I was fortunate to be able to attend the event "Celebrate ReVive: The Art of Giving," at Lacuna Artist Loft Studios. Along with heightening my awareness of homelessness in Chicago, I was able to see some pretty cool art, and listen to some great music which seemed to echo the days of Trip-Hop. The space is open, but there are is lots of exploring to do. I did not get a chance to go upstairs. If you are invited to an event at this location, I strongly recommend you go as I feel like it is a combination of the Pilsen Art Walk meets Flat Iron building. There are many props/pieces of art to use as backdrops for selfies and group photos. Just being there will inspire your inner artist. Reenergize your soul while channeling that feeling in your youth that you had when you got a chance to rummage through your grandmother's attic. Don't worry about parking. There's plenty available. read more

We couldn't of asked for a better venue for our wedding. Mary at Lacuna always assured us everything would be fine and she sure pulled it off. No matter what happened Mary made sure that we were going to get the wedding of our dreams. Even when it started raining and our ceremony was on the rooftop, Mary was able to work her magic and we had our cocktail hour before the ceremony. By doing this the rain eventually subsided, all the chairs were wiped down and we were able to have our dream wedding on the rooftop. The entire time this was going on Mary didn't even flinch and kept everything running perfectly smooth. The food was exactingly like it was the tasting and the staff was on point the entire night. They truly make it an experience and their entire staff is top notch. Thank you so much for making our special day run smooth. read more

If I could give a place over 5 stars on Yelp, I would. Lacuna Artists Lofts and LM Catering absolutely nailed it. From the moment my fiance and I walked in to tour the place until the day after our wedding when we came to pick up all our DIY stuff, Lorraine was there with us and was an absolute joy to work with. I miss seeing her all the time! Lacuna did everything and more that we wanted for our wedding. They had the artist vibe but with the high-class flair. We had our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all in the building and it truly hit our theme of Chicago Local Artistic vibe. They worked with us on our food, which everyone tells us is the best they've ever had, they had the BEST DESSERTS and they also let us put our personal touches on things from having a signature drink to having a late-night food truck come for our guests. I am so in love with Lacuna and wish we could do it all over again! read more

We had our fall 2016 wedding here, ceremony on the rooftop and reception in the Reverie Gallery. This venue is outstanding for it's views and creative photo opportunities. We were incredibly over joyed with the way our wedding turned out and would recommend it to anyone looking for a wedding venue in Chicago. The pricing for the room rental was very reasonable compared to other venues in Chicago which often have a very high minimum. The price per head cost was very flexible with options for plated, buffet, family style and even BYOB. That being said, the food was spectacular. We experienced a tasting at Troquet restaurant, and everything was so delicious that it was hard to make a choice! Our guests still rave about the steak and chicken. The catering staff was excellent and very attentive. Everything turned out perfect on the day of our wedding. Leading up to our wedding there were some issues. Since this is an artist loft, they are constantly making changes to the building. This of course is out of the control of the events staff since they just rent from the building. Every time we came to the venue to meet with our coordinator, something would be different. Sometimes this would work out in our favor, like newly remodeled bathrooms. Other times not so much. Originally we rented "The Blank Canvas Gallery" a beautiful space with exposed brick and wood beams. A few months before our wedding we get a call that the owner of the building commissioned an art piece to be painted in the Blank Canvas Gallery... a large green and purple raccoon. We were extremely upset by this, but the LM Staff worked with us to make it right and we were able to move our reception to the Reverie Gallery. If you rent this space, just be prepared that the building might make changes. read more

Just moved into a new space here on the 3rd floor and couldn't be happier with the space. The loft-style setting is perfect for using as a photography backdrop, and a good portion of the space acts as a walk-through art exhibit. Great space for private events as well! read more

I love trying new things and exploring Chicago. My Mom wanted her eyebrows arched w/henna tint. We all know that every nail shop on the South side has someone that can arch your eyebrows but do they care about your skin. What about your eyebrows? That's how we discovered @qubiegirlbeauty. An artist at Lacuna, she's awesome. She gave us a tour and we met other artists. The place is truly beautiful! read more

