Cute little place -- they offer tours, which we didn't take, but sampled a few things. I got one chocolate with coconut -- which was chewy and delicious -- think an upscale almond joy without the almond. Also, a milk chocolate salted caramel, which was the perfect ratio of caramel, chocolate and salt. I got a small bag of sour gummy stars which were super yummy and a prepackaged bag of spree-like colorful hearts. They were not that great. It was fun to see through the glass of the retail shop to view the "behind the scenes" chocolate-making process. It was also a little scary to see the quantity of sugar being used. read more

Cute little chocolate shop on bustling Church Street. Friendly staff and a pretty wide selection of chocolates, some organic. They've also serve up ice cream, smoothies, and other tasty treats in the back. We didn't get a chance to check out the tour but it does appear that they make fudge and other goodies right up front. In full disclosure, I've been a big fan of Lake Champlain's chocolates for years. The goal was to take the factory tour, but our quick day trip didn't allow for that. You can be sure that I was going to go to a store though! The staff here was very friendly, open to answering questions, and didn't mind is browsing around wide-eyed for over 20 minutes before deciding what to buy. Also. my husband is a huge fan of fudge, so he tried 4-5 samples before deciding what to get. While there, a staff member was making caramel apples - she was a delight to chat with and fun to watch. This review is for the website & customer service. Yesterday I ordered a s'mores kit and winter hot chocolate for my Aunt & her family/my cousins, to go out/be delivered week before before Christmas. When I put it through I got a confirmation number, but then two/2 email receipts different confirmation numbers. So I emailed their customer service--explaining somehow I got a duplicate order to please cancel one and I got a very nice email confirmation back later that day saying they did cancel the duplicate order. On related note, they have very good chocolate quality and for a short time had a lovely shop in the lobby in a building where I temped after college during the Great Recession/early 90's, there was something wonderful about walking through the early morning lobby and smelling melting chocolate! My boyfriend and I hit up this Chocolate factory while hanging out in Burlington. We heard the tour was free so we drove to find it. We had just missed the last tour of the day--and the woman working there felt bad for us--so she showed us a video in the lobby of how the chocolate is made. She was extremely sweet to do that. We also got to take a peek at the chocolate makers at work through the open window. There were a few things to read about how Chocolate is made and I thought that was pretty cool since we missed the tour. Afterwards I bought a little chocolate. I purchased a couple of truffles and they were amazing--especially the Amaretto one. However, they were a little pricey since they are all hand-decorated. If I ever go back, I'll check out the tour. I loved this little place--great place to go to get gifts for friends after a trip to Burlington--if you don't eat all your gifts, that is. read more

Good chocolates... I'd probably enjoy them much more if they didn't make my teeth scream in pain. Cavities are the ban of my existence. This summer I tried their hazelnut ice cream and oh my gosh! So good, creamy and rich, this ice cream is heavenly. I used to work at a Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory and I just can't stand their ice cream anymore, this ice cream is much, much better in my opinion! My boyfriends milkshake is where they lost a star, he got a vanilla milkshake and it was the worst milkshake either of has ever had. It was not good, in his own words "my aired frozen milk". I stopped in yesterday for chocolate and today for ice cream. : ) Bought a chocolate peanut butter cup (a good size and tasty), 2 dark chocolate caramel with sea salt (delicious) and 2 apple cider caramels dipped in milk chocolate (insanely good). Had the maple butter pecan ice cream today. Loaded with pecans. They make their own waffle cones and dipped them in their chocolate (!!!). Don't miss this wonderful place! Lake Champlain Chocolates' factory store is a dietician's nightmare. The truffles in the central display area are far too tempting and every bit of chocolate I have had there is absolutely smooth, lacking any form of metallic aftertaste I find in some brands *cough*Lindt*cough*. I just wish they sold baker's bars of the stuff like Valrhona so that I could prep desserts economically. I picked up a canister of their Aztec hot chocolate, which has worked as a wonderful dusting layer on top of some chocolate tortes I made. I'll get some more next time I'm up there... or maybe just order online. I bought a box of selected truffles for my parents and they enjoyed them, myself only trying the champaigne, which was lighter than it looks. The staff there was very warm and friendly without completely smothering your party or trying to actively hawk you goods. Seeing the factory behind the glass in full operation was a nice thing. We ended up coming back here three times in the process of one 'camping' trip (using the campsite as a basecamp). You genuinely see the process as opposed to Ben and Jerry's that feels more like a purely manufactured tourist site. There is no cheesy video to watch. This is review is for ice cream which is very good. Creamy and flavorful. I had the maple butter pecan. It had great maple flavor and a nice amount of large pecan pieces that added great texture. We ordered these during COVID-19, because we want to support small businesses and also because most grocery stores near us are out of good dark chocolate. We got about $75 worth of chocolate (need a big stock if we're in this isolation for the next 35 days!). Let me tell you: the chocolate arrived in 2 days. It was so nicely packed. I got such an array of different chocolates (I like peanut butter and coconut, while my husband prefers salted caramel and peppermint). And, the best part is that they are sooooooooo good! Yes, pricey. But, you're supporting small business, which is ESSENTIAL right now. Awesome chocolate. Great quality, great selection. We came to this store a few times while in Burlington. Over our visits I sampled three different flavors of fudge (a brown sugar flavor, vanilla, and chocolate chip). This is really tasty fudge, and we ended up buying the chocolate chip fudge as a gift. I (free) sampled an Aztec truffle, chocolate covered macadamia nut, and some sort of chocolate wafer. We also purchased something the sales girl said was similar to a kit kat. That was so good, even my husband who is not big in to sweets had one. I brought home a caramel covered marshmallow, which I can't wait to dig in to. This is unique and delicious chocolate. It makes a great gift, or satisfies your own sweet tooth. Next time I will sample the ice cream too- I only didn't because the line was too long, which is always a good sign! read more

In recent years, I have found myself shying away from milk chocolate in favor of really good, dark chocolate. Lake Champlain Chocolates have given me hope that I don't have to abandon milk chocolate altogether. The chocolate is delicious and creamy and not too sweet. The chocolate is AMAZING, but extremely expensive. The only way to go is to visit the factory, outside of the downtown. The mini-store on Church Street is simply for tourists and is EXTREMELY expensive. The good thing about the factory is that you can get some of the chocolate on discount (up to 50% off sometimes) due to defects and whatnot in the packaging. Lake Champlain Chocolates are definitely local indulgences; one doesn't just polish off a box in one sitting. I went here this weekend to buy a belated birthday present for my stepdad, who always receives some kind of food as gifts. When we walked in, one of the employees was making caramel apples dribbled with chocolate sauce. Yum! All of the employees were very friendly and helpful.
