I recently stayed at Lake Compounce campground with my family, for the very first time. It was lovely. We did consider cancelling 3 days prior to our trip, based on the reviews we read in 2023 about bedbugs. Thankfully, our stay in Cub Hut 2 was bedbug free. The only reason this campground lost one star was: 1. the close proximity to other campers. That applies to all camping options- staying in the cabins, huts, or tent camping. Everyone was too close to each other. And 2. the bathrooms were in dire need of more cleaning. There was visible mold in the showers and on the shower curtains. The cleaning staff need to atleast double the amount of times they clean the bathrooms. Staff were welcoming. Overall a good experience. read more

This is the second time that my family and I have visited lake Compounce campgrounds. The positives are friendly staff, and a reduced park pass / free park pass on second day. The bad: Cabins aren't very clean, heavy mold build up in areas of the bathroom, dirty floors, mouse urine on the countertops. Human body oil and dirt is embedded in nearly every wood surface, dirt on/under bed, leftover food from previous campers. The cabins need an overhaul, sanding and coat of shellac. I also wish they had an arcade / indoor play area. My fondest memories of camping were the nighttime visits to the campground arcade before bedtime. The camp store is ok, but my suggestion would be to get rid of the toy section, and provide a wider variety of food. I went in to buy milk/eggs, but they didn't have either. A hairdryer and toaster in the cabin would be a huge plus. read more

Two nights stay. Check in super easy but lacked shared information. Was given a map and told our campsite number. Where are the bathrooms? Store hours? How do we get discounted tickets to the park? We had 2 sites with pre-set up tents (yeah I loved this idea and it made tent camping so much more enjoyable! It was only $10/night! Cheap!) One site was partially flooded the first day. And other customers drove through the puddle splashing like fools! I liked that there were accessible garbage barrels in the woods, changed multiple times a day (we watched.) Our site easily could see the camp store and the playground which was great since out 11 year old and the 9 year old wanted to be there with all the other kids! LOTS OF KIDS! Friday night- group of 10 kids ranging in age from 9-16 were running around. even at 1:30am when I went to bed! Security was circling all night. The kids were evading. when we slipped into our tents the kids came in an were scouring our site! Never have I ever experienced this before at a campsite! Then I laid there thinking about what did they steal, are they going to come back? 10 minutes later they came running through screaming and woke up my whole family (19 month old included!) The next morning I immediately went to security- he informed me he corned the kids at 3am in the woods. Spoke with the Mother who was sleeping and asked how she was supposed to watch them if she was sleeping??!!! (No joke!) They got kicked out. Kudos to LCC for doing the right thing. + Good playgorund area + clean facilities + super nice store on premises +security detailed is present + close to the park +pre-set up tents is a win read more

I had previously stayed at Cabin #4 and this is the second time I have stayed at this camp site. So it was to my surprise that we discovered bed bugs at Cabin #2. My friend has extreme sensitivity to bugs and she immediately showed bites after the first night. Our accommodations were Friday-Sunday. At first we thought it was a mosquito as we did see it around but on Sunday is when we had physical proof. My friend had woken up in the middle of the night to visit the bathroom and she saw it crawling on her face. We checked out in a rush that morning leaving 2 bundles of wood as well as other paper product we had brought with us. We also had to throw out bags, sleeping bags and pillows. The camp store was informed upon our check out and we provided them proof in a piece of paper towel. Neither one of their staff had any words to say and not even an apology. I called much later that day and asked for a manager and I was told there wasn't any available so I left my name and number. Monday I still had not received a call back so upon calling I was informed that the manager will not be in until Thursday and that she was a supervisor so perhaps she could help me with my inquiry. Immediately she said the supervisor will be in and that was the end of it. I am hoping they are taking this matter seriously and did not place anyone in Cabin 2. Having to go home immediately and cancel all plans just to be sure we didn't bring this pest home with us is a nightmare in itself! Cabin #8 was not booked and decorated so I wonder if it wasn't booked for the same reason. We had a great time only because of the company but could've been anywhere. I cannot say if I can recommend this place or if I will even consider even coming back at all. I also had to read the FAQ for further information and call multiple times just to get some answers on general questions the first time around. Thanks but no thanks. read more

