I've had the same optometrist for years, and seemed happy with him...but after going to Dr. Jonathan Duong at Laguna Coast Optometry, I realized that I was missing out on so much more. Laguna Coast Optometry is located conveniently by other Laguna Beach shops and is blocks away from the beach itself. The store had a wide selection of modern and traditional frames and sunglasses to choose from. The brands ranged from Revlon (a frame I picked) to the trendier Prada and Dior. They seemed to have the most up to date and "in fashion" styles and classic styles to suit others. I was quite impressed. I was even more impressed by Dr. Duong and the eye exam. It was the most thorough and gentle eye exam I have ever had. He went through everything from color-blind testing, depth perception, eye pressure testing, and of course the eye exam itself. He examined my eyes and had a few recommendations to maintain healthier eyes and had a way to make me feel at ease. He even pointed out a couple things that my previous optometrist had never told me before. I was so amazed by how thorough and complete the exam was. I've been wearing glasses for over 30 years and seen countless optometrists. Laguna Coast Optometry is the best. Dr. Duong is very knowledgeable and professional. He gives me a very thorough eye exam which includes tests that no other optometrist gave me before. He is great at explaining each test and your results. After the exam, Mai, who is also knowledgeable, helps you select the best frame that fits your face and listens to what you like and what you don't like. She is very pleasant, and really takes the time and effort to make sure you are happy. The equipment Laguna Coast Optometry uses is very hi-tech. Whenever I get my glasses, it always fits well and the prescription is always perfect. Before going to Laguna Coast Optometry, I had to return a few glasses to get it redone because it wasn't quite right and would sometimes make me feel dizzy. With the hi-tech equipment, knowledge and expertise of Laguna Coast Optometry, I no longer have that problem. I started going to Dr. Duong and Mai when they were in Anaheim. Dr. Duong and his wife are the best in Laguna! They are the nicest, most helpful people and go out of your way to ensure your experience is the best. I sometimes fall asleep wearing my glasses, and I've brought them in many times to be refitted to my face since they get a little tweaked. Laguna Coast Optometry is now owned by a new optometrist, Dr. Nguyen. He is the best! Even though I wore contacts every day since age 16, I gave them up a three years ago because they no longer provided great vision and comfort. Dr. Nguyen fitted me with new lens and explained what I could do to relieve eye dryness. After I wore the pairs he gave me for a few days; he retested my vision and the fit and made a further adjustment in the RX. He is meticulous and current on all things optometry. The office manager, Ryan, is a pleasure to work with as well and helped my daughter (also a happy patient) find up-to-date frames. read more

Terrible. Doctor does not know how to do much. Just stay far and away. He bad mouthed the dr that was there before him and then after that he gave me the wrong vision prescription !!! It's been a decade since I've had an eye exam so I was nervous about my eye sight changing. After a thorough exam from a very experience and nice Dr. Duong... My eyes are still 20/20! He even burned my results onto a CD for me to share with Optometrist sister who lives in Texas. Mai assisted me with selecting fashionable color contacts and repairing my sunglasses. NOT UPFRONT ABOUT COSTS!!!! I called and verified that they take my insurance, and (being a poor college student) I specifically asked how much it would cost me. I was told there would only be a $10 co-pay. I went in (was offered some extra service for $50 which I declined and I said I only wanted to pay the $10 co-pay), and at the end of the visit I was told I owed $100. I have absolutely no idea at what point they think I agreed to paying $90 more, but I definitely didn't. I'm a college student, and a $100 unforeseen bill is a LOT for me to handle. If you go, I'd ask for the price in writing before you see the doctor. read more

I had been using one pair of bifocals for around six years and realized how lucky I had been not losing or damaging my only pair of eyeglasses. Wanting to get ahead of the curve, I did some research visiting several shops and found Laguna Coast Optometry. I am glad that I chose them. First of all it is a family business and they treated me very well. Second they are experienced with advanced and modern technology. I was fitted with two pairs of digital progressive glasses, replacing my bifocals and eliminating the need for trifocals. After a period of adjustment they have improved my situation greatly. I was also fitted with multifocal contact lenses but that has been a harder adjustment. Through it all both Dr. Duong and Mae have been very patient and very helpful. They have made a significant contribution to my quality of life and I would not hesitate to recommend their services. read more

