As as second time mom, I was on the fence…read moreabout hiring a doula since I had already experienced labor.  I am so happy that I chose to have Dakota at my birth! Dakota set a gentle, mellow mood throughout the birth. She used essential oils and music to keep the hospital room as homey and relaxing as possible. She gave gentle coaching as needed, helping me to move through positions and stay calm. She helped my partner to take care of himself, too, which meant that he could be there for me when I needed him.  Dakota was invaluable in helping us meet our goal of a peaceful birth with no medical interventions. Dakota is wonderful when things are going well, but she is also incredible when things go wrong. Towards the end of our birth, my baby's heart rate dropped dramatically.  The OB realized that my placenta was detaching and I needed to push my baby out FAST. Dakota quickly switched modes from gentle to focused coaching -- she helped me to breathe and push efficiently but calmly, and my sweet baby came out safely two contractions later.  Without Dakota's help, I don't know if we would have had as good of an outcome.   Dakota helped us to have a hospital birth that felt like a home birth.  She provided amazing support before, during, and after.  I feel very lucky to have had her help and support.  I can't imagine a better doula.

The focus is on swim survival, not learning the back stroke. Children from ages 6 months (yes, 6 months!) to 6 years are taught to swim underwater with their eyes open, and float on their backs. He is patient and caring and genuinely cares about your kids. He tailors the lessons to each individual child and works with them to accomplish each goal. I am so happy that I enrolled them in these classes! I think it's one of the best decisions I have made for my kiddos! 5+ stars for ISR!

But, because we spend a lot of time near water, I thought it would be a good idea to at least try to see if she can float. Her instructor, Aisha was just starting out in Kunia and was very good with children and patient since she's a mother herself. My daughter is now 3 years old, is in an advanced swimming class and loves swimming. The ISR class helped build her confidence not only in water, but in school and other areas of her development. My son is now 18 months and just started ISR again with Aisha. He's a much faster learner and really loves the water. We're already talking about getting a pool in the back yard soon!

They have classes based on pole tricks, workout, flexibility, handstands, men's club and exotic. My boyfriend and I do the tricks, workout and handstands together - it really is a good workout. You will leave their classes really sore, and you don't need to be flexible or coordinated to do it! If you saw us a year ago, we could not do ANY of the tricks they taught us and we are pretty good now. On the other hand with exotic classes, they are so friendly and welcoming! Everyone will wear their heels, sexier clothes (from just fitted shirts to fishnet tights) and they dim the lights for more ambiance. It's so fun and they go through part of dance routines step by step slowly and you can ask questions. At the end you have opportunity to record yourself for progress or just flow with the music. I recommend you try it at least once!

What's not to love about this school right in one of the best locations in Oregon? I love to visit…read moremy son here! There's so much to do and see from skiing, mountain biking, road biking, river rafting, climbing, hiking, and checking out the great variety of terrain. The views of the mountains and the high desert makes the time spent here worth the drive from California (aside from my being with my son!). Consumer prices are a bit lower than in the Bay Area where I live, so that's a bonus. There are many new hotels and lovely bed & breakfasts in Bend. Lots of trendy restaurants to test as well! One summer day I enjoyed tastings from several restaurants which had set up tents along the Deschutes River. There was live music and plenty of friendly people, although not nearly the large crowds I'm used to. The next day I attended a Beer Festival featuring over 40 micro breweries in the area. This event was held at the new outdoor amphitheater and also featured live music. Many, many people travelled to this event on their bicycles, which were locked up to the surrounding fences. A really cool, mellow atmosphere alongside the river banks.