I've stayed here three times now. I admit I was freaked out after reading the report of bedbugs. Fortunately, my cabin (4) had no issue. And the one named in the other review is sealed up, not being rented, so it seems they took the bedbug report seriously. Campground and cabins are immaculately clean, including the bathrooms. Camp store has all the necessities, including coffee in the morning. I'm taking one star off because they used to have a tram that ran back and forth to the park. They haven't had it in years. That means that now you have to deal with parking when you go across to the park. The parking is free for campers, but it's a huge lot and you have to deal with parking and walking and finding your car. The tram was a big benefit of camping. read more

BED BUGS! A couple of friends and I checked in July 24th 2023, We stayed in a cabin that was bed bug infested! The first night we assumed the couple of bites were from mosquitos but after the second night we woke up with 10x more bit.... After looking into the type of bites we checked our mattress and saw bed bugs. We reached out to the campground to try to get refunded for the awful experience of getting eaten by bed bugs along with having to bug bomb every single thing we brought with us As to not bring them home with us. We have not received any word back from the consumer service yet. We are looking into hiring a "bed bug lawyer" and I suggest anyone who had a similar experience do the same. Has anyone else tried to contact the campground after leaving with no returned emails? I do not want to sue to get a refund but if no one reaches out I don't see another option. read more

Unfortunately arrived when air quality was poor/very unhealthy with a 4 & 6 yr old. Couldn't stay because of health concerns. Was told I had to pay at least for one night and a refund for 2nd day would be credited minus a $45 fee. Since 6/30...three emails to Manager (no response), two phone calls to property staff regarding refund (30 days waiting) and finally told NO refund! Now have to dispute the amount paid with my bank! DO NOT book a stay here. Even though we couldn't stay, the assigned cabin included bent blinds, dead bugs (bathroom and bed area), and a tv that would be difficult to view because of its size! read more

Great place to spend time at after a ride riddled day at the amusement park. They provide shuttle service to and from the park. Lots for the kids to do to burn off any remaining energy they may have. Sit around a campfire, enjoy your favorite libation and relax knowing you don't have to fight any traffic after a day filled with fun. The staff is always spot on. They are eger to help in any way and answer any questions/concerns you may have. read more

I have rented a cabin at the campground for a few years without incident. My family has always enjoyed our time there. Just be aware that with any traveling you can pick up unwanted and certainly uninvited guests to bring home. Bedbugs have become an issue at the campground in the cabins and huts. No one was the entry building, should have had sign for check in at general store. Sites have 50amp,cable,water NO sewage dump. Shower rooms were dirty, they cleaned them only once a day that I saw. WiFi was non existent at our site, large tree block the signal. Ladies at counter were very nice. For a quick stay campground is good for that. read more

