I came here after being referred here by my prior (also great) dentist since they were going to be out of network for me moving forward, and while this was just a bi-annual check-up for me. While I can't comment on more involved procedures so far, my initial experience was very positive. The actual work of doing the x-rays and cleaning and initial check-up was very straightforward and easy. In particular, I appreciated the extent to which both the hygienist and dentist were willing to explain anything and and answer any questions I had. The front desk administrator (Pam) was also incredibly nice, very helpful during my initial appointment setup, and very clear on what was covered and how much it would cost. The office is in a nice location, the wait was very minimal, and there was plenty of parking. Overall, great dentist, would recommend, will return in 6mo read more

THis was the worst experience of me going to a dentist in 22 years. I only went there to follow Dr Peterson who I loved in her previous practice and I'd called asking for her. When I went for cleaning, they told me she was not in the office and had left, which I'd wished they told me prior to making the appointment. THen the dental assistant spend 1/2 hr cleaning my teeth and charged me $250 or so. I was surprised since it was a lot and they claimed that was how much I had to pay and the rest would be charged to insurance. Later, they claimed insurance paid me directly which never happened and have been asking for $600 otherwise I would go to a collection agency. $850 for a cleaning!!!! Later another dentist who I visited 3 month later said it was a pretty shabby job! I would not recommend this place. Like other reviewers here, they are just here to charge a lot of money ! You'll get great dental care here but be prepared to pay for it! They will tell you that you need care that you do not need in order to charge you for it. As other reviews mentioned, the dentist and hygienist will upsell you for anything and everything. There's no such thing as a treatment plan, understanding what's within budget etc. The hygienist walks you to the counter and makes you pay for the treatment before you leave. I was charged over $1500 for treatment that I didn't need, they convinced me that I needed to see them every 3 months instead of every 6 months. It took me a while to figure it out but please please stay away! read more

My dental experience with Dr Janelle Moser-Harris at Lake Austin Smiles was the worst of my life. When a crown she designed fell off 4 times without even eating on it she made flimsy excuses instead of trying to figure out what the issue was. I finally went to another dentist (at additional expense) who told me the tooth stub and crown were too short. He fixed the tooth and designed a new crown which has stayed on just fine. Dr. Moser-Harris also used scare revenue-generating tactics to replace another crown that did not need replacing. They overcharged me and have refused to refund the high fee they charged for the crown that did not stay on. I recommend you stay away from this dentist. read more

I went here because at age 42, I finally had enough money saved to improve my smile. I had completed 3 years of wearing braces and the doctor told me she would put in six veneers to improve my smile. After the procedure was done, she recommended I wear a night brace. So I paid out of pocket for that. I spent thousands of dollars and for a time, my smile looked good. But my veneers kept coming off. I was terrified talking to clients and the doctor made me feel like it was such a bother for her to fit me in. After several visits because some veneers coming off, I think I finally got it right. Then several years later my front veneer chipped. It should have been a simple replacement but she told me that my chip actually took some of my natural tooth so I had to get a crown instead. That started the downward trend. I got the crown replaced and it was miscolored. Terrible! Then the night guard no longer fit. I had to come back to get the night guard adjusted. Then I chipped yet another tooth. I was then told to stop wearing the night guard because my teeth were shifting! During that visit she had the gaul to blame me for my teeth shifting due to not wearing my night guard. I have never not worn my night guard. Since then two veneers have come off and I have stopped going to her because the last time I needed to have it put back in, she as usual made it seem like she was bothered by by my repeated issues that she had to fix. I went to a prosthodontist and he said she took too much of my natural tooth off and they were mal-adjusted and that was why my veneers were coming off and chipping. I went to yet another prosthodontist and he said the same thing. Basically the second one said that the person who did this work on me was not trained and he recommended that people not go to dentists who try to do cosmetic work, like this place does. As I'm writing this, one veneer is chipped so badly that it needs replacement. And that is after she shaved down my bottom tooth (without my permission) so that it wouldn't rub against the veneer. I also have a veneer popped off that I've been using temporary cement on because I'm afraid that if I put it back in permanently, it will also chip. Great place for dentistry The receptionist is wonderful. The assistants are outstanding. But the dentist is should not do cosmetic work. . And she needs better beside manner because our smiles are very personal to us. And she basically ruined what should have been a positive life-changing experience. read more

EXPENSIVE. I was lied to about needing a "deep cleaning" when I had gone in for preventative care that was supposed to be in network. They are very dishonest and vulture like. Sadly they mask their deception with friendly words but by the time you know it all 4-5 of them are surrounding you saying you "must" get x procedure. It cost 1,900 fir this deep cleaning which was done in less than 30 minutes!!! How is a deep cleaning so fast? I went in there to try and get my free insurance preventative yearly cleaning and they stripped me owing them $800 out of pocket. Other offices say they over charged even for the type of procedure. Don't do any medical services downtown Austin. They'll get your $$$ read more

I recently had a wonderful experience with Lake Austin Smiles dentist Bethany Petersen and her staff. I am 78 years old and dread dental procedures ...the sound of the drill, people's hands in my mouth, etc. My situation was dire, or so I thought. Both of my beautiful top incisors needed repair and I was expecting extraction. But Doctor Petersen did a very successful crown procedure on both teeth and the results are stunning! Perfect fit. Perfect color match. Precision work. I can smile confidently once again! I requested some mild sedation and gave Bethany several CDs which she combined into an hour of background music and furnished headphones. I was drowsy but not asleep. Her assistant, Jennifer, was very supportive snd eased my nervousness. I felt like it was a family visit. The receptionist, Pam, was very friendly and mindful of temperature checks, only one person in the lobby at a time, and the requirement to wear a face mask. The whole visit was a success! read more

Dr. Harris-Moser is phenomenal. Her and her assistants are very professional, kind and knowledgeable. Pam at reception was super kind. However, the reason for the mediocre score is because of the lack or transparency in pay. There was a miscommunication between myself and billing about my out-of-pocket. I was told over the phone that we were just going to do the procedures that were covered by my insurance. I found this not to be true when sitting in the chair with my bib on ready for them to start the procedure. The doctor thought we were going to do everything she recommended even though I had told reception over the phone that I did not want to come out of pocket, to just do what would be covered. After sitting there in the chair and going over everything, again, I was then told that no matter what I chose I was still going to come out of pocket. Was not happy with this. I choose to believe it was miscommunication and not a bait-and-switch, but it gave me enough pause to want to write this review. Again, the doctor and her assistants were GREAT! read more

Great service and a warm welcoming staff. I never feel embarrassed or like I'm being recommended unnecessary, expensive procedures like I have with dentists in the past. Dr. Petersen takes the time to explain any areas of concern and how to treat them to avoid them from getting worse.
