**This is a 3.5 star review.** This place is really close to being off the grid, but there are just enough amenities to keep you comfy. It's also a fantastic place to take photos of the stars. The staff: Wonderful! Everyone I encountered made me feel like a million bucks. I encourage you to ask them how they ended up here, because their stories are wonderful. The room: We stayed in #28, which was close to everything, including the laundry, office and restaurant. I liked the convenience, but would've preferred a room a few hundred yards away so that I didn't have to dodge generators and power lines for my nightly photo shoots of the galaxy. -- The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were clean. Question though: Why would you put a refrigerator in the room and not a TV or microwave? Additional amenities: There is laundry here, as well as ice, snacks and a few essentials available at the HQ. Other comments: One other reviewer complained that this place wasn't close to Terlingua and listed Alpine on the GPS. He's right and he's wrong. First, it's called Terlingua Ranch Lodge, and it has a Terlingua postal address. Secondly, 40 miles is nothing to these folks. I talked to someone at the desk whose daughter attends public school in Terlingua and takes a 45-minute bus ride every morning. Finally, my GPS also says Alpine, despite that Alpine is 70 miles up the road. GPS also misspelled my last home address. So what! Nothing is close here! It's SW Texas, for crying out loud. -- I would highly recommend renting a car or SUV to visit this place as the last few miles of the trip on the ranch road is covered in loose rock. I experienced one window chip, and I'm pretty sure that there are some dents on the undercarriage. Thank goodness my credit card includes insurance on rental cars. And thank goodness someone advised me not to take my own car. Finally, though I highly recommend this place, I think they suffer from an identity crisis. On one hand, I can pretty much buy anything I need at the office; eat what I want at the restaurant; do my laundry; get decent internet access; take a hot shower, and set the room temperature to a comfortable 72 degrees to sleep on a nice mattress. This place obviously doesn't want to be known as "off the grid," so why not put TVs in the rooms and a microwave and coffee maker? Either way, I would certainly stay here again. read more

A nice rustic and pup friendly place to stay if you are visiting the Big Bend National Park or state park. The cabins/rooms are clean with the basic necessities... no frills. They have a nice pool onsite along with a great little restaurant serving up meals all day. Everyone on staff we encountered was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Be ready to disconnect or bring a good book, WiFi is spotty which is totally fine if you are out here in the first place (no cell service) we enjoyed ourselves! read more

If you are the type that likes to get away from the big city and semi off the grid, this is the place for you. This was a lodge cabin that my family has booked with a few times now and have had a good experience every time. The people we checked in with were very nice and made sure to let us know who to contact or go to if needed. You could buy souvenirs there too if you want. The place can be pricy to rent but I think it is worth it if you like solitude and camping. They also have a restaurant in walking distance called 'Bad Rabbit Cafe' that had decent lunch and good coffee you can grab in the morning. Being out where you can actually see stars and observe some wild animals was the best part. The cabin itself was very cozy. They have a binder with good information on places around and numbers incase you need assistance. It had a heater you could use to beat the cold and came with a mini fridge to put your stuff in. The shower/bathroom was a good size, and the water got nice and hot very quickly. You do have neighbors, and the walls are somewhat thin, so be aware of that. You do have your own little deck you can sit outside and just enjoy the view. Be aware, even though they do have wifi, it's not really the greatest (you are somewhat far from town), but in the restaurant, I was able to get connection easy. I would absolutely recommend coming here for anyone interested in camping or visiting the Big Bend National Park. If you do come here, make sure you have a vehicle that can handle dirt roads as there are paths out here you will take off road. read more

