Lone Star Lodge and Marina - Trail views from the lodge

Lone Star Lodge and Marina

I first came to this location several years ago when it was named Lantana under the previous…read moremanagement. The area is gorgeous with many trees, a beautiful lake, a large fire pit, and a lighted gazebo that looks amazing against the sunset. The rooms under Lantana were pretty outdated at the time, however, this new management has upgraded the rooms and made them beautifully rustic. We stayed in a double bed room and we had a small refrigerator, microwave, free WiFi (which was surprisingly decent) and DirectTV with premium movie channels. You can get a bucket of ice from the lobby, but you will have to get it before it closes at 5PM. You can check in after 5PM by accessing a coded lock. The small town of Pilot Point is within driving distance which has several restaurants and a couple of stores to buy groceries. If you're looking to get away from the bustle and spend quiet time in a beautiful natural environment, this is the place to go. Not many people know about this jewel of a place that rents its room out for only $95 a night. You can't beat that price.

The facility is beautiful and spread out. It looks very classy, Jennifer gave us a nice tour of the…read moreparty areas and the back view of the lake and gazebo. Love the statues hidden around and they have nice rooms so it would be convenient for a family reunion or wedding...or just to stay in luxury for a weekend. Updated 8/6/12: I've…read morehad friends at Lakeview for many years and just recently started slipping my boat at this marina. It is one of the older marinas on the lake but the family who owns it is very nice. You can walk-in, call, or email and get a response back in a reasonable amount of time. The marina is on the West shore of the lake just north of what is known as Party Cove which makes it a popular place for party boaters to put their boats. Slips fees are reasonable when compared to some of the other offerings on the lake as some are higher and some are a little lower. In terms of amenities Lakeview has all the basics covered. The slips have water and metered electric. Trailer storage is available for slip customers for an extra fee. Each dock has a locking door with a key code that changes periodically for security. There is plenty of parking next to each boat house which makes it a short trip when loading up your boat for an outing on the lake. The main office also has a small ship store that has all the basics (fenders, lines, oil, etc) available at a very reasonable price. The fuel dock is full service and offers several grades of fuel. They also have a DIY pump-out station and an assortment of cold drinks available. Note/tip: Take cash or a credit card if your boat takes a lot of fuel. My debit card won't work on this dock when I make large fuel purchases.

I really wanted to like it. It is dated and not clean. We stayed in the angler. The bed in room…read morewith the queen bed is not comfortable and the frames squeaks with any movement. The toilet seat in the master slides to one side every single time. The window AC is loud but I'm grateful it's there! We chose the self clean option and the reservation email said instructions were in the cabin. They are nowhere to be found. The coffee pot has burned coffee from a prior guest on the bottom and looked dirty. Kitchen utensils are bare minimum. Not even a toaster. Note to self... bring paper plates and plastic utensils! The toilet in the laundry room flushes very slowly. The full size bed in the secondary bedroom was the most comfortable but still not a great mattress. When we got here all of the cabins had spiderwebs and cobwebs. I would have expected the decks to be swept or hosed down but the chairs, tables and grills were all dirty. (don't forget charcoal!) The staff is friendly and the French fries and onion rings in the restaurant were pretty good. The rest of the food mediocre but we were grateful it was there as I didn't want to use any of the kitchen supplies after seeing the bugs and cobwebs. I think I just expected too much. Had I know that it was VERY rustic, dated and brought my own cooked food and cleaning supplies I may give the third star. Maybe I'm just too bugie. ‍

The other reviews are unfortunately still accurate. Website pictures must be from 10 years ago…read more We were in the Lonestar cabin. It was disgusting how dirty it was. Dishes in the cupboard were dirty. Trash can was full. Windows were dirty and full of spider webs. It was sad because it could be so nice if they would do some maintenance, painting and cleaning

So far, we think that this is the most popular launch spot on the lake. We haven't covered the…read morewhole lake yet but, so far, that is the way it looks. It cost $5 cash to launch here. They have year round passes but they aren't economical for the summer boater. The ramp is very, very good and can handle up to four launches at a time though most often people are more comfortable with three at a time. Launching here is an art form. Except for the occasional idiot or jerk, people launch and trailer here with amazing speed and efficiency. I have only once seen one guy (with a boat that cost more than my house) take up a spot for 45 minutes because it wouldn't start. So it does happen. But this is not a place to practice launching. Know what you are doing and "get er done". This place is always hopping. Usually there is plenty of trailer parking but sometimes, like holidays, you may end up parking your trailer on the grass. If you are in a car, please do not take up a trailer space with your subcompact. Arghhh! That is soooo frustrating. The only down side to launching at Highport is there is an extremely long no-wake zone getting out of the marina and the gas dock bites compared to Buncombe's. Still, there's lots of neat things to see as you make it through the no-wake zone. People have "done up" their slips with bars and kitchens and artwork. I am in awe of the huge boats moored here. As for gassing up, it is a self serve pump and you have to pay first and then fight other boaters for the hose. Well, you have to sit and stew when some other boater jumps in front of you even though it was obvious that you were next up. Also, we like to go out on a wave runner and Highport only has a platform for jet skis with two spaces and, on a busy weekend, will take up the spaces with rental jet skis. I highly recommend launching here and popping over to Buncombe marina to gas up.
