I love, love, love that Ladybread has opened a location in Charleston. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 10am and found them still pretty well stocked. We bought a loaf of sourdough-- a must --some freshly made focaccia, a couple of cookies, a piece of German chocolate cake and a savory mushroom scone. The only downside is that they do not have a slicer for their loaves. Disappointing, because I always end up slicing a little crooked at home. Everything is great, but the immediate standout for me was the savory scone. It's a hearty breakfast in a neat to-go package, buttery, with ample mushrooms throughout. We had Ladybread Bakery make our 50th wedding anniversary party cakes. We ordered (large, two-tiered, round) a German Chocolate with raspberry filling, and Carrot Cake. Oh! My! Goodness! These were the best cakes we've ever had in our lives (and we're old people). Our guests were lined up to have seconds, like they'd never eaten cake in their lives before. The cake decorator delivered the cakes to our home (no charge) placed them where we wanted them, and made the last finishing touches. I was delighted, because I couldn't imagine how I was going to get those big cakes to our house without destroying them. Another nice thing about the cakes, was that I refrigerated the leftovers, and they did not get moldy. I mean I had them for a couple of weeks (because we can only eat so much cake a day, even fabulous cake). I should mention we also ordered a small, non-dairy, no nut frosting cake for our guests with allergies. They loved it. The cakes were SO SUPERIOR to others I have ordered elsewhere. Not made from a mix. Also, they make their own fruit preserves. So good and fresh! read more

I was looking for Scones and read a positive report on Yelp about this bakery. I stopped in yesterday and purchased five scones and to my first surprise was quoted $35.00 for the five scones, $7.00 bucks each. The scones were already in the bag so I paid the $35.00 and departed. The service was good enough but the parking was horrible due to the cyclone fence around the property probably due to the presence of wandering homeless folks in the area. The second suprise was the "Scones", in my opinion, were horrible; they were Lady Bread's version of a scone. Fred Meyer's scones are much better and far less pricy. read more
