From the first phone call with Gregg Scofield I knew I was in good hands. 1989 Ranger 363v with a Johnson GT150 motor. Gregg went thru my motor repairing everything that needed to be repaired. He also did great work on a few items on the boat. After all of the repairs, he was able to take the boat out for a test run at Falls Lake. This is a Great feature. I copied the email I pasted below that I received from Water World from my complaint of 6 MONTHS ago. Response from the owner a day ago I have made multiple attempts to contact Mr. Bodros spending hours writing emails and requesting a phone discussion. We believe understanding each others perspective should be the first response to complaints. Unfortunately, he has refused to engage. Therefore, after much effort and disappointment, I am forced to compose this rebuttal. First, his price comparison was inaccurate. He was comparing a local dealer to an unverified, unseen website listing 12 hours away. There were multiple differences easily identified. We called the other dealer to verify and there were still many other ambiguous details. When he continued to push our salesman, he was invited to drive there and see for himself which apparently offended him. However, his real anger was likely a reaction to our response to his trade request. He was given two carefully written documents explaining those variables but, without response, we don't know if he ever read them. In short, a trade value is not a comparable absolute number. If the dealer has a large negotiating margin, he can appear to offer more. The dealer offering the best price upfront is at a disadvantage when it comes to a trade value. Since he gave you all available discounts upfront, he has to tell you what's its really worth to him. Of course, we did not try to buy his boat. We told him what it was worth to us when he asked. If you ask your neighbor to buy your lawn mower, you have no right to complain about his offer. If you are not happy with a dealers offer, simply sell it yourself. There are multiple variables often known only to the dealership like changing market conditions, time of year, current cash on hand, current stock on hand, liability, listing, sales and demo costs, etc. Selling it yourself, you certainly should get more since you generally experience much more risk and hassle. Finally, we always offer our customers a consignment option which lets the market decide the value. We take 10% of the sale price and assume much less risk. That option did not seem to interest Mr. Bodros. In short, we feel this complaint is without merit. He had every right to take his business elsewhere if he believed ( correctly or not) he was getting a better deal. The motivation to complain about our offer online seems inaccurate, inappropriate and , with a motivation that we don't understand, somewhat vindictive. That's life dealing with the public, You never know what you'll get... I don't know what Water World means by multiple differences so I have included attachments of the sale ad from Towne Marine. I have attached Towne Marine's 2 page ad of the boat I bought from them. It shows the sale price for a 2023 Sylvan X! Mirage Tritoon on sale for $51,389.00 was $59,173.00. Note that it came with a 200hp Yamaha. Included in that price was a depth finder, Yamaha Extended 3 year warranty and a SS prop. Trailer was not included in the sale price. I will never take my motor there again! I,m sure David will make some attempt to explain... I,ve had boats my entire life and never had treatment like this. The service manager badmouthed evinrude, they are a certified service center and made too many excuses to list. After completing the work the boat had zero improvement. Called back and was told the mechanic would call. Never did, wss told the owner would call, never did. Explained all this to evinrude and they have been great. Another dealer is gonna handle it. I had a poor experience with the scuba side of the operation. Day 1 drop off gear to be serviced asked for 1) BC overhaul 2) Overhaul first stage, primary reg and secondary reg 3) Computer send in for recall and battery replacement Day 10 call to check up on it and am told it will come in over the weekend and they will call me. They never call me. Day 21 I call to check up and tell them I need to pick up by Friday. I am told they need to check with technician and will call back. They never call. Day 24 I call to pick up and am told they need to make sure they have it and will call back. I do not receive a call back. I call at 5 PM and they say they have it in hand. I go there. The work was not done and I sit and wait for it to be completed. I leave the store at 6:30 - thirty min after they close. I was slightly annoyed when they "gave" me another mouth piece that I didn't even want and acted as if it was a big deal. I did not ask for that and I do not care about an inexpensive mouth piece. The work was incomplete 1) They did not overhaul my BC because it was labeled incorrectly 2) They could not overhaul my alternate reg because they couldn't remove the housing. 3) Yes, service for my computer was rendered as expected. I was alright mishaps with service with and not bothered enough by calling and waiting to write an angry review. However, I am mad because in reviewing my paperwork I was charged $25 plus tax in labor to insect my BC. Nothing was actually done to it. All the while, I have spent at least $50 in my own labor time dealing with this! read more

