIPPED or multiple items added (ex: the scope says to paint window trim in the Entry but there is no window trim). After moving in I discovered multiple fire hazards, plumbing issues, handles were uneven or partially unscrewed, dirt and debris in the new cabinets and drawers, equipment left behind, and so much more. Because of the safety hazards and multiple construction issues- I filed a complaint with L&I and contacted the city permitting office. They are receiving a violation from L&I for doing electrical without a permit and for not obtaining a building permit. They did not apply for a permit until Aug 2025- TWO months AFTER we moved back in. IT'S BEEN OVER 365 DAYS SINCE REPAIRS STARTED AND THE PERMIT IS STILL NOT APPROVED!

We asked Robert to come estimate on the filling of these two holes as well as to fix the newly broken downspout drainage pipe (the original company also burst the main water pipe). Also asked him about some asphalt areas that were affected by tree roots. Hired him to do all of it. They did a great job filling, removing, and paving. Everything was also completed before deadline and any debris was cleaned up. In the future, my plan is to hire him to seal my asphalt. His price is very competitive also. And scheduling was easy. He responds immediately when you contact him, and most importantly I find he is a honest businessman.
