The ice cream and sauces were delicious, high in flavor and creamy. I was able to have the salted caramel sauce on top of my coffee ice cream, which added a whole different layer of flavors. A warm summer night, sounds of the Jazz Fest rippling through the air, packed patios and a vibrant pedestrian mall. Perfect. The only thing that made our evening in Burlington even more perfect was our visit to Lake Champlain Chocolates. What an adorable little shop! Lots of yummy options for the amateur to the professional chocolate lover (I've eaten enough chocolate in my life to be considered Pro-Am at this point lol). I was impressed with both the selection of products available and the reasonable prices. I demonstrated unbelievable restraint by only buying one chocolate bar (to share with my wife) - dark chocolate with coffee ganache. If I keep telling myself that dark chocolate is "healthy", it will eventually be true, right?! The dark chocolate was rich, silky smooth and only a faint trace of bittersweetness (it's only 54% cacao, just barely enough to call it "dark" chocolate). The coffee flavour really came through in the ganache, like a satisfying cup of well-brewed espresso. Our Burlington hosts had some delicious looking ice cream from the ice cream counter - all of the flavours looked amazing. The shop was pretty busy by the time we received the ice cream orders and we were happy to grab a seat on their patio in the pedestrian mall. This shop is definitely on our "must revisit" list when we come back to Burlington, I mean you can't have enough chocolate in your life, right?! read more

I stop here every time I'm in town. Tour the factory, and buy some of the best chocolate in the country. I love the mole truffle, the dark chocolate disks with mint, and the caramel bars. The five star bars are great to take home. So delicious. In the winter it's a great place to get hot chocolate. The factory seconds are a more economical way to indulge your chocolate cravings. read more

I went in here to pick up chocolate to take home as gifts. They have really nice options in terms of gifts and a pretty large variety of flavors. I don't know what I ordered at their retail storefront but it was delicious. I was too full from an extravagant dinner for ice cream or chocolates (which I desperately wanted), but my bff and I decided to split a beverage. I asked the friendly staff if they had anything like a frappaccino or mocha milkshake that they could whirl up and they blended up some unicorn concoction of extra-dark chocolate with STRONG coffee. It was very rich, almost bitter, and incredibly addictive - my friend and I kept sipping away, but it was soooo rich that even the two of us couldn't finish the 1 drink. The store is very cute and very expensive. But, I noticed quickly in my brief time in Burlington that basically describes everything there: very cute and very expensive. My wallet felt the Bern. We went to Lake Champlain Chocolates several times on our recent visit. We went to the Burlington location and the Waterbury location. The ice cream is delicious! In Waterbury we had gone to tour the Ben & Jerry's factory and get some ice cream there however after seeing the wait for a tour you have to pay for and the line to buy ice cream we left and went to Lake Champlain Chocolates. I'm so glad we did. There was no wait and as we had already discovered in Burlington the ice cream was delicious and the atmosphere comfortable. Oh, and the chocolates are delicious too! Located on Church Street, I had to stop in here a few times during my stay in Burlington, VA. I bough an assortment of individual truffles, caramels, clusters and barks. These chocolates were not only attractive, but were high quality., rich ad not too sweet. Even the caramels, were very buttery and contrasted perfectly with the dark chocolate. My favorite were the apple cider caramels and the hazelnut truffles, which were also very large. The clusters were loaded with nuts and caramels as well. Try the seasonal ice cream as well; the apple cider cinnamon was excellent. While most of pieces are between $2 and $4, the shop also sells 99 cent wrapped chocolates with local flavors like honey, maple, mint, almonds. Be prepared to buy more than you intended. In addition to the fresh chocolates in the cases, they have an assortment of bars, clusters, boxed chocolates and caramel apples. These make the perfect gift when traveling. read more

