My wife and I went here for our anniversary weekend and we had a great time. The dorms were very spacious and clean. They were located in a great area for sky viewing and had a nice fireplace. It was dry when we went, but i could see some flooding on the path there if it stormed. The toilet and shower areas were also very clean and well maintained. The only suggestions we would make is for the facility to better mark the dorms locations for dorms 3-6. And for our next trip we will definitely bring starter logs for the fire. We got a fire started the first night (after 45 minute), and weren't able to get one started the second night. There are some nice trails to walk and a great view from the Summit, although a 4x4 is needed to get to the top. Great trip, will definitely do again.

We stayed Easter Weekend in Casa De Sol (the smaller house underneath the bigger one, on the mountain) We LOVED it. My husband was unsure about the domes (this was before they had one with a bathroom) and so it was the perfect fit for us. The only thing we didn't love was that it adds about 20 minutes to your drive to Big Bend (which is already about 45 minutes). We had a fridge, shower, and coffee maker. There was a seating area with a couch that we propped our computer on to watch some tv shows. The views are spectacular and we loved the hammocks. The town of Terlingua was so charming and filled with people that were nothing but friendly and kind. We loved it!

Glamping at its best! Do your research. Plan ahead. If you're going with friends request to be near each other when you book. Otherwise you're SOL, once they've given you your tent that's it. There are 2 "communities" and each has their own bathroom/shower and outdoor kitchen area. It's very outdoorsy. The domes don't have bathrooms. They're shared. And not exactly close, about 20 feet? The property is huge! Explore it! There are fun caves, drive to the top! The views are incredible and you'll pass the room caves- so cool! It's @ 30 min from Terlingua and it gets dark fast once the sun goes down. Try and check in before it gets dark so you're comfortable with your surroundings and can find the toilet! The domes have a strong smell so bring a candle! The sofa pulls out, not the coziest but great for kids! The coffee sucks- bring your own coffee pods! Also bring your own firewood! they provide some by the bathrooms but people grab it fast!

This is a trip that I can recommend to any outdoor enthusiast. "Life on Mars" is what my kids called this place. This was our first glamping and we were not disappointed. Communication with the managers of the Summit is seamless via text. The dome was perfect for the four of us: beautiful, clean and spacious enough. My favorite time was the night hours by the fire, under the most perfect and beautiful blanket of stars. The bed was super comfortable and so was the fold out couch. The sink inside the tent comes in handy but the water pressure is very low and the faucet is placed too close the edge of the bowl which makes it for a difficult water using experience. We stayed there on a weekend and surprisingly, even though we were in the middle of nowhere, the next door neighbors played music all night and started again next morning. I may assume this is a regular occurrence because there were complimentary ear plugs. We brought plenty of food and drinks. There's a fridge to keep perishables. Fortunately we also brought an electric tea kettle and a gallon of water to make our caffeinated drinks (the tiny K-cup style coffee maker and somewhat poor assortment of coffee, tea and creamer would not have satisfied the caffeine needs we had hahaha!). After all said and done the balance was greatly positive, the experience unique and created memories we will share as a family forever.

Love this place that sits on a large private area away from the city, when the night comes you can sit outside and start the fire and star gaze. There are different accommodation choices. I had the lotus which is very large interior, has its own little sink and couch, very comfortable space, you can lower the top to see stars if you wish but better view to see from outside. There's no bathroom but it's steps away, only be cautious in the evening because there are wild life walking around. The bathroom is very clean and never busy. Shower has great water pressure and they provide shampoo, conditioner and shower gels The domes ar also good choice but they are a little smaller than lotus. If you are a large family, take the cave that has better view on the higher place more private.

What it has: Mini refrigerator with 2 Bud Light and 2 bottles of water Kurig coffee Shampoo, conditioner, body wash Bath towels Hand towels Black make up towels King size bed with sheets and comforter Pillows Throw blanket Two chairs in room Two chair outside by fire pit Two copper cups Corkscrew Grill with grill utensils and propane. There is no storage at all. Whatever you bring basically stays in the suitcase, backpack or box you brought it in. There are a few outlets but no usb portals. No dishes or utensils (except the 2 copper cups). *firewood for purchase at $20 a bundle from The Summit (small bundle) or purchase from the local grocery store for approximately $15 Pizza and bbq is a 15 minute or less drive away from the cave. A grocery store with basics is also nearby in Terlingua. The view of the stars is AMAZING ! The location is very private . My husband and I absolutely LOVED our stay in the cave. We both had trouble finding information specifically on what to expect in the cave so I wanted to leave this review for others. Reservations for the caves are usually booked far in advance. Book now for a seriously unique and spectacular experience!

Nothing but loose gravel and stairs that are useless!

We stay in Dome #29. The domes itself was as advertise and very nice. If you have any mobility problem this not a place for you. The ground is nothing but loose gravel and makes walking up or down very hard. I guess you could request a Dome you could drive up to and close to the bathrooms and you would be OK. Also check your total and look at the extra fees. They can really run up your bill.

Had the BEST time! 10/10 would recommend! Roomy. Clean. Close to shower house and bathrooms! It is better than you imagine. Loved Dome #4!

The cave at night - beautiful

Wow! What a wonderful experience - we stayed at the cave the first night, was welcoming and comfortable and nearly ready. Also had complementary wine and snacks - didn't expect that. It was def great. The ac worked amazing the WiFi was good the scenery, i wish i had booked two nights. The dome was also very nice, and neat (no complimentary wine or snacks, lol but that's okay) and the restrooms and showers were cleaned and neat. The internet worked great but better outside the dome at your fire pit. My ONLY complain about the summit is 2 things, 1. The domes are new so they give out a smell/scent from the plastic that gives a bit of a headache for the first couple of hours inside of them. 2. I stayed in Dome 5 and i noticed a lot of them are facing the wrong way, towards the mountain or hill or another dome and not getting that west sunset. Although, i left a couple of vinyl records in the dome upon check out, and went into ghost town, realizing omg i needed to go back and get them. And as we realized they were nice to let us know they found them - fast to respond we let them know we realized it too and were heading back. House keeping held on to them for us and met up with us to pick them up! Excellent venue, great bedding and comfortable it was just an overall awesome! Thank you!

My wife and I had a great time here at The Summit. Being a first time glamping, I would have to say this place beat my expectations. The Dome was very nice- clean, decorated very nicely, bed was comfy, stargazing window on top wasn't as big as I thought but still allowed us to view a few stars. The restrooms were very clean and showers were pretty clean and fancy (for being in an outdoor facility. And not to forget, the cool Summit stickers are nice little gestures to take home.

What an amazing place to stay! First of all, for those that have never visited Terlingua need to. It's such a beautiful place and so close to Big Bend. The Summit is about 10-15 minutes outside of the Terlingua Ghostown which has all the restaurants and shops to see. The Summit itself is an experience for all ages, families, or couple getaways. Or even for a solo trip if desired. It truly is so peaceful and tranquil. I have stayed in both the bubbles and lotus tents and enjoyed each one equally. Keep in mind that restrooms and showers are detached but this wasn't an issue for us. Each campsite comes with its own fireplace and parking spots. Please put this on your to do list!

Ask the Community - The Summit at Big Bend

What do the bathrooms look like for those not staying in the cave room?

The bathrooms are centrally located around 5 or 6 domes. They are outdoor type like you find in most campgrounds. The showers had very low-pressure warm water. The toilet where clean and located on the other side of the building. Sinks where on one… Read more