They are so far from customer service. They are 100% horrible at customer service. The place is super cute but lake compounce is a horrible company to have anything to do with people. 1st, we wait over 40 minutes in line just to get to the gate (there is no way to get to the campground without going through the main parking area. 2nd, they say there's a tram. NOPE! Not in a long time but they still advertise it. 3rd. The store doesn't take cash. 4th. The park closed hours early due to rain but no refund is given. 5th. The store in the campground closes at 8pm UNLESS it rauns, then they close whenever they want without telling campers. They want you to only buy their wood but close early. I was looking forward to having a 2 night stay fun filled weekend with friends and my children. To my damn surprise, we discovered bed bugs at the cabin we were staying in, specifically CABIN #2. I have extreme sensitivity to bugs and immediately the bites were visible. At first, I thought it was due to mosquitos but by Sunday my daughter and I had bites all over and I had proof because when I woke up due to being itchy, their was one on my face. In that moment, we got the heck out of there not before throwing out most of our items like wood, camp gear, food, boxes, pillows, blankets and any material we thought a bed bug could get themselves in. My friend and I went to check out and informed the people on duty what was happening and brought the bed bugs in a paper towel. Neither one of their staff, their were 3 of them, had any words to say and I mean nothing. They looked at use, the bed bug and each other and didn't say a word. My friend called much later that day and asked for a manager. She was told there wasn't no one available. Once Monday came around and their was still no call back. When my friend and I called at a later time on Monday, the woman on the phone said she was a supervisor so perhaps she could help with any inquiries we had. Immediately, after hearing the story, she said the manager will be in on Thursday, gave us the manager direct line and cleaned her hands just like that. This past weekend, at that campground, was a total fail. I hope they didn't place someone in there right after us, after we let them know about the issue. We will be calling back on Thursday October 6, 2022. I'm not ever going back, period. read more

My family and I recently stayed at the Lake Compounce Campground tent site for the first time and it wasn't the greatest experience. First off when we arrived on out tent site the grass was extremely high around the picnic table and where we put up our tent to a point on which the grass would be above our ankles, now with the summer being so hot and humid grass should have been cut down due to mosquitos and ticks volume being high this year. The wood that we bought at the camp store was damp and was not useable at all because the wood wouldn't light even with starters inside the fire pit, not to mention when we arrived on our tent site there was no fire pit ring around the fire pit, so we had to steal one from another site. There was garbage left over from previous campers around our site that looked like it had been there for quite sometime and it was horrible and not phaseable at all. The best part of our camping trip was just the Lake Compounce Park, as for the campground, maintanence is really needed. read more

I love the campground at lake compounce. It is a lot of fun for families, there are a lot of activities and the possibilities are endless.

Small campground. Sites are long with water, 50 amp elec and cable. Grass needs mowing. No coffee. Told "We don't make coffee with this fee guests" (probably 10 campers). Very quiet. Cute playground for kids. For $65 they could at least make some dang coffee read more

We had a great time at Bear Creek. It was our first time staying, but we've had season passes for years. Finally I gave it a try. Kid and I had a teepee. It was great. Its elevated on a trex platform. Clean with a little fridge, electricity, a lamp and a fan with five cots. Deceptively large! Tram to and from the Park is a great idea and ran back and forth regularly. Hardly a wait. The campgrounds are immaculate. Great little playground. Very friendly staff. Fun organized evening games for kids and families. We had a fun surprise of the Hartford Wolf Pack mascot and promo crew playing hockey on the pavement with the kids. So much fun! Plenty of roomy, clean showers and bathrooms. Never a wait. The hum from the incinerator becomes white noise before you realize it. It's a good first camping weekend for the kid. I think I will make it a Labour day camping tradition. read more

once I heard about bedbugs in some cabins omg I was so worried about it! but everything turned out great my cabin was bug free I was in cabin 20! me and my boyfriend had a great time we stayed for 3 nights! the beds suck!! I hate those beds! but other then that! i love going to lake Compounce campground I've been going for some years now :) and then we went to the park for one day and that was great! but other then that I give the park a good rating!! read more

Just returned home from our first visit to this campground and we will DEFINITELY be back! Extremely clean, well-kept campground. Staff were helpful and friendly, our Cub Hut (#1) was clean, cool and adorable! We got stuck in a downpour and they had local restaurant menus on the ready and they were spot on with their recommendation! My only complaint is that they can't control the weather! LOL 2 adults and one 12 year old were all very pleased with our experience. Campstore is well stocked for anything you may forget and staff are more than available to help you with anything you may need. We had a wonderful visit! read more