The chocolate and truffles here are absolutely TO DIE FOR! I went to this location on Church Street in Burlington. The store is super cute and ready made chocolate bars and treats line the walls. On the opposite side an awesome chocolate making station where fresh treats had just been made! The young man at the counter was very sweet and helped me select a few truffles and treats based on my preferences. There was a little tray of samples (milk and dark chocolate squares). I loved what I bought here, I had great customer service, the variety is great... however, it was WAY too expensive. The display and interior is very warm, inviting, and organized. There are way too many delicacies to try in even a few visits, from marzipan treats to fudge slabs. They also serve daily mocha specials occasionally which is nice. The one treat I had was delicious, the chocolate here is by far some of the finest in the Burlington area. The chocolate is great - definitely pricey, but good. Not sure if it's worth-it good, but certain signature things - Chocolates of Vermont, Small World Truffles, Vanilla Bean latte - are really quite singular and worth investing in. The bummer is staff related- I've had nice nice people serve me here, but I think there are manager issues, as they always seem to be a little on edge - and once some dude was there flapping around being all nitpicky - hovering while I was being served (by someone I know has worked there a while and is always on) and basically being a jerk about tiny little things she "did wrong" - hello, I'm the customer here, if she's doing it wrong I can handle it. I am halfway through the rather large box of variety chocolates I purchased 2 days ago. There's been minimal sharing. This chocolate blows the doors off any other. I can TASTE the sea salt in the milk choc w/ sea salt. I can HEAR the Aztecs that refined the Spicy Aztec Dark Chocolate. I can SEE Lake Champlain in each individual bite... The chocolate shop sang to me as I walked up Church Street. It literally called my name from across the street. I quickly went inside to smell the scrumptious scent of chocolate being made. The only thing I can imagine better would be a weekend at Wonka's! The place is fab! They have a huge variety of truffles, fudge, and assorted individually wrapped chocolates and bars. I received a sample of fudge which was so great, the perfect dessert and way to top off the evening. I grabbed some indi-wrapped chocolates and would have grabbed a few more for gifts but with the heat, I didn't think it would make the trip safely. Bummer! Highlight of this delightfully warm, mid-October evening! Lake Champlain Chocolates has exceptionally delicious ice cream (and has been recognized as such by Seven Days' Seven Daisy Award for just that). It's a delightful stop on church street, and I drop in occasionally to grab a gift for an out of town friend (and coincidently something for myself as well). I enjoy their hot coco - my one request to have shipped to me when I was homesick and studying abroad - and their almond butter crunch ice cream is my summer time go to. not sure how long the 70% Dark Guatemalan Chocolate ice cream (made from Blue Bandana chocolate which is sourced directly from the farmers who grow their cacao beans) is on special, but is a must-try. This place really did hit our sweet spot during the summer time! This place is great! The chocolate here is awesome! Its cheap and its great to eat! We got a sweet tooth one night toward the end of the summer. So after dinner we went here. We got sick of Ben and Jerry's (I reviewed this location as well! Check it out!) As good as they are! So we came here instead! They did not disappoint! We walked in and they took our order! We got a few pieces of chocolate and some maple candy! It was easy and simple! The way I like it! Get in line and tell them what you want...Then less than 5 minutes later your out! The staff was very friendly and walked us through our questions. All of the candy was good! My favorite was the Peanut butter cup! It taste perfect! Nice shot of both peanut butter and chocolate! The prices here are more than fair! We ended up spending some where around $8 for everything. It fed us both and took care of our sweet tooth!! They even had some tables outside! Thats where we sat! Right on Church ST. This is a nice plus! You only need to remember 2 things when you walk into the store. 1) Buy a hot chocolate! (I went for the classic hot chocolate and added marshmallows). It is divine. 2) Buy some fudge. At $15/ pound, it isn't exactly that cheap but I secretly enjoy spending money on excellent chocolate for myself and the fudge is amazing. I really like the chocolate walnut fudge. Definitely better than Godiva, Lindt, and all the other grocery store cheap chocolates. The truffles are awesome but don't put it in the fridge if you can help it; better when eaten at room temperature and you can taste more of the flavor that way. I am a HUGE fan of the Maple Fudge and a few of their dark / coffee flavored ones. Comes right under my favorite (Leonidas) brand and I can get it locally.
