Mr. Grose is a true professional.

Dove here this past Labor Day weekend and had a few issues. First of all, at first entry to the shop, the lady at the counter came off as abrasive throughout our entire transaction. Trips between dives to refill your air are extremely inconvenient. The employees reference the policy video whenever any issue is brought up seemingly to avoid any confrontation. After leaving the campsite for an hour, I came back and the gate would not open. So I parked my car outside the lake area and proceeded to find an employee to ask how I can get my car through. No help was offered so I asked to speak to the manager Robert Grose. Robert Grose was also not any help and immediately started speaking to me condescendingly after I explained the situation to him. His employee told me there was "nothing they could do, it is what it is" after commenting on the lack of customer service skills, Grose then said "guess y'all won't be coming back". Well, he's right about that. I decided to leave that night actually, and because the shop was closed, could not get my ID. I called the shop dozens of times and never got an answer, emailed them and never received an answer. Finally, decided to Facebook message them and was met with the very thoughtful response, which is attached.

I love this quarry. The staff are like family, the location is relaxing, the water is beautiful. Several camping sites, RV sites(30 and 50amp), and 1 cabin. It will forever be my home away from home! I can't wait to move back to the area!

*in my best movie voice* From the ashes of Lake Rawlings, comes... Lake Phoenix! Dun, dun, duuuuuh! So, new ownership, still the same great lake, but with some improvements. I'm going to start out with what's change from it's previous form. First, the guys at the front desk were far more cordial than previous ownership and working in this century as far as technology was concerned. Online waivers that you fill out before you get there are fantastic. Square terminals for payment made things smooth. They took out the coin boxes on the showers, which is a classy move. I've always said I'd rather they just charge us a little more to get in, than to make us pay for showers. Additionally, they've added a bunch of new leader lines under water. This is super handy especially when diving to see the plane; there are two booeys and if you dive the wrong one you'll end up at a small boat. Also, there is now a submerged phone by the BlackHawk, it was comical to see it there. As far as what's the same, and could use a little improvement. I would honestly pay for a lake side bottle exchange service. It's a LONG walk back to get your bottle refilled and really cuts into your dive times. It would also be nice if they made a plastic dive map, with distances, compass directions, etc... of the lake bottom. This would make underwater navigation so much easier. The fish are plentiful near the dock and training pads and still love them some Vienna Sausages, which you can buy cans of for $1.50 at the main shop, totally recommend. I'm so excited that Phoenix is still here. It's just a fun place to hang-out!

So this was my first time at a quarry and I didn't know what to expect but this place is quite amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a cafe on site which is a huge bonus if you are a scuba diver or camper. For scuba divers, check in was super easy and organized. If you are planning a trip, I would suggest filling out their waivers before you arrive...it just saves time. They are a fully equipped dive shop, so if you forget something or need to rent equipment they will most likely have what you need. There are showers and bathrooms on the premises which is really nice and convenient. The actual quarry is pretty cool, the water is cold so I highly recommend a 7mm wetsuit. Each group has a their own pavilion and the pavilions are nice and shaded which kept the area cooler and is great when you have full gear on! The benches have bungy cords to hook your tank up while away. The water is very clear which is great because this was my first time scuba diving outside of a pool environment. There are cool things to look at under the water like fish and random everyday items. I would definitely recommend this place to someone or a group who is interested in diving!

I was certified as a Basic Scuba Diver in 1978 (more about this later). After 30+ years, I decided…read moreto renew my interest in scuba diving on a vacation to Antigua. I took the resort's refresher course and felt pretty good about my skills. On the first open water dive, I had difficulty descending below 30 feet. The dive instructor sent me back to the boat. As soon as I returned from Antigua, I discovered that PADI revised the requirements for certification in 1987 without notifying me of the change. I searched online for dive instructors in the Raleigh, NC area. I contacted another dive shop as well as Kevin about my needs. Only Kevin returned my call/email. Kevin's online reviews all seemed very good so I called him and left a brief message explaining that I wanted to upgrade my Basic diver certification to an Open Water certification (which is what I thought I had originally). Kevin was down in Cozumel on a dive trip (which I strongly suggest) but called me back within a day or two. We discussed my situation and he suggested a "hybrid" approach consisting of the areas that PADI had added to my original training that I could do along with a group course he had starting the following month. (He was scheduled to teach one "diver" to swim before teaching scuba - that's how accommodating he is). The group cancelled so I basically had individual lessons, customized just for me, at no additional cost. In- pool activities were at a local Raleigh pool with "open water" dives at Fantasy Lake, which is a great place to dive. Because of Kevin's understanding and flexibility, I essentially took the whole open water course and was re-certified as Open Water Diver within one month. I strongly recommend Kevin Alexander for scuba instruction for all levels of divers. I have since completed the Advanced Open Water course while on a dive trip with Kevin to Cozumel.

The obstacle course is really fun for both kids and adults. The slides were my favorite part. They also have scuba diving on the end side of the lake. At one point, a blonde female staff member approached my girlfriend in a very confrontational manner while we were simply saying goodbye to family members on the dock without wearing life jackets. We understood the life-jacket policy, but the way the situation was handled was disrespectful and could have been communicated much more professionally. Later, as we were leaving, we initially walked up one side of the ramp. We had already washed the sand off our feet and changed, so we did not want to walk back through the sand, get dirty again, and have to wait in line to rinse off a second time. We walked back down so we could leave through the other side. A young blonde male staff member stopped us simply to tell us that we could not be on the dock without life jackets, and his tone was extremely rude. I explained that we were aware of the rules and were only trying to leave through the other side because we had already cleaned the sand off and did not want to go back through the rinse line. Instead of simply acknowledging that and allowing us to leave, he continued to speak to me and my family in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner. What made the situation even more frustrating was that two older women were standing at the end of the same dock without life jackets, and neither staff member addressed them. That inconsistency made us feel singled out and raised concerns about whether the rules were being enforced equally for all guests. This business needs to take a serious look at its staffing and customer-service expectations. Some employees appeared to lack the communication skills necessary to interact appropriately with customers. We also encountered staff members who were not welcoming upon arrival, appeared disengaged in their responsibilities, and created the impression that certain guests or demographics were being treated differently than others. I am not normally someone who leaves negative reviews for businesses, but this was one of the most disappointing staff experiences I have encountered. Families should be able to visit, follow the rules, and still be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Based on our experience, I would not recommend bringing my family back.

I approved all of the repairs and knew ahead of time the cost ($4,400). That was a "tough pill to swallow". We got the boat back in September but due to an injury and surgery the boat was covered and parked in a barn until this year. A second surgery prolonged our launch for this season. When we launched the boat, within a few minutes the over heating alarm sounded. When I contacted Water World I spoke with Connor (new service department manager). He asked me to bring the boat in and he listened to my story/concern/complaint about the alarm still sounding even after the large repair bill. He was calm, understanding and asked me to give him/crew a chance to look at the boat. He was up front and said it would be 1-2 weeks. About 12 days later he contacted me and said that they had found the problem, fixed the problem and did not charge me for the repair. When I picked up the boat he explained that he was not with the company last year when I brought the boat in and based on my recollection of the issue he felt that the necessary repair last summer was an oversight and that it was the right choice not to charge me for this repair.
