We stayed in the Badlands Hotel at the Lajitas Golf Resort. The place had the vibe of the old west, which was really a cool experience. The staff here are outstanding. Very professional friendly, and helpful in any way that you need. The setting of the place is gorgeous (please see photos). There are mountains, the cacti, the sunsets. The golf course itself is really pretty as well. The restaurants on the grounds are all pretty good. Ultimately, it's a great place and I would not hesitate to stay here again on future visits! read more

After an early start to catch the sunrise, the wife and I decided on a nice breakfast at Lajita's Golf Resort. Upon checking in with the hostess, we were asked if we were guests at the hotel. I gave an honest response of "no", as I did not feel that we would be turned away due to our research of this place in which we read that they are open to the public until 5pm. Even though there was a restaurant full of empty tables, It was at this time, we were told that since we were not guests of the hotel, we would need to wait so they could cater to hotel guests and golfers as they take a priority to the general public. We decided to leave and take our business elsewhere. read more

A disappointing experience and certainly not worth the exorbitant price. The sink ran only all hot or all cold water from both taps while the shower was lukewarm at best. While we had an abundance of bath towels, there was only one washcloth and one hand towel for two people despite repeated requests for more. The room was uncomfortably laid out with only one chair at a desk which blocked passage to the bathroom. One bed remained unmade while the other needed a footstool to get into making midnight trips to the bathroom very unsafe. And speaking of unsafe, the grounds of the resort are covered with uneven flagstones and loose rocks, guaranteed to trip a senior citizen. The wooden railings are made of raw unvarnished wood - when I grabbed them for balance and to keep from falling I ended up with splinters in my fingers. The bar ran out of bar food due to electrical problems and we were offered half defrosted frozen burgers--we ended up eating dinner in their over-priced dining room. While the staff was friendly and helpful, overall this was an unpleasant and extremely disappointing experience. read more

HORRIBLE. My group and I went hiking in Big Bend. After hiking, we came to enjoy drinks and food at "Lajitas Golf Resort" on a Monday night. @6pm. The location is beautiful, but the staff is foul. "Bryan" met us at the entrance of the restaurant and looked at our group up and down. He did not want us to eat there. He displayed this through his body language and passive-aggressive tone. Weary from our travels, we asked if we could get some drinks and eat elsewhere. He verbally scoffed and went to and asked the bar if we could order drinks. He came back and allowed entrance to the bar but STRESSED, we are not permitted to order any food. He looked at a member of my party and said, "you would kill the kitchen." We ordered some drinks at the bar. The drinks came in copper cups with rust on the outside. The bartender also made it apparent they did not want to serve our group. We watched as several tables were unoccupied with seemingly available seating outside and inside. As we left Bryan said "have fun guys" We responded, "we are going to find food." He said " haha, good luck." (In a sarcastic tone) My entire group of 8 took this as an odd response and laughed between us for his passive-aggressive attitude. I would love to rate this higher as this location is beautiful and has potential. I hope Bryan and the staff can look past the outward appearance of weary hikers as our money very much pays the same. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Lajitas Golf Resort the night of May 1, 2024 and we woke up to water dripping from the ceiling onto the bathroom floor which my wife slipped on. More importantly, there was no privacy curtain on the window next to the door, so anyone can see straight into the room with a direct view to the bed AND the bathroom. I had to hang some cloths over the window for privacy. I notified Macalay at the front desk, who was shocked when I showed her the pictures, and said to email management, which I did. It is now May 5th and no one has called nor responded to my email. Hence the 1-star review. read more

I really enjoyed our two nights at the resort. It has a cozy old western atmosphere. It's not fancy but it really feels like the old west. The golf course next door was fantastic! It has so many different terrains and interesting features. I enjoyed riding in the golf cart as my husband played. The course was not crowded either, which made it even more enjoyable. We had dinner at the hotel and it was fantastic. They have a beautiful view while dining on the patio. After dinner we went to the bar which was also great. They had a local musician which added to the ambiance. The rooms were very reasonably priced. I was definitely go back and also recommend the resort to friends. read more

