My friend organised a few of us to go here for her birthday based on good reviews. I certainly feel that these reviews need to reflect experience so definitely want to redress the balance.
The evening started badly as, at some point, the restaurant has moved down the road. There is still a large sign up at their old restaurant and we went there to fin it closed up. No notice to say where it had moved to. Lucky we had a smart phone with us!
When we finally found the correct restaurant we found we had a table upstairs and so had to climb a very steep staircase with brown threadbare carpeted sections and, half way up, a big chunk missing. If this sort of thing is shown to the public, I always wonder what goes on behind the scenes!
Anyway service was awful. The staff didn't seem to listen carefully enough. I corrected my friends order for pilau rice when he seemed to mention paratha and they eventually brought 2 roti and 2 chapatis instead of one of each - then charged us for them!
I say 'eventually' because everything was incredibly slow and it was 2 hours before we received our main courses! Prior to that 3 of us ordered starters, but only 2 arrived. We waited, out of manners, for the other one to arrive meaning ours were getting cold, then realised they hadn't even ordered the third. I had chicken pakora - at £3.75, VERY little chicken, about 5 very thin strips.
When our main courses arrived, the waiters had difficulty identifying which were which. I think most weren't very hot but, after the ridiculous wait I couldn't be bothered to send mine back. There were a lot of cod dishes on the menu which I liked but there wasn't enough sauce for me in my South Indian cod curry (I have to say plenty of fish though). The roti was soggy. So, overall, a very disappointing meal and I, for one, certainly wouldn't want to go back! read more