I have been to this campground several times now, and I like how close and convenient it is from our town. There are a whole lot of shopping options from Walmart to Aldi if you need supplies, food and such. The restrooms and showers are some of the cleanest I have seen in a campground. Another reviewer said he found the staff prickly, but I have always thought they were very friendly, one of the girls even recognized me from a previous visit. The trash incinerator has a humming sound that you will tune out after some time and wasn't distracting at all. The only thing that I think they need is another small bathroom building on the other side of the tent section, in the morning it felt like eternity walking there to seek relief. read more

My family and I arrived at the campgrounds on Friday, 7/4/13. It was obvious that the campgrounds had just opened this week, as landscaping was in its beginning stages. We went to check in at the main office-a beautifully decorated/ clean/ fully stocked camp store/ lodge. They had just about everything you could need for your stay there. The decor was fantastic-with mason jar lighting, wooden barrels with chess and checkers boards to play on. Just a great, fun rustic atmosphere where they later held bingo, a kids dance party, and arts and crafts. We were tenting it for the weekend, but the tepees looked like SO beautiful and the cabins looked great as well ( I think we will try the cabins next time!) We have a one year old so tenting was a bit tricky, but our 11 year old was in heaven! He brought his bike and was able to bike around the whole campsite, with us able to see him and keep an eye on him the entire time. The bathroom and laundry room facilities were immaculate. The customer service was FANTASTIC! Everyone very friendly. Cannot say enough great things about Michael, the manager. He was there onsite when we checked in in the morning and was still there at 10 p.m., still with a great, friendly attitude. They had a tram service to take you over to the park , which was great ( I would suggest that they put up a sign for Bear Creek campers to stand at and wait at the Park, with pick up times listed along with a phone number. After leaving the park with the kids, in the rain, we had to walk back because we couldn't see the tram or get a hold of anyone on the phone to pick us up. The camping was wonderful, though you are close to other campers. I was very impressed with the bathroom facilities and was happy to see a changing table in the women's room that was over a counter and sink, very helpful! Would have like to have seen a family bathroom though, where we could shower and use the bathroom together as a family. Saturday night we had a group next to us that was very loud, until later than 1 a.m. (quiet time is 11 p.m. to 7 am) and they did not get a warming from the 24 hr security crew ( we didn't see anyone patrolling all night?). We did feel that the camp sites could have been a bit better prepared, as there were roots EVERYWHERE (the whole ground cover was like this!) that would trip you up and made it a bit dangerous/unpleasant to move around the site. Also, hope they plant more trees. Perhaps better, small roadways and bike paths (much of the camping area was dirt roads, with large mud puddles) no biggie though! Another concern was did have is if they have sprayed for ticks-we found three on us in a matter of hours!!! Loved that Kyle the crocodile came around and visited the kids at the campsites every morning. All in all, the experience was FANTASTIC! We will be making this a family tradition for years to come and look forward to our next adventure there! Pros: Super helpful, friendly staff. Very clean grounds & bathrooms. Stones kept our camper floor clean. Tram to park & back is an efficient system! Bathroom building is perfect, they thought of everything! Cons: No privacy or shade due to lack of trees. It's like camping in an open, hot parking lot. Campsites are very close together. There are no seasonal campers, so the people are more to themselves. All in all it was very convenient to be so close to Lake Compounce! We spent many hours in the park, we basically only ate & slept at the campsite. We will most likely be back again! read more

Horrible campground. Situated in between a dump and a quarry, you can see methane vents, hear and smell a huge incinerator and the banging of the quarry will drive you nuts. No grass, just rock, no trees and lots of bees and insects from the dump. Worst camping experience ever. The smells, sounds and lack of atmosphere were the pits. No pool and the wifi was nonexistent. Great campgrounds for camping or glamping. Family friendly and incredibly clean. We have stayed in 4 star hotels not kept up as well as this place (lets hope it stays this way when it isn't as new). Staff is friendly and attentive. We had a shower issue and the staff handled it immediately with no issue. Will definitely go back! Only reason it gets 4 stars is because their "theme weekends" are a bit underwhelming and basically involve a craft and game. read more

