We finished up quite by accident in the Shahi Grill on a Sat
night. Wanting to try somewhere new and
knowing there were several on Bridge St we parked up and walked towards the centre. We
passed a few restaurants but nothing took my fancy eventually coming to the S
G. Even though it was during the Euros I was surprised that no one else was in
there. Was this an omen? We nearly found an excuse to go somewhere else where
there might have at least been an atmosphere but it was raining and in fairness
it did look very clean and tidy. It seemed odd to have the whole restaurant to ourselves but
the staff was very pleasant and although they were licensed, because we were
their only customers they did let us take our own alcohol in. The menu is quite interesting an I found a few options in
the hot & tasty dept. The poppadoms and dips were good and so they should be
but they had made an extra effort with the dips, one of which I have never seen
before. We started with our usual onion bhaji and korai kebab starters
and excellent they were too, fresh and tasty. Main course was from the hot & tasty selection, the wife
had a C T Dopiaza and my two daughters shared a masala and korma combination dish.
The sides were a garlic & coriander nan, fried rice and chips. Whist each
of us have our own preferences the meal suited all of us and unusually we
couldn't find fault , not even a niggle with the meal. By this time a few more
tables had been taken and feeling a bit guilty for taking our own beer &
wine we decided to repay by having a desert, the banana fritter with
accompanying ice cream was excellent. Service was prompt and attentive
throughout. Overall an excellent night, my best meal in Walsall so far -
well worth a visit. We'll go again and hopefully
it will be busier. 4.5 stars Update 24/7/12 We did go back last Saturday, and it was busier!. I'm pleased to say that the experience was just as good as before with the Jaipuri being one of the tastiest dishes I have had in a very long time. read more