We booked Lacuna Artist Lofts for our January 2016 wedding. We knew we wanted a space in the city and wanted a unique space. When we looked at Lacuna, we knew it was perfect for us. I'll start with the space- since we got married in January, we were not able to take advantage of the rooftop (but if you get married in the spring, summer or fall, it is one of the BEST rooftops in the city- the view is amazing!). We booked the Reverie Gallery on the first floor. It is a very large room with tons of space. We did a seated dinner for 180 guests and the tables probably took up about half of the room. We used the other half of the room for the cocktail hour. It was nice that we only had to book one room for the event since the space is so large. We also had enough space for a pretty large dance floor (which was great since we hired a band). There is just SO much interesting artwork to see in the space and all around the first floor. The murals and artwork are always changing so there is always something new to see! The bar is made of an old shipping container and we were able to commission a local artist to paint a mural on the side of it for us. Lacuna has an exclusive caterer, LM Events. I actually liked this because then I didn't have to go out and separately book a caterer but if you want someone specific, this is definitely something to know. Lacuna worked with us to customize a fantastic menu. They have set packages but are open to work with couples to make the packages work for you. We did a food and wine tasting a few months before the wedding to pick out everything that we wanted. The food on the day of the wedding turned out great as well. Lacuna has a good team over there. We worked with Mary throughout the process and she was very helpful to us and worked well with our other vendors as well. Everyone on the staff is knowledgeable and seems to really believe in what Lacuna has to offer. I think this space is going to take off in Chicago because it is honestly so unique, interesting and just plain cool. If you are looking for something a little different for your wedding, please take a look at Lacuna. I hope you fall in love with it like we did! read more

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Renters beware! I come here on a weekly basis (for nearly two years) to receive service. [And no, leaving my stylist is not an option so I must continue to come here.] Every week there is a problem or new rule. This week- no heat or bathrooms working on subsequent floors, only the main level. The elevator rarely works, which result in walking four flights of stairs. The buzzer isn't working so they have to send someone down to let the clients inside the building. Although this property is great aesthetically, is in a great location (for me) and the spaces/lofts are mostly rehabbed. Oh, and the parking sucks, too! There is designated parking for visitors but once they are all filled you are out of luck. Although, there are other empty spaces throughout the lot. The problems encountered here on a daily basis are deemed unacceptable! GET IT TOGETHER LACUNA LOFTS OR THE PROPERTY WILL END UP EXACTLY AS YOU FOUND IT--- EMPTY!!! read more

Lacuna Artist Lofts is the most unique place for artists in the city! It has a huge variety of artists, clothing designers, beauty/barber shops, photographers, etc. The management is very accommodating, attentive to your needs and willing to go the extra mile to ensure their tenants have a happy home with in Lacuna. The building itself, well, it speaks for itself. One step inside this old Macaroni Factory and you will see that it is anything but old! The beautiful views, the amazing woodwork, and overall design will be enough to woo you into the love of the Lacuna family. The artistic feel and flo are to be admired and it will eventually be a building that others try to replicate once this place fills to capacity. I recommend this location to all artists, designers, photographers, etc. read more

My daughter and son-in-law had their wedding at Lacuna early fall 2016. The space is great with old wood and brick, and ever changing art, and the food exceptional, but I sadly agree with other reviews that the event management is not on par with the space, making the experience less than what it could have been. The event management team at Lacuna, for the most part, were less than helpful, and lacking in communication of any changes that happened before the event, such as the roof top option disappearing suddenly due to its rental to someone else, entire walls being changed from brick to glass in the agreed upon space, murals being added to walls in the room just weeks before the wedding, and only one working elevator on the opposite side of the large building. The rooftop rental was an option but before my daughter and son-in-law could decide whether or not they were going to spend the extra money for the area, the decision was made for them as it was rented to someone else without notice. A brick wall turned to into a glass wall in the event room when the brick was removed. It was an unhappy surprise when the couple stopped at the space to look at it for decorating details months after they signed the agreement. A few weeks prior to the wedding, a giant cartoon raccoon mural on the wall where they had planned their ceremony, was the cause of another surprise. My daughter was told management didn't know about it until after it was on the wall. However, the Lacuna website home page, showed a video of the artist who painted the giant mural, his process and how nice it was to work on the project with Lacuna. To cover the mural for weddings in the room, they stapled sheets of frayed material from the rafters to the floor along the length wall and provided a 7' barn type door as a backdrop. Happily, the giant green, black and purple raccoon was removed in time for my daughter's wedding. The only usable elevator in the maze of a building was the freight elevator. If you have any physically challenged, or older friends or relatives, this is definitely a problem, as the building is very large, with a lot of stairs and a long walk to that elevator. During set up before the wedding, after several requests of management, in over as many hours, the bathrooms and bridal suite had yet to be cleaned and there was no toilet paper. It remained that way until guests and bride arrived. We again ran out of toilet paper during the reception. Due to liability issues, we weren't supposed to unstack the chairs and tables in the room. When we ran out of time and the ceremony chairs hadn't been set up, the decision was made that their liability issue would take back seat to our issue of no chairs for our guests and completed the setup on our own. Finally, we were informed by 3 different people, while cleaning up after the wedding, that we had to have any decorations stored in the office for the night, out by 10:30 am the following day due to an in coming wedding. We arrived to a locked office. After calling Lacuna Events management, we were told no one would be available until 11:00. When Mary arrived, she apologized that we were misinformed on the time. We requested a cart to get our decorations to the elevator, Mary said she would check, but doubted a cart's availability. She never said another word to us about the cart or anything else. Six of us walked up and down 3 flights of stairs, 3-4 times each, carrying boxes. I agree with other reviews that the event space itself is wonderful for those not looking for the typical wedding banquet room, but the management team at Lacuna Events lacked at communication which caused confusion and unwelcome surprises along the way. read more