If you're staying here thinking you're staying in Terlingua proper, you're not. It's an hour drive to the "center" of Terlingua. And actually when we put the Lodge's address into GPS it gave us an Alpine address. So the name is misleading. If you're using this as a base camp for visiting Big Bend, it's about an hour and half to Panther Junction. Add an additional 20 minutes to the drive times given by Google Maps, the last three miles are probably the worst gravel road I've ever encountered (big rocks, washboard and washouts). So if you have a nice car or would rather not have to pay for a new front-end alignment, I'd avoid this place. We had a two night reservation here, but didn't return for the second night solely because of the road. Other than that, the place is pretty plain-jane. And noisy, our cabin was a four-plex and the neighbors were up early to get to Big Bend. There's spotty cell service here and we could never connect to the wifi. If you want an escape from daily life , this is a nice quiet spot to come to. No cell phone service but WiFi. Nothing beats hanging at the Chihuahuan desert. We stayed in the cabins. There is also RV parking. The cabins have a small dorm size fridge , no kitchen. The bad rabbit cafe is open for all three meals and on weekend evenings there is musical entertainment. There is an airstrip if you prefer to come in your plane. Otherwise the last 3 miles to get to the ranch are unpaved and a bit bumpy and you are asked to go ( sign says 25mph) read more

Just a fair warning to anyone who stays here, I initially stayed in room 41 and when I arrived here I was welcomed by a bed full of bugs. Both beds in our lodge were covered in them! They were also crawling all over the walls. I had to stay with a friend who was a few lodges down for the night. The next day I called and explained the situation, I was offered another lodge but I did not receive any form of apology. The second lodge I received was bug free but had zero hot water. My friends that stayed a few lodges down from me had no issues with theirs so it must've been luck of the draw but just wanted to share my experience so others can be wary of what to expect. read more

On the plus side the room was clean, staff friendly and polite, a very quiet location and there is a restaurant on site with good food. Nothing is fancy about the establishment, but that's okay since it used to be a ranch. However, on the negative side, if you're in the area to spend a few days visiting Big Bend National Park, it's not convenient. It's approximately 20 miles from the park entrance to the ranch road and another 16 miles off the main highway back to the ranch. The rooms are clean with AC, but very basic. If you're looking to spend a few days at the ranch just relaxing and hanging out and not looking for anything fancy this is it. However, if you're primarily in the area to visit the park find something actually in Terlingua rather than spend 45-60 minutes getting to and/or returning to your lodging. read more

I first stayed here in 2018 with my late wife and fell in love with the resort. I returned in March 2023 and it was as nice as I remembered. There's no phone, TV, and very limited Wi-Fi service which is a big plus in this day and age. The on-site restaurant has a limited menu but it's all top notch. After dark, get out your binoculars, sit on your porch and enjoy the best view of the night sky in the lower 48. My girlfriend and I are planning on returning next summer and bringing her daughter and daughter-in-law. read more

I booked one night here for New Year's Eve as a pass thru on the way to California from Houston. I came into town around dinner time, and needed to get food before finding the property, which 45+ minutes from town. I called the property several times to find late checkin instructions, and even left a message. They did not return my call, and google maps said they were closed. I assumed I wasn't going to have a place to stay, so I drove on to Alpine to stay at the Hampton Inn. I complained to Expedia either that night or the next morning, and filed a claim with Expedia. Expedia slow rolled it, and then said the lodge denied the claim. I even bought insurance for the booking, and Expedia throws me over to AIG, which is another layer of nonsense. Don't book in Terlingua Ranch Lodge. Don't use Expedia. Don't bother with 'Expedia insurance'. Use hotels.com or whatever, but these guys are just here to take your money and do zero beyond that. Big Bend is always beautiful. I'm sure there are other places that won't just rip you off for wanting to see it. read more

We selected this sight unseen and unfamiliar with the area for our Big Bend stay, and we could not have been more pleased. Clean rooms and incredible views. They have a cafe on the premises but it is not open Sunday and Monday so plan accordingly. Good restaurants in Terlingua or there is a small fridge to bring your own food. read more