Horrible experience. The campground is literally in the shadow of Bristol's massive Covanta trash incinerator plant, which was incredibly loud and noisy, not to mention an eyesore that was shooting god-knows-what into the nearby air. The noise was immediately audible to me and my girlfriend and became increasingly loud through the night, to the point that when we tried to sleep we could still hear nothing but the rumbling racket of the incinerator. Moreover, the campground is exceptionally ugly. It seems to have been built on a parking lot, with hardly any trees, nor any lake or pool. I've actually camped in NICER parking lots. We left early. When I later called the campground to explain how irritating the noise had been, the manager conceded that the incinerator was especially loud that weekend. But she said it "wasn't our fault." She refused to compensate us, be it with a reimbursement or with complimentary camping or theme park passes. Future campers beware, you are camping at your own risk. Staff was prickly. Services were minimal. Camp sites were small and cramped together. Never would I stay here again. read more

We had so much fun! My husband, our two kids, my sister and niece came for a weekend mid August. We rented a cabin for Friday to Sunday. We ended up in cabin 1. The cabin was very clean. There were a couple bugs in one of the bedrooms, but it's a cabin... There are bugs. The store is very well stocked and we purchased fire wood and made a fire. There are grill grates at each fire pit so we grilled. The kids had a ball! We did too! It was hot so it was really nice that the AC was so cold in the cabin. Saturday we spent at lake compounce. We were able to buy our tickets at the store and the shuttle to and from was fast. The staff was really friendly. Make sure you bring any dishes, pans, etc. we were pretty well equipped except I forgot dish soap so we had to buy that there. $3.50 for a small bottle. I was really surprised by how much fun we had. It was awesome. We will definitely be back. I think next year we'll stay an extra day just so we could hang out in the campgrounds one day. The staff was really nice and the girl running the kids program when we arrived was really sweet. That being said, it is new and as other people have stated, it's still growing in. But we had the fire pit and places to play and the kids really had a blast, so the parents did too. :) read more

This was our first experience at Bear Creek campground. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The campground is very clean including the public restrooms. The camp store is very welcoming and has a modern yet rustic feel. The campground is very open with no low hanging branches. The campground is new so their trees are very small. The campground is all stone so there is not a lot of dust being kicked up. That was a plus. There is a a small playground and basketball court that my kids loved playing on. We also had a visit from Lyle the crocodile (mascot of lake compuonce) the morning before we left. The campground also offers a tram service to and from the Lake Compuonce. The staff members who drove us to and from were very friendly. Couple of minor drawbacks. We really wished they had sewer services. They do not have sewer hook-up so we asked if they have someone to come around to empty and they did not provide that service. Also not enough signs to point us in the right direction to the campground. We ended up going the wrong way but found our way pretty easily. The campground is also very quiet and we loved that. We will definitely be returning to Bear Creek! read more

My family stayed this weekend at Bear Creek in the RV section so we could go to the park. The staff was super accommodating and friendly. You could not ask for a cleaner more modern campground . The roads are pebbles so the kids are not bringing dirt into the camper. There is no pool but not really an issue because by the time they spend the day in the water park they are wiped out. If you are looking for woods and trees and bugs this is not the place for you . This is more of a place to park your camper for a really fun time . read more

This is a great place to stay if you're visiting Lake Compounce with kids. We stayed in a one bedroom cabin and found it to be cute, comfortable, and clean. It's literally right next to the park, so getting there is a breeze (they'll shuttle you over and back). My only complaint would be that there's nothing much else to do there besides light a fire and make s'mores (there is a small playground, though). Then again, we went there for the park and that's where we spent most of our time. read more

At 10:18 Me and my friend Dominic got on the green bench to wait for the shuttle to come. But 30 minutes later shuttle finally came at 10:50. So I just wanted to say that it such bad service.
