We recently rented the Lake House property over the weekend of 7/31/15. The condition of the property upon arrival was completely unacceptable, cobwebs and dust, dead bugs, dirty windows and electric outlets and fans that did not work. In addition to that, we had to leave the property on Sunday due to the fact that we discovered mice feces in multiple areas throughout the house along with dead cockroaches behind one of the beds. Mice feces are not only unsanitary they can cause diseases like the Hantavirus. We left a message with the rental office on Sunday which was never responded to. I have attached the photos one of our renters took of some of the conditions I reference. We had rented several times in the past from your company, however, after out last rental experience and the lack of response it is doubtful that we will rent from your reality company again. As I am sure you can understand we feel that we paid for an unclean, unsanitary property that we needed to evacuate, not only did this inconvenience us but also the family that we ended up staying with. read more

We needed to rent a house near Columbia, South Carolina so our family could get together for Christmas since we had recently sold our home in Florence. My husband went to homeaway.com and it took him to Lake Murray Vacation Rentals. We needed three bedrooms, two bathrooms and since my son was bringing his dog, it had to be pet friendly. We were sent to a home on the lake ( I think they all are) at 258 Turtle Trail. Our first one and a half days we were here, because hurricane Matthew had come through here, our hot water smelled like rotten eggs which reeked through the house. I called the company and they told me to run the water out of the hot water heater which made the smell even worse. Don't you think a management company should have come prior to our rental to do this? There were also some ceiling lights that were burnt out and had not been replaced. Their housekeeping company leaves a little to be desired. Remember all surfaces, including glassware left on shelving, needs to be dusted. Also, the wood flooring on the sides of the carpeted steps needed a desperate cleaning. Appliances were outdated. There was no ice nor ice cube trays to use to make ice. We own a condo in Myrtle Beach and rent it out when we are not there and our management company would never stand for this. We also found out after we got here that there was no internet service. I was told that a lot of homes don't have it because a lot of times it doesn't work. You're on a huge open lake and technology has really come along so I think you could have internet service. Would I use this rental company again? No, they would have to manage things a little better. read more

I stayed with Sharon M. My review of the place we stayed at is the same. The vacation rental property we stayed at was titled, THE LAKE HOUSE. It smelled like a funeral parlor when you walked in with outdated decor. The main reason for this review was the finding of mice feces below two of the beds that were in the house. As we were looking through the house for more I noticed underneath the night stand next to the bed the had what aspirated to be bright orange poison pills for the mice to eat. The owners know about the problem but never released any of the information about the mice problem in the rental information. As we kept looking through the house we found more rat feces in the kitchen cabinets. I could go on but I an sick of telling this story. We called up the rental office on Sunday and left a message a after we vacated the house to go stay at another house with friends and left a voice mail but never got a reply or anything. After seeing the feces would you want to stay in the house? No so we left. The company and the owner of the rental property got their money so why bother calling us to compensate us for the rental. This company and rental property definitely have bad customer service and we will not be using them again. The person that booked the rental usually books homes through this company over the last 5 to 10 years and he will not be going back. read more

Photos they advertise of rentals are deceiving! Docs Landing photos are nothing like what you get. The pictures are obviously from years ago. For the price they charge it is so not worth the experience and ruining your vacation. Safety hazards inside and outside. Upkeep of Home is poor. Please think twice before renting from these people. Stayed at Doc's Landing. Trash had not been taken off of the property, smelled like dead carcass for the duration of my 5 day stay. Outside of the house was in VERY poor condition, slipped and fell at around 12 am, due to the slick grime on the front porch stairs. House has clearly not been pressure washed for at least 2 years, generous. The garage was disgusting, absolutely horrid, floor was covered in trash, the "Ping Pong and Air Hockey tables" that were advertised were falling apart and covered in cobwebs like the entire garage, Yes the entire garage was nothing but cobwebs and massive spiders behind every crevice. There was a caterpillar infestation throughout the entire house, even found them in our freshly cooked food. Why am I paying for a cleaning fee, when the living area clearly had not been vacuumed, along with several crumbs around the edges of the beds. The inside of the house was amazing, I will admit, but the condition was terrible, one sliding glass door wouldn't even unlock or open, the second had no lock, so it was secured by placing a wooden stick between the door and the wall, and the last door would have to be pulled hard to open, as it was stuck. Was told the Hot Tub was "Inoperable". Sinks were backed up continuously in two of the bathrooms, yet the other plumbing seemed to be pristine. Lights would flicker on and off every hour or so, and many lights needed to be replaced as they were too dim. Upon arrival, the key that is supposed to be attached to the welcome book inside, was missing, apparently it was "Broken", I don't see why it wasn't replaced already, but I'll let that one slide. The pictures of this house are obviously from years ago and not very accurate. Outside lighting was scarce, and inadequate. The slick grime was on every wooden surface outside, same as the front porch, the entire back porch was slippery, and most of it was green, absolutely appalled at how disgusting this property was, especially for the price paid. Another safety issue, fell out of one of the porch chairs and nearly off the balcony in the process. The entire building is a hazard. Definitely not worth the money put forward to stay here for 5 days. The entire dock was covered in spider webs, a massive web was preventing entry to the dock, until knocked down. Was told people were just in the house hours before us... doesn't really add up. To sum it up, don't stay here at this specific rental. Reading the rest of the reviews on Google, and on other websites, it seems that many of the rentals are in poor condition as well. Surprised they are still in business, honestly. By the way, they like to delete all negative comments and reviews off of their Facebook page, can't handle the truth, I guess. read more

We recently stayed in rental titled Acapulco Hangover. For the most part a very lovely little cabin that hangs out over the water and has a set of stairs a ramp and a dock connected directly to the bedroom door. This was a last minute rental and a holiday weekend so we weren't expecting five star luxury accommodations. The building itself is very cute and cozy. Has most everything you need to survive a night or two at the lake and they are very upfront about what you should bring with you. Now for what is wrong with the cabin. Both screen doors have ripped screen and gaps around the door. So even on a cool evening you have to shut the door to keep the bugs out. The bathroom towel bar is extremely loose and fell multiple times. Because of a quest log book, I know they have been notified of this several times. The grill was about as useless as tits on a boar hog. With two burners and only one knob to be switched back on forth, on their highest settings would barley cook a hamburger all the way through, let alone the high dollar steaks we had purchased to grill. On our last day there, for whatever reason, I open the cover to the fuse/breaker panel. OMG! There weren't any. Through the holes where the breakers were supposed to be you could see that wires had been wire nutted together. Very scary, since breakers/fuses are meant to prevent equipment damage as well as save lives. read more
