Not to be confused with Bazzar restaurant, Bazzar Cafe is a very cool bookstore cafe on the second floor of Livraria da Travessa. There are sound-absorbing ceiling panels, big pretty mirrored lights on the wall, and a fine sandwich menu. I ordered the slow cooked lamb (Cordeiro) but something got lost in translation and they brought me the wrong sandwich. They were very apologetic and brought me the right one after a 10 minute wait.
The sandwich reminded me a lot of an Australian burger (the pineapple and lamb combination). It also had some dijon mustard to help offset the sweetness of the pineapple relish. It was a little messy to eat, but only because the lamb was so tender.
Sandwiches come with either fries or a salad. I opted for the fries, which were super crispy, and served in a metal scooper (nice touch). But what I liked most was their coffee. The cafe com leite was freshly made and served with tiny stick of fruit preserves (not sure if that's a traditional thing). It was probably the best coffee I had in Brazil.
If you have a lazy afternoon or have a craving for a sandwich, I'd definitely recommend Bazzar Cafe. read more