The food in the restaurants at the resort was all good, I enjoyed my round of golf, and my wife loved her spa treatments. Some might give this place fewer stars if they had our experience, but, I feel that wouldn't be fair to the staff and their efforts to right the situation. Upon arrival, we were somewhat taken back by the condition of the facility. The rustic old western feel is not just a design, but it's a true state of affairs. Wood is creaky, warped, and I initially thought this place had been around a century. The hotel decor is beautiful, and the room on the hotel side was laid out well. As we began to unpack, we found a very large termite on the ceiling. You could see where a previous one had been smashed on the ceiling, but we continued on. Then, there was another on the wall adjacent to our bed. Then, the final straw, was when I found one crawling on my pillow. We immediately packed up, and my husband confronted the front desk with the termite in tow! They found an upgraded room on the other side, where the pool is. We made the change at around 1030pm, and drove over to unpack and investigate the new accommodations. The room was significantly nicer, though, we did find 1 termite crawling along the bathroom floor. Regardless, the efforts the front desk went through to make our stay better is much appreciated. I had just graduated from grad school and had a birthday, and we just wanted an effortless and relaxing retreat from home. They wanted to comp our visit in some way, but booking through Hotels.com made it where they couldn't. At least that was what we were told. Maybe we should have asked for a paddle board voucher! Anyway, the shower was amazing, the water pressure was great and hot, the pool was our own little oasis, and parking was easy. The fitness center never had anyone else in it, and the gift shop had lots of affordable and fun items. The restaurant and bar were also wonderful. We will certainly go back despite our termite experience, because we really want to check out a few of those excursions. If in this area, give this place a try! The Lajitas Golf Resort property is nice. The issue is service! Maybe lack of staff. Maybe lack of training. We played 2 rounds of golf. Over 3 days tried to call the restaurant for reservations or simply to order food 12 times. The restaurant NEVER answered. Finally, after a round of golf we stopped at the hostess desk of the restaurant. We were turned away because we didn't have a reservation. Also, reservations can't be made online. Oh and there were many empty tables. Calling the front desk to ask the time of when the restaurant and pro shop were opened resulted in many calls with no answer. The first day of gold we actually drove to the golf course because there was no answer at the pro shop. Considering the price of this facility I feel like I'm being very generous with the stars. We drove over from Nuevo Terlingua for a late afternoon lunch at the Candelilla Cafe. At first, we planned to eat outside since it was such a pretty day, but there were a lot of bees and wasps around the table, so we asked to move inside. There were four couples present for this meal. Every last one of us had some kind of cactus flavored margarita. I only had one because I was driving. They were really good. I ordered the Spicy Texas Heat burger. It really didn't have much heat to it, but it was a very decent gourmet style burger. It certainly filled me up and definitely hit the spot. When we left the cafe, some of the ladies headed to a store. I went with another couple to look at the brand new ice cream store/bakery, which had only opened three days before. My wife left the other store and couldn't find me. When I told her where I had been, she made me go back with her. Neither of us was hungry, so we got a piece of pie to go. We are about to gang up and over take the kitchen. Now after 90 minutes Morgan the waitress offers to give me an exact amount of time till the meal comes out. My husband booked our room through a third party after looking and selecting what we needed off the website. We wanted the Lajitas lookout because we were traveling with our kids in between camping and it had washer and dryer and bunk beds. Upon our arrival my husband checked in and said we were heading to some cottages. That isn't what we booked. They had us in our room then sold it from under us and put us in another. I went up to sort it out and we were put in another house, the hacienda escondida. Important to note as each house seems different and privately owned that the hotel rents out. So not all the accommodations, view and layout was the same. The front was helpful in trying to sort it out. Mind you these rooms were $700 a night. They claimed we were under charged by the booking site, as if that was our fault, as though we should be grateful for the inconvenience and being to stay there at all. Most unwelcoming home. As soon as we walk in almost everything is marked by the owner as not usable by guest. Signs everywhere. Can't use hot tub, can't use jacuzzi tub, can't use fire place..... but thankfully it had heated floors in bathroom which you will need since you can't even shower and have hot water the whole time. I couldn't use the tv, no remote. When I went to find one in another room the batteries were kept in with tape. Such luxury. We have had better accommodations camping under the stars or in the cheapest motel in terlingua. We won't be staying again. Basing the cost versus what you get. read more

