One of the better lakes around Auburn/Federal Way area! There is a nice little park and grass area for children to play and people to play volleyball or kick around for soccer. There is a lake that is a little walk in. There is a dock and other little openings around half the lake for people to fish and hang out. The other half is private property. I like how there are multiple openings and areas, and even the dock, for people to fish or to just enjoy the lake. When there is just a dock, I find a lot of people cramp up around the dock, but this is nice.

What a nice little hidden gem.

Steel Lake, connected to Steel Lake Park in Federal Way, Washington, is one of the most popular and…read moreaccessible lakes in the area. It's a wonderful community destination because it's easy to reach, and both the park and lake are generally kept clean, attractive, and well maintained. Like many popular recreation areas, the lake can become quite busy on warm days and weekends, and occasionally some litter is left behind. What I appreciate is that by the next morning the area is often cleaned up again thanks to the hard work of park staff and community members who help keep the park looking its best. One of my favorite things about Steel Lake is that it is stocked with trout once or twice each year, providing great fishing opportunities throughout much of the season. Visitors come here to fish, swim, kayak, paddleboard, and enjoy boating, with only battery-powered motors permitted on the lake. Overall, Steel Lake is a fantastic local resource that offers something for everyone and remains one of the best places in the area to spend a relaxing day outdoors.

So much to do and so much fun activities for the kids!!…read more They fixed the playground so there were additional games the kids can do. The best part is you can visit their website and you can check if the water is okay for the kids to play with . There's usually an update regarding if you can swim and such. The only thing I'm worried about is when there is no one there to facilitate the other kids swimming, because I noticed there were lots of kids who goes there without their parents or guardians. The cops do come around for their rounds sometimes, but not all the time . I always have my eyes on my kids because there were sooooooo many people and soo many kids during school break holidays and I can't even imagine summer break. If you want to entertain your kids for hours bring them here and just have a picnic and enjoy the sand with the kids. Don't forget the shovel and bucket though lol.

The parking lot is right off a main road, so I wouldn't be too worried about break-ins, really. The parking lot was also in good condition - I've noticed a lot of parks in Kent have dented signs, overflowing trash cans, etc. Not this one, though! The sign was clean and there was a bulletin board covered in lost/found pet flyers, band flyers, etc. All of the reviews talking about "Oh, it's too short!" clearly didn't take the time to explore. There is a straight shot right to the dock, yes, and it'll probably take about 8 minutes tops, but there are so many trails around the lake that can be explored. A lot of the trails break off into smaller trails as well in order to give visitors more to see. I was here for a little over an hour, and I only stayed at the dock for about 20 minutes. The rest of my time was spent exploring. Sitting at the dock was by far the best part of my day. The smell, the sun, the birds chirping... Just awesome! I was glad to see that the trails and the whole park itself wasn't covered in too much litter. Very minimal, actual. There were a lot of bird houses hung up around the lake too which was a cool thing to see. It was a perfect day to visit - the birds, bees, butterflies, and even a SNAKE was out! It slithered right across the main dirt trail, so they're not scared to stop by and say hi! If you live in Kent or are just in the area and need time to kill, this is a definite go-to spot. So glad there's a place to indulge in nature therapy in Kent.

The trails were varied in size, wide and narrow. A dog friendly park as you can tell by the photos. Beautiful scenery and a lake in the middle of the park. I look forward to exploring this park more. The parking lot is very small. Across the street was a larger parking lot, but not sure if it was actually part of the park. No bathrooms here that I could determine. Happy trails fellow Yelpers.