Terrible front desk manager ! she authorized my insurance, billed it from another office location then proceeded to charge me $ 160.00 cash for the eye exam ! This is illegal, when I brought this to her attention, she picked up the phone and called 911 telling them that I refused to leave their store and tried to have me arrested... Bad idea to use this Office. I dont have a Rx, my insurance has been billed and I have paid out of pocket ! stay away !!!! read more

Wow. Just, wow. I've been to many optometrists, none measure up to Laguna Coast. If you want the latest in eyewear and contacts, go here. If you want great, competitive prices, go here. If you want friendly, personalized service where they know you by name, go here. If you want your mind blown, go here. Let me give you some examples. First, I had been having dry-eye issues for some time. I had visited three other optometrists without seeing much relief. And then Laguna Coast Optometry happened. My girlfriend found Laguna Coast on Yelp, made an appointment, was seen within days, and came home raving. I made my own appointment shortly after. Days later, I walked in and met Mai - one of the most genuinely friendly persons on this planet. Without having to wait, Dr. Duong came out and introduced himself, and into his office I went. We had a friendly chat, he listened to everything I said, and he then followed through with a thorough, efficient, quick exam. After the exam Dr. Duong addressed how we might remedy my dry eyes - he informed me of daily-wear contacts and shared the price differences among the different brands. He then let me know that their store was one of a few that had recently received a new type of daily. Obviously the new ones had a higher price, but in order for me to make an informed decision he let me go home with trial boxes of two different types, one of which was the new type. Oh, and when I say they let me go home with some trial boxes, I mean that I was able to try each type for longer than I needed to make a decision. The result? I went with the newest ones, and I couldn't be happier with my decision - a year and a half later. That is, no more dry eye. Second, when I recently spent a summer in New York, Mai was so helpful in making sure I was always in stock of my eye contacts. And they never once charged me for postage, even after I had offered to reimburse them. And third, they have always worked with me to ensure that I have contacts when I need them, even if it means that they send me home with some trial pairs until my new ones get in. And when they have to order, they get here quick. Oh, and if you pay up front, they have it mailed directly to your house within days. I've been a customer for almost two years now, and it'll be a sad, sad day when I move from Laguna Beach, not only because it's a great town, but also because I won't be able to frequent both Mai and Dr. Duong. I'm a starving, broke, sleep-deprived law student at the moment, and these friendly people have made at least one area of my life as easy as can be. She is very knowledgable and thoroughly explained the kind of services I would be receiving with my insurance. Dr. Duong provided the most comprehensive eye exam I have ever seen. He even injected some personality during the exam (which I find severely lacking in most eye doctors). He suggested I take preventative measures to reduce the onset of potential macular degeneration and maintain healthy eyesight. If I could give Zero stars I would. My experience with Dr Jonathan Duong was not a good experience. Their door says they are supposed to be open at 9:00am, I had an appointment at 9:00am, showed up at 8:55 and they didn't open their doors until 9:50. I waited almost an hour. I really should have left. My time is important he didn't respect mine. My eye exam was rushed because he was running late and I don't believe it was thorough. He was rude to me and didn't apologize for his tardiness. This is my first and last experience with this Optometrist. read more

I recently moved from Indiana, and I have always needed glasses and/or contacts for distant vision ( I am nearsighted). I began to notice, however that my arms just weren't long enough any more, and I had to give in to the idea that I needed bifocals, as well. I received a thorough, state of the art eye exam from Dr. Dhoung, and his amazing, knowledgeable wife Mei helped me with my choice of glasses. I am now the proud owner of a beautiful pair of Roberto Martinelli eyeglasses, which have Transition lenses, a digital, progressive prescription which allows me to wear them for distance and reading; these glasses were made to be compatible with my vision alone!! I also purchased multifocal contact lenses, and I LOVE the fact that I can wear them, without worrying about another pair of glasses, in the form of bifocals. They are very focused on their clients, and they have an amazing knowledge base. I would absolutely recommend Laguna Coast Optometry to anyone requiring eye care services!!! My husband is also in need of new bifocals, so he will be the next to visit , and get his personalized exam!!