My boyfriend is a diver. And I nearly failed my YMCA Tadpoles swim class. Then there was a harrowing snorkel experience in Hawaii (my skin, raw and hyper-sensitive to the sun no thanks to being an acne-prone adolescent on Differin; couple that with being a recovering mouth-breather, and you try having any fun with a snorkel). Anyway, our first trip together was to Roatan -- apparently, the kingdom of coral reef and fish. Great. As he persistently tried to extol upon me the virtues of the ocean and its marine life, I became increasingly frantic. I hate snorkeling! The faulty, leaking equipment. The used mouthpieces. The awkward footwear. But Phil was convinced to convert me. So we took a trip to Water World and had me fitted out for fins, a mask, and a snorkel. These guys know what they're talking about -- and after explaining my inept snorkeling experience and aversion to swimming in general, I got hooked up with a mask that actually fits my face -- and it's fashionably pink! No more beachwear faux pas! The staff is very much the scuba set. When they heard we were going to Roatan they sequestered Phil and raved about their experiences there. I daydreamed about lobster dinner. Anyway, we're headed back here before taking off for Grenada and Carriacou in the Carib next month. I'm graduating to flippers, plus we're getting a dive flag, waterproof float bag, and some other goodies. This is a complimentary review of the marine branch of Water World. I recently purchased a new deck boat with a Yamaha outboard. This group at Water World are a decades old family of marine sales professionals. I found great value in the boat I purchased. Most business's wouldn't want to spend the extra time on the customer as David did when the boat was first delivered . He called and asked if I wanted him to show me the boat before it was prepped for delivery. Heck Yes!!! This was a really cool experience doubling my buying pleasure. It kinda reminded me of Christmas with David helping me unwrap the big present you've been wanting. I thought it was a nice human touch. Each member of the staff have a well rehearsed role in teaching the customer about the boat and safety. ***GAS CONTAMINATION*** This is a review of the scuba side of the operation. It was good enough because they were the only place in Durham to get fills for tanks - or so I thought. I'll ignore the old, outdated gear and the inattention and rudeness of the staff who always complained when the working pressure of a tank was 3442 psi and acted like it was a favor when they could do a hot fill to 3000 psi. ANYWAYS. Ignoring all of that, I wish I could give them 0 stars because after analyzing some old fills from their shop from before they burned down, we discovered CARBON MONOXIDE contamination in our air fills along with elevated levels of carbon dioxide. For the past year, I've experienced some uneasiness, anxiety, and a general feeling of unwell while diving that I have never felt before. I wondered if I had a bad fill, but when it persisted, I chalked it up to anxiety. (Note that i didn't have these symptoms while diving elsewhere with different tanks and fills) Now I know, after analyzing all of our own tanks that I was most likely getting persistently contaminated fills as this was the only place I have gotten fills for that whole time. This air in my tanks is supposed to keep me alive underwater. Let that sink in. I'm not surprised their business burned down, and I'm glad that it did (only because no one got hurt). If it didn't they very well may have killed someone if the level of contamination in their air increased. If they rebuild, they should stick to boats or have a serious think about the way their scuba shop is run, how safe it is, and what is really most important read more

I stopped by Water World to sign up for a PADI course and was met by a less than friendly over weight fellow. I asked many questions but was quickly turned off to learning to dive as the salesman was so rude and unenthusiastic. My husband and I bought a pontoon boat from a boat show (so we had lots of choices), and chose to buy from Water World. David was very knowledgeable and not at all pushy (as some others were). Our experience in picking up the boat/buying accessories was just as good. He showed us how to use everything on the boat, even offered to bring it to a lake and show us on the water. If there was a zero option I would choose that. Today I needed to buy some coral reef friendly sunscreen for a scuba trip to the tropics in two days. Thinking a dive shop would have that, I called Water World at the number on their web page starting at 10 am when they open. I got the voice mail message saying they were open and would answer the phone from 10 am - 6 pm. I called 5 times between 10 -11, got voice mail which said the mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. Since I'm leaving soon for my trip, I decided to risk it and drive 40 min to the shop. I arrived at the address on their web page (135 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC) and found that the store had burned and they had moved. So I got the new address and drove another 15 min to the temporary store on Christian St. I went in and asked about the sun screen, they didn't have it. I told them I called several times to ask about the sun screen before driving all the way there, no one picked up and voice mail was full. I was told the phone number had also changed. GGGGRRRRR!