Went to stay at Terlingua Ranch ait is adjacent to Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Parks, both International Dark Sky Parks. The night sky was amazing. The Milky Way, shooting stars, so close it seemed you could reach up and touch them. The cabins are simple, but clean. The Bad Rabbit Cafe isn't fancy, but the food will fill you up. Two caveats: First, ranch is more than fifteen miles off of the state highway, down a road which is paved only part of the way. Second, it is literally miles from anywhere, including Ternigua. And emergency help is more than 45 minutes away. Cell service is iffy to non-existent. So if you don't like driving down dirt roads that can be rough in places, or need to be near any services, including EMS, then Terlingua Ranch isn't the place for you. But it's worth the long drive to reach it. You'll see the Big Bend as it was meant to be seen. read more

All the staff was so friendly and helpfu! Our cabin was very clean upon arrival. The cabin was perfect for what our family needed, beds and air conditioning. Please note these cabins aren't new and fancy. We had a wonderful breakfast at Bad Rabbit Cafe. The only downside is the long trip to Big Bend, we were driving about an hour and a half to get to specific trails. However the stars and peacefulness were perfect at night! read more

From the 1st phone call to book our site, to check in, to our entire trip he went way above and beyond for us and everyone who was staying there or passing through. He even watched our bags for us while we were out at Big Bend hiking the days away. The pool is cold and refreshing, the showers are warm and good pressure and the Bad Rabbit cafe was definitely one of my wife's favorite parts of the trip. First, make sure to bring your monster truck here! The dirt road is no joke and the potholes are awful/hard to avoid. So to be fair, maybe I had a particularly bad first impression. I drove to my cabin and the first thing I saw was a large group of men around a campfire being loud and our cabin neighbor's pickup truck with a CONFEDERATE flag on it. He was spitting on the ground in his wifebeater. Our other neighbors were hanging out next to their doors and giving us weird stares as we got into the room. Wifi didn't work in our cabin so we had to drive to the office to get internet access. We went to bed early and left as soon as we could to avoid running into our confederate neighbors. If you want a truly authentic Texan experience maybe this is your place but you can get lodges/motels far closer to the park at a lower price or a nice hotel in Alpine with similar driving time (since you don't need to go on the dirt road). Fun one time experience but I'd never return here. read more

First time staying in Big Bend area and wife picked here. The Ranch is way off the beaten path but for good reason. It's at the base of the mountain range which is beautiful at sunrise and sunset but best of all is that this area is a no noise pollution area which means you can see millions of stars and it's just amazing. This lodge fires on all cylinders except one. They have nice cabins that are far enough apart that your neighbors aren't up in your business, they have a great restaurant on site, the dark skies are AWESOME, and there are animals - we saw javelina wandering between cabins. The distance from town turned out to be not a big deal. 45 miles sounds like a big deal on the web, but once you're in west Texas, 45 miles is nothing. The only issue I had, was that there were no coffee makers in the cabins. It would have been nice to make a cup of coffee and sit out and watch the sun come up. Other than that, this place was awesome. I will be staying here the next time I come out to Big Bend. read more

Howdy pardnahs. We stayed 3 days at the ranch and it was an experience. It was a little unsettling at first taking the 16 mile trip off 118 - 3 miles on dirt road at the end. The cabins are plain and rustic - don't expect Hilton Garden. But homey and quiet. The chairs outside on the deck are great to chill or see the stars. Beds comfortable enough. Wifi is sucky - seriously upgrade it if you want digital nomads to be happy. Staff was okay - there was a 100 year old security guy who helped us get back into the room. Being at the lodge was a once in a lifetime experience to see Big Bend and its environs. So different than the woke, city slicker techt place I live in (SF Bay area) read more

