The desserts, in particular, are disappointing--my tiramisu lacked depth and had a gross refrigerator taste. The service is average at best. It takes forever for anyone to take your order, and there is zero follow up throughout the meal. If you're looking for great social media pictures, Tipu Sultan fits the bill. However, for truly fresh food with complex flavors, Shere Khan's is where it's at.

I don't eat halal food but this has never stopped me from dining at halal restaurants with friends…read morewho do. Generally, most of these restaurants have catered well for vegetarians so I've just opted for that. However, Lahore Karahi disappointed me. It's more of a fast-food diner than restaurant. And that isn't just a reflection of their tacky decor but also the greasy fast food that is ready in minutes. And their menu has little to offer vegetarians other than chips, which are actually thin, greasy fries. Don't expect comfortable seating. The chairs are plastic and tables have seen better days. Although the restaurant seems to be doing well considering its open all hours (or at least whenever I've passed!) and it's usually bustling with diners. However this could be because they're open till late and offer cheap, fast food. I went once but won't be going again.
For great value and fantastic quality Pakistani cuisine, it doesn't get much better than this…read more Located on the border of Moseley and Balsall Heath, Lahore is a spacious, modestly decorated restaurant and takeaway offering a wide range of both meat and vegetarian dishes of varying hotness. The absolute best thing about Lahore is that it offers an 'all you can eat' deal for a little over £7 that incorporates all the main dishes plus sundries and naan bread. Drinks are extra, and I can personally recommend the mango lassi as a perfect palate-cooler after you've enjoyed some of the spicy treats on offer. Strongly recommended, it's definitely worth the trip. The only downside is that it can be a little tricky to find somewhere to park. If you can walk it, do so.

It's located opposite a a petrol station where you buy booze, so the two compliment each other nicely. Inside you'll find some large arty prints of New York and London and of course a tv playing Bollywood music videos and Indian soap operas. I often test the patience of the chaps there by entering just before they close, and only seen the slightest hint of resentment. Food is made up swiftly and it's always very tempting to tuck into some appetizers whilst you wait. Karachi Restaurant is convenient if you drive as it has parking outfront, giving it a sort of Diner quality. All round Karachi restaurant is a decent kebab shop and one I will frequent again in the future.

This restaurant is a huge and beautifully decorated Indian restaurant serving kashmiri style food…read morewhich was really tasty, much better than typical Indian takeaways. They have a huge menu ranging from curries and sizzlers to vegetarian dishes, various biryani, tandoori dishes and Indian desserts like Kulfi. Portions are massive so just a main would be more than enough, and prices are very cheap for the amount of food you get. The service was excellent, we came on Christmas Eve so it was very quiet but it's usually a very busy lively place. Overall good quality cheap Indian food, very generous portions and great atmosphere, good for parties too.

Goodness though, where do I start with the curry. Firstly, here is not where you come if you like your eyebrows singed and little pain the next day. No, the curries here are made with roasted spices, cooked for absolutely ages until the chefs can be sure there'll be an absolute taste riot in your mouth. Each dish is totally different too. Some of the standouts are the lamb on the bone, the keema, the daal of the day, masala fish (sizzling and huge portion, equal to a whole fish!). The service here can be a bit hit and miss, although when it's spot on, it really is awesome to watch. There are usually about ten waiters on at any one time (it's a big place), running laps around the restaurant with huge trays filled with goodies. It can sometimes be hard to catch their eye for a corkscrew, or to order, and you can wait a while for food. However I might add here that this hasn't happened the last twice I've been. They must be sharpening their game. The atmosphere is raucous (huge groups of people make the pilgramage most nights) and loud (but not in a binge drinking hen night sense, moreso the enjoyable family way). It's BYO - you'll be given some queer glasses to drink from that'll make you think you're drunk before you start. The decor is modern curry house chic. Glass tables and pleather chairs all over the place. There's a curious waiting area with zebra print sofas and a huge telly always showing sky sports. Who knows why. Who cares, eat your dinner!

We started with the popadoms and Chef's platter for 4 (onion bhajees, samosas, buckrawta parcels and kababs) - so tasty and a good selection to whet your appetite. Then we got the chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, tarka dall and naan bread. Good flavor and not too spicy (at least not those dishes - I have heard that their dishes marked spicy are no joke!). Service was very friendly and attentive. They even called us a cab at the end of our meal! Would recommend it!

Thanks to all the Yelpers who provided recommendations!! The location is good, although I reckon there is a fortune to be made selling car parks in the area - seriously they are rare as rockinghorse droppings. Ambience was nice and the staff very accommodating - we were first sat next to a large very noisy group that made it tough for us as two of three at the table were hard of hearing, however the staff were very happy to shift us and we sat in a nice quiet corner. Wednesday night and they were pretty busy, so suggest booking for weekends. Cobra on tap, good wine list from around the world, and passable cocktails. :-D Poppadums and dips to start while we went through the enormous menu! Chefs Sizzler starter is great - bit of all the Tandoori meats, and we followed with Balti Chicken (of course) and two other curries which I could not name - a lamb and a prawn. All in all the meal was excellent, the naan bread possibly the best I have eaten, the roti thin and crispy, and all the curries well flavoured and spiced. Wish we were in town longer so we could do more of the menu! Recommended.

We had lamb tikka and complementary poppadoms with chutney to start. Meat was tender and mildly flavorful. For the mains we enjoyed the Hairy Biker chicken special which was super smoky delicious. The okra / ladyfingers Balti style was full of flavor on top pilau rice. The garlic naan was a generous portion but if you have a large group go for the table naan. Gigantic! Prices were reasonable, under £30 for all this food. Enough for 2-3 people. Casual setting and quick service.

Often you find a group of chaps dining in there and if it is any mark of the place they always seem to be real gents, but equally Zam Zam's encourages families with an upstairs room set aside for such occasions. Food wise, there's a wide selection and although I haven't nearly tried enough of it, what I have is always of a good standard and the portions are decent too. I've built up something of a rapport with the Zam Zam's gang overtime and there's always a smile and a nod from the staff there, I even had free cup of sweet tea the once after taking an interest in what it was the staff were drinking. Zam Zams is authentic and friendly, you may never travel to Pakistan but with Zam Zam's you're most welcome in what might be the next best thing.

Lazzat is a buffet restaurant that serves Arabic, Kashmiri, Italian and Chinese cuisine, which is an odd combination that adds to its uniqueness. The buffet area is expansive with separate starters, dessert and salad counters. The main dishes surround the area with a stir fry stand at the end where a chef prepares your noodles freshly before your own eyes. Considering it's a halal restaurant, I was impressed by the range of vegetarian dishes provided. The food is a little bland for my taste buds, which means it would be universally appealing. The design has an Arabic feel to it with the emphasis on gold and grandeur. The staff are bubbly and helpful, which gives the restaurant a relaxed feel. Although the inside of the restaurant wasn't as glamorous as other venues I tend to go, the food I ordered was presented nice and I could taste a lot of additional flavourings such as basil. We ordered a few bottles of wine for the table and the waitress was always on hand to ensure our glasses were never empty and the table was always clear. All in all the service was excellent, venue OK and food tastier than expected.