My family and I (six adults total) stayed at Lajitas Golf Resort this past fall for some of my wedding events. It was my second time at the resort, but first time staying in one of the private villas. The biggest villa is a main house that's 2-bedrooms, 2-bathrooms, while the detached cottage has 1-bedroom and bathroom. The property has three outdoor sitting areas that were perched high up and gave excellent vantage points of the desert, golf course, and stars at night. The home was also stocked with kitchenware, games, and WiFi. The staff was super accommodating, even when they were short staffed, and the proximity to Big Bend National Park, Alpine, and activities was convenient. We ate at the main restaurant several times during our four night stay, ordered for their new pizzeria, and definitely partook in the on-site bakery. We also booked fun activities like zip lining, spa treatments, and then relaxed at the pool. This resort and small town are quaint, but exactly everything one could want or need in far out West Texas. read more

Lajitas Golf Resort........absolutely in the "middle of nowhere". This is a great spot to use as a base if you're exploring Big Bend National Park and/or Big Bend State Park. The Resort was nicely designed and is well maintained. Food at the Candelilla Café and the Thirsty Goat Saloon was good and the service quick and efficient. You can't go to a place like this and expect everything to be perfect, as it is in the middle of nowhere; however, the management and staff seem to do a great job of providing a wonderful experience. There's also the small Lajitas General Store, just across the street by the gas pumps. The Store can meet many, but not all of your needs. Stop by the General Store. read more

Lajitas Golf resort is close to both Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Those are both International Dark Sky Parks. All lights in the area are supposed to be shielded ro avoid light pollution that blocks the view of the night sky. Many of the lights strung around the resort aren't shielded at all. They are more for decoration than light anyway. A problem which is easily corrected, and should be. read more

The staff at this location namely Byran was not LGBTQQIP2SAA friendly. It made me uncomfortable. We were but forsaken travelers scorched by the hot sun after our long journey in Big Bend. As we made our way back to our primitive camp. We observed a beautiful oasis amidst the dessert. As we approached the oasis we knew it was not a mirage and our eyes had not been deceived. There stood before us! "Lajitas Resort." As we approached the celestial gates. BRYAN descended upon us, in the form of Cerberus. Cerberus gazed upon us he knew we were not without transgressions. Cerberus eyes lit with Fire! And sealed the gates behind him. Once the gates were sealed behind him he bellowed. "YOU WILL KILL THE KITCHEN IF YOU ORDER FOOD." We wanted to stay some where nice before our baby was born. We really love the big band area but we had not yet stayed at Lajitas. We had such a good time! The staff was so friendly and helpful. At one point it looks like we were going to have to bring our dogs with us and the hotel does accommodate pets. The pool was nice. The room accommodations were great. We did have Wi-Fi in our room and at the restaurants. The room also had Dish TV. We loved this little oasis in the desert! Giving it four stars because of the flies. When we got to our room the first night there were at least 6. We killed them. The second night there were more. No clue where they kept coming from but they were so annoying. read more

I've been here in the past and have had okay service. I honestly thought it was a 5 star resort until this last visit. When I met Bryan and the staff at the restaurant, I suddenly felt a dark cloud upon me. I was looking forward to eating at the restaurant but bryan told me the wait was going to be long. They had plenty of tables available which was confusing. He suggested the Mexican buffet but when I looked inside it gave me nursing home cafeteria vibes. He rudely stated I could drink at the bar but that I could not order food because I would kill the kitchen. I ended up having a drink which was delicious but couldn't fully enjoy it after the encounter with the employees. After reading the reviews on this resort and restaurant, I'm glad my party decided to eat elsewhere because other reviews mentioned waiting 1.5 hours for their food. Unacceptable. Chick-fil-a employees treat you better than this. The employees at the pizza/ice cream shop saved the day with positive attitudes and great customer service. read more

Terrible treatment. I came here after hiking and was starving, I was looking forward to a nice meal after a long day. And then I met Bryan. Unfortunately, Bryan, an employee at the resort, "greeted" me in a very rude and unpleasant way. He told me that I could maybe go to the bar and order drinks but I definitely could not order any food since there were no tables. I went inside and noticed several unoccupied tables, I stayed for about 30 minutes and the tables were still unoccupied, this would have been plenty of time for me to order food and leave. it was made clear, by the treatment of Bryan and the Barista, that they did not want me there. He also muttered some snarky comments to me as I was leaving, completely uncalled for as I did not say or do anything to deserve that. Had it not been for the horrible manners of the staff, I would have considered staying at this beautiful resort in the future. read more