We just finished our stay here and absolutely loved it! The ranch was beautiful, clean and fun! The staff was extremely helpful, especially Bill at the front. They gave us great hike recommendations and were welcoming. While we stayed there the was a live band (so fun!!!) it was a bit of a drive to Big Bend (about 30 miles) but definitely worth it! If you want to canoe the Rio Grande, explore the deserty mountain delights of West Texas, and get a feel for true rural living, take a little trip to Terlingua Ranch Resort. Referred to as "the ranch" by locals, the pool at the resort is a hoppin' spot for tourists and residents alike. Between the dry heat and the rugged terrain, this is one place that stands out as an oasis in a sea of dirt roads and pickup trucks. You'll be staying in a little cabin, fairly outdated, but the window A/C units do the trick to cool you down. The beauty of this place is its remote, 16-miles-off-the-highway location coupled with the jaw-dropping scenery. A friend and I came here during a West Texas road trip that began in Ft Davis/ Marfa, and ended with us in Terlingua. We went canoeing and hiking along the Rio Grande and LOVED it. There is hardly any cell signal in these parts, so don't expect to be tweeting and Yelping throughout your trip (but, of course, that made it even more fun and adventure-y)... One word of warning: flash floods are the real deal here. Do NOT attempt to drive on the rough roads post-rain unless you have a tough SUV or truck. We made that mistake and ended up stuck, in the desert, in the dark, in the mud, with no cell phone signal. But, all in all, I absolutely recommend staying here. It's just OK. Many lodgings near national parks are kind of rustic/shabby but for the money (~$100/night) the resort could be trying a little harder. Important to know ahead of time: Quite far from the park. Almost 40 miles, 16 of those off the highway. It'll take you an hour. The office closes at 5 pm so if you arrive late you have no one to help resolve any issues. Dated rooms and furnishings. No TV, coffee maker or fridges etc. Unlike regular motels they don't clean up rooms, change sheets etc unless you ask for it. Bathroom was obviously not cleaned after previous guest. It's not all bad - the restaurant is pretty good and the area is beautiful. What can you do. It is way off the beaten path and there isn't much else around. Try Air Bnb first. read more

This was a wonderful place to rest our tired bodies after a long day of site seeing at Big Bend. The price was excellent and the cabins are very roomy. There is a restaurant on site that was so charming and the food was excellent. The people at the restaurant were so friendly. The cook even came out to talk to us. We spent the evening sitting in the front porch watching the night sky. The cabins do not have a tv or a phone but you don't need it when you have the night sky to watch. It takes a while to get there from the road but it is well worth it! read more

If you really want to get away to disconnect and not hear any sounds of modern civilization this is the place. The ranch is located 16 miles from the nearest main road and the main road is 35 miles to Big Bend one way and about 62 miles to Alpine the other. Limited cell reception on the drive, no cell at the ranch. The ranch does have wifi that can be utilized to make internet calls. The last 3 miles of road is dirt and rough with washboard ripples most of the way. We literally drove 5 mph in and slower out after realizing the road had shaken a pin loose on our tow trailer. Management is great, and the people are very friendly at the ranch and the area. We got in the habit of waving at every car after a short time. :) read more

My husband and I just stayed at the Terlingua Ranch and LOVED it. I would highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Big Bend. The accommodations were nice with free WiFi. Pet friendly although we didn't bring our dogs. Very clean cabins. The man who runs the place gave us a hand drawn map and gave us suggestions on places to visit in the park. Seriously in the middle of nowhere. I mean 16 miles of paved road off the main highway and then another 3 miles on gravel. But what a find! The RV sites are not on top of each other. We stayed upper level, full hookups. So-the WiFi is fast and we could connect from our site without any issues. There's a pool-yeah-that's right! A pool in the middle of the desert. It was cold and refreshing and clean. There are showers. The restaurant is The Bad Rabbit Cafe and it is open for all three meals and is great. Oh-I forgot, I'm writing this review from the laundromat. It is clean. $2 a load. Hot water and filters into the machines. Dryers are the large commercial size, .25 cents for 8 minutes but they dry fast and you could get 2 loads of wash in one dryer. Yes-it's a long haul to the parks or ghost town, but way better than the roadside gravel RV parking lots. Staff is awesome, polite, and I'd stay here again and recommend it to anyone. read more

