The configuration is unique so it doesn't feel like a carbon copy of other spaces. I'll always think of this park as "caterpillar playground" despite the large climbing caterpillar having been taken out years ago. The zip line has also been taken out. There's an area for little kids with a mini-slide, little chalkboards and a bubble to peek through. On the big kids side there's a big climbing rope web, a big slide and a unique kid-launching rocker. If you fear heights, this is not the playground for you, lol. The location really can't be beat - some lawns nearby where you can kick a ball around or throw a frisbee. There's also a creek with plenty of rocks to climb on. There's a handicap-accessible porta-potty in the parking lot if you need it. Parking can be tight on weekends, but there are several adjacent parking lots and it's a pleasant walk. Grab a coffee and settle in at one of the picnic tables or benches. You may meet a Lakewood neighbor!

I love that if you needed to hop on the hampster wheel you could loop this bad boy 2,3,4+x and get in some respectable mileage. I've only looped it once which imo is a pretty lame but it is what it is. I have a much closer out and back route that I can hit for higher mileage without driving which will always be my preference. I have however been on this trail twice in the past month, once for the marathon and a week or so later when my son came to visit. It is a gorgeous run, but I have a water feature and lovely trees/wildlife on my local trail near me, so the trade off is driving which is hard to justify unless I loop it at least twice (coming soon). Parking is free, terrain varies over bridges, gravel, smoother concrete, areas of dirt trail etc. If you have any outdoor enthusiasts in town for a visit, it's a solid option to get them outdoors.

There is lots of trash scattered around the the lake and parking areas. I see some homeless as well that have made the lake home ,so that may be contributing to the trash . Gnats will be something that you see frequently . I'm not sure how often that it gets sprayed but the oak may also be a contributor. Around the lake is a total of 3 miles and it's some nice views in certain areas. It's directly behind the Dallas love field airport so you see multiple airplanes landing and leaving. It can get loud and noisy due to this but very exciting to see. You will occasionally see some ducks and rabbits along the path. Pretty cool place to enjoy a nice walk some views .

The large grassy space would be perfect for you to run around, throw a frisbee or a softball, and run and play. It's big enough to jog through, and safe enough to take a nap in. There's lots of places to sit in the shade under ample trees and little gazebo things that provide cover from the Texas sun. This park has a fountain- for some reason it looks like there's a bunch of concrete coffins in the middle of the fountain, but you're welcome to climb all over them! I saw an older guy taking a bath there. Be sure to check out the art- there's a graffiti wall where you can make your own masterpieces, or expound upon why you love Dallas on a 214 chalk board. Parking can be challenging, but it's on Main Street, so you should be able to use public transit to get here.

They had a huge projector screen where we could see the bingo numbers being called and where they'll be showing movies on Saturdays for the month of October. They also brought with them these huge pawns that my daughter was so entertained with. A DJ playing electronic dance music rather loudly. It was a fun time until I spotted the "Lynching" historical marker. Much like finding a stolpersteine in Europe, this is a jarring reminder of when things were decidedly not civil in the United States. And it's good that it's here so that we can't backslide or deny that it happened. A lovely little park that the kids will definitely enjoy though I think the water feature is not for playing in. Glad to see more green spaces downtown. I remember there being so much more urban wasteland back in the day like vacant lots and run down buildings. It's nice to see spaces like this actually create a cohesive neighborhood in the heart of downtown.