Ready for some R&R?! Rest and relaxation. Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa resides in an area of history and meaning. This resort is about 1.5 hours away from Alpine and probably another 2.5 hours from Midland/Odessa from what I remember. My first impression of the resort was fantastic with the rustic Texas charm. I was blown away actually, especially with the mountains, wild life, the scenery, etc. Lajitas offers 101 rooms, with unique features and accomodations according to what area of the resort you are in. Lajitas has quite a lot of resort activities since it kind of is in the middle of no where! -Horseback riding -Mountain biking -River rafting -ATV trips -Helicopter rides -Golf at Black Jack's Crossing -Hunting/Shooting -Tours -Birding -Zip lining (Supposed to open Labor Day weekend when I was there but they are running safety tests - unknown date of when it will start) -Stargazer Mesa -Agave Spa -Much more, just ask the front desk for anything. Ladies, I would recommend flat shoes or comfortable wedges if you would like to walk around. Gravel here is not the best for heels. I must say the golf course is absolutely spectacular. They have maintained such a great job with the area, even after the flood several years ago. I had the experience to drive through all 18-holes and was amazed except with the 18th hole. Thankfully, the golf carts have automatic brake systems for the highs, lows, and crazy turns on your golf adventure. The view of the Rio Grande River was gorgeous too... you're like 200 yards away from the border! I saw several greater roadrunners and quail while exploring Black Jack's crossing. Candelilla Cafe and Thirsty Goat Saloon were decent, really the only places you can walk to for food and drinks. Workers are always relatively new, especially in this resort because it really is a commitment to work. I met a sweet lady who was just on her second day, who drastically improved the proceeding days I saw her. I had lunch and dinner here some days during my stay, and the downside is the one menu they have. The menu does not change between the bar and restaurant. By the way, I found a piece of hair in my trio salad for lunch and completely lost my appetite. Food is decent. I'd recommend having dinner in the saloon because live music at night. If you are looking for alternatives, you have to drive out to other places such as Terlingua Ghost Town. Stargazer Mesa was definitely a treat. The night skies are so clear and perfect for a unique dining experience among the stars. You ride a hay wagon to the destination! Perfect for all ages. Agave Spa is located next to the Bakery and across Flat Rock Theater Company. Agave Spa has a variety of massages, body, and facial treatments. There was a glitch in the system or miscommunication because the email I received stated an appointment at 10:00 AM, confirmed by a lady via phone. Once I got to the spa, the lady stated my appointment time was at 12:00 PM instead. She apologized and gave me a 10% discount, but the fact that happened threw my day schedule off. I made an appointment prior for the Desert Escape package which includes foot bath, aromatherapy massage, and agave facial. I recommend the desert package or agave facial. Facial was superb. Room service/cleaning was not the greatest. We entered the La Cuesta suite with a missing trashcan, which we got the next day. In addition, we didn't get clean towels one day. It's just those small perks that could have alleviated my time here. Overall, it was "a-ok" for me. The place is beautiful, but the service doesn't match that high quality resort for me. I'd stay here again though if I do come back for Terlingua's Chili Cook-off in November one year. read more

Looks like a beautiful property but we have yet to be able to see it. Have tried booking it countless times online. Does not work. Sent emails requesting to book and never received a response. Called numerous times and on three occasions received 3 different rates within the hour for the same room. Over $400 for a place with no internet, elevator, and worn linens. What kind of a place is this? It appears to be lousy business practices which will no doubt trickle down to lousy customer service and cleanliness. We will pass. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced -- during the stay, service was certainly lacking (to say the least: for example, we waited over an hour and a half for food to go only to check in at the restaurant to see they'd forgotten about our order) but since checking out it's been unfathomably awful. I left a pair of expensive headphones in my room upon checking out and my husband forgot a few things in the closet (our fault, I know). We realized almost immediately and called the hotel who helpfully promised to ship us the items at our cost. Unfortunately, a couple days later we received the clothes but no headphones. I've called at least 30 times and every person I've spoken to - after sounding utterly confused every time (despite speaking to the same people multiple times about the same issue) - tells me the same thing - they'll call their "shipping department" and call me back before I hear nothing further from them. I can track the decide and see it's still at the hotel. Not sure if everyone working is incompetent, doesn't care, or the product has been stolen. In any event, terrible service. Otherwise, the shooting activity was fun but I would not recommend the hotel. The food is barely edible, the service sucks, and the beds are like cardboard. read more