If you're dusty and tired from a day in Big Bend, keep driving down 118 until you see a sign for Terlingua Ranch. Follow the sign and enjoy the sunset as you pass fewer homes and more hills. You'll hit a 3 mile stretch of gravel road, but keep going. As you roll into the Ranch, wind your way to Judy's Bad Rabbit Cafe. They might be 10 minutes away from closing but they'll tell you it's not a problem and to come in for a bite. They'll even tell you it'll be some of the best food you'll ever have. "There's no reason food should be this good," Nina managed to say through her veggie burger. "This is stupid good." Stupid good. Truer words. Nicely kept rooms, each with its own porch and bathroom. We got up early feeling tired, happy and pleasantly sore ready to take in the sunrise and coffee. We were satisfied but didn't realize all of that would come with a run in with a wild hog...followed by 15 other wild hogs. They seemed unafraid of humans and felt comfortable rummaging the prickly pear near our room. We got some excellent footage! Don't be afraid to check out this side of Terlingua. You'll meet some pretty wonderful people and enjoy some stupidly fantastic food! read more

This was an awesome camping spit. A little far from the actual park but it offered a lot of great amenities. The drive to the park was beautiful so we didn't mind it. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and well heated. The fire rings were great and the cafe had live music and cheap beer. Created a great community feel. read more

If quiet calm and gorgeous sights is what you seek, then Terlingua Ranch is where you should be. With no cell service, you'll be cut off from everyone, allowing you to enjoy pure serenity throughout your stay. Although the sunrise and sunset is slightly obsured by mountains all around, the gorgeous clouds will take your breath away as you sit on your cabin's porch. When your tummy starts to rumble, stroll down the hill to Judy's Bad Rabbit Cafe for delicious coffee and tasty treats, cookied up by Judy herself. Be prepared to do nothing and relax, because there isn't anything to do for miles around. Or, conveniently hop on over to Big Bend National Park, just about 45 minutes away. read more

You will love Bill. The Bad Rabbit Cafe is staffed by very pleasant wait staff. The resort's maintenance staff, led by Jerry, are great guys. They helped us out when our rented trailer developed problems. They were knowledgeable, persistent in seeking a solution, and damn nice fellas. The resort is a good venue although the 3 mile stretch of unpaved road is a little annoying. I recommend Terlingua Ranch Lodge Resort. I almost welcome a maintenance problem just to meet up with Jerry and his crew again. Almost, but not quite! read more

Interesting experience. On way to Big Bend National Park and wanted to be as close as possible to make the most of the next day in the Park. Cell service was very spotty as we drove along and finding a place over the Internet was tough. Only place with available room was Terlingua Ranch Lodge but as reservation was being requested, all cell service ended before we could get a confirmation. Flying blind we saw a sign for the lodge and turned off to find it was 16 miles off the highway, the last three unpaved. We found everything locked up in the office but the gentleman in the security office checked us in without knowing whether we had a reservation or not as they luckily did have a room available. Rooms are in cottages with four rooms to a building. Great views of surrounding mountains and mule deer and javelinas strolling through around dusk. Rooms were Spartan but clean. No TV or phone and no cell service yet although we did see a new cell tower being constructed back near the highway. Billions of stars in the night sky. First time I'd seen the Milky Way in years. read more

I got married on the ranch last year and we had our reception at the Bad Rabbit Cafe. They helped us decorate the patio, and were really REALLY accomodating. We booked up every available room, and ran them ragged! They catered brisket and sausage, with all the sides, etc. It was a lot of fun, and the folks who run the retreat are all wonderful. Before and after the event, we stayed in one of their rooms. The cafe food is way better than you expect it to be that far off the beaten path, and the rooms are clean, quiet, and have wonderful views. My husband and I are going back for our first anniversary, and I'm so excited to chill on the porch taking in the great views, and letting my soul rest. I may even get a chance to swim in the pool this time!! (It's a gorgeous pool, and over the last two visits we've made out there, I've never gotten to take a dip. It's time.) 40 miles from the nearest store, no fridge, no coffee pot. If you are looking for out of the way, It's just that. We thought we were getting cabins but very mislead. Looks like a compound with modular units that have 4 quarters to each unit. Was very disappointed. I wouldnt call it a ranch, but hunting grounds. Smelled like hunters quarters. Was definately quiet. Only good thing about our 3 day stay there. There are more places to stay closer to the National Park on farther down the road. read more