We stayed at the resort over spring break, had a beautiful room with a great view. (We do not golf and did not do spa) Did zip line, river tour and horseback trail rides. All activities were wonderful. Staff in the hotel were friendly and eager to help. Especially the activities desk, they really go out of their way to help you with information. Easy to get to the state park and Big Bend National Park. The only concern was the restaurant, Candelilla the food was not so great. They were out of the salmon so they recommended the halibut. The rice was crunchy. They did offer buffets during the week which was a great way to have large groups and families. The setup was nice and easy, and the staff in the buffet was very attentive and helpful! The tex mex buffet night was delicious but the italian buffet night was not good -- did not like the vegetables, the risotto or the chicken picatta, only good dish that night was the meatball/pasta dish with red sauce. So we did not do anymore of the buffets. read more

We arrived today and our room was certainly underwhelming for the resort prices they charge here. The towels are thin and rough, and the room has a bad odor. The room is also not very clean. We ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was overpriced for the average quality received. Most disappointing was the complete lack of service at the restaurant. We had to ask to be waited on and the servers were very unprofessional. I was asked to provide a credit card so I didn't walk out without paying. I wish that was a joke but it wasn't. No one else in our vicinity was asked to secure their food with a credit card. Racism? Perhaps. For my money, I'll go somewhere else next time and spare us the stress of such situations. read more

I returned a couple weeks ago from a nice 3-night stay at Lajitas Golf Resort. Our stay was fine, unremarkable in any memorable way, except for the beautiful setting right outside Big Bend State Park. My party of four decided to stay in Lajitas, because of its proximity to two parts of Big Bend National Park we intended to visit during our stay--Santa Elena Canyon (about an hour from Lajitas) and Lost Mine Trail (also about an hour from Lajitas). I don't think there are better accommodations within this distance to the park, so we snapped up two rooms at $459/night, each. I don't think its fair to assign a rating based on where Lajitas stands locally, so my rating is based on how I perceive the value of Lajitas to be relative to other resorts in its price range anywhere. Candidly, on this basis alone, three stars is pretty generous. Let's start with the rooms. Our and our guests' room were more than adequate. Each featured a sitting area off the main room, with two nice sitting chairs--right off the veranda. The bed and linens were comfortable , but the bed was not "double sheeted" that bothered us. The decor was dated, the tv was too small by today's standards, and the bathroom was likewise dated, small, and lacking a bathtub. That being said, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The lobby and the grounds (which includes a "bakery", a general store, a cantina and restaurant are western themed, which was fine. Perhaps a little too western--kind of like a western movie set. The grounds offers beautiful scenery in the distance, and we had a small lake out in front of the building housing our rooms. The restaurant served a middling breakfast and average dinner, but the servers and overall service was top notch. The same desserts, chocolate lava cake and pecan pie are served nightly. Buffets are available at breakfast and dinner. Very "banquet style", truly not what you might expect from a $459/nt resort. Cold cuisine served in a chafing dish. The atmosphere is comfortable with beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing a phenomenal view to the mountains in the distance and a covered patio and lawn area. Overall, I would recommend Lajitas Golf Resort as the ideal location to access Big Bend National Park. Perhaps its only competition may be Cibolo Creek Ranch which, more upscale, is far too far to make day trips into the most popular portions of Big Bend NP. Lajitas' proximity to Terlingua is a plus, too. It's about a 20 minute drive to Terlingua and if you're looking for more (and better) dining options, you may find yourself making the trek there occasionally. A final note, remote as Lajitas is--and Big Bend NP even more so, I highly encourage spending a few nights at Lajitas despite its shortcomings, if for no other reason than to take in some breathtaking hikes and to experience the grandeur of Big Bend. It is well worth the effort to get to Lajitas from where ever you're coming from for these reasons. Giddy-up! read more

Beautiful scenery, very good restaurant, and challenging golf course. But, it was concerning that the building we stayed in had wooden stairways and no sprinklers. The building seemed to be made of wood. From the second floor there was no enclosed metal or concrete stairway for a fire exit. It makes me wonder if the building meets current fire safety codes. I would have liked to have known if it didn't in advance. read more