We had our wedding on the roof and reception in the blank canvas room at Lacuna in August 2017. They were so incredibly accommodating and easy to work with, we can't recommend them enough. First, the people are amazing. You rely on your venue and caterer to do a lot, our contact Lorraine, was absolutely amazing. She answered every crazy question and accommodated all of our crazy requests and countless emails. We planned our wedding from halfway across the country with a pretty inflexible schedule and they always found time to meet with us whenever we were in town (including doing our tasting 2 days before Christmas when it was the only day we were free!) I really can't say enough about how great all of LM, but Lorraine especially, was to work with. Wedding planning can be stressful so it's nice to have a vendor you know you can rely on and who you look forward to seeing. Second, the food from LM was great. We were worried about what we were going to get (and how much we were going to pay!) given that you're locked into using LM when you book at Lacuna. Everything was within budget, beautiful, and delicious! We had some guests with dietary restrictions and they handled it without any problems. Their bartenders were excellent (we did the BYO option) and the plates and linens they provided were beautiful and unique. Also, they never try to upsell you, though there are always fancier options if you want it. We were nervous about hidden costs, but LM never said no to any of our requests and almost everything we asked for was included free of charge (champagne flutes were the only extra we had to pay for). We get the sense that this sort of service is pretty rare in the wedding industry. Third, the space is just amazing. We wanted a venue with a lot of character so that we wouldn't have to do a ton of decorating. I couldn't get over how beautiful everything was on the day of our wedding. We paid extra for the roof to hold our ceremony and cocktail hour. It was just so incredibly beautiful. Our reception down in the blank canvas room was also really nice. Our reception space was our only hiccup over the 12 months of wedding planning. You should know that LM runs events at Lacuna but does not own or manage the space. The building managers decided to move the blank canvas room from the second to the third floor, changing the location of our reception. While it was a bit stressful at the time (this happened 4 months before our wedding), LM and Lorraine handled it professionally and courteously (especially since it wasn't their fault), and we never gave it a second thought once we saw the new space. In an upside to the room change, the new room had permanently installed café lights strung up that provided the perfect amount of light (we also had candles) and everything was beautiful (I'll try to post some pictures). It all worked out great and this shouldn't deter you from Lacuna in the slightest, but we felt like it was important to mention that the space is awesome but also always changing. Overall, we can't recommend this place enough. It's a beautiful, unique space, and LM (especially Lorraine!) is a dream to work with who feel personally invested in your day and feel like friends at your wedding. Go for it! read more

I came to this building to get my hair done by a woman who my mom referred me to. When the cab I took stopped in front of this building I thought to myself, "this is where it ends, I'm going to die..." (Haha) As I entered the building and walked from floor to floor I was amazed at all of the beautiful artwork on the walls, and the architecture inside! This building is extremely unique! Moral of this story, I will never judge a book by it's cover! read more

I don't feel like I could say enough good things to do the space and the staff justice . We got married here this past weekend (in busy September) and worked with the coordinator Lorraine Murphy. The entire process of planning and coordinating was so smooth and easy. All communication was fast and always met with a friendly response. All of our requests were met, even minor last minute changes two days prior to the big day. Our wedding day truly exceeded our expectations. The space is beautiful and our guests could not get enough of it. Everything ran smoothly and there was not one hiccup identified. On top of all of this, the food was absolutely delicious and we received many comments on how good all the choices were. I would highly highly recommend this space, LM catering, and Lorraine Murphy to anyone looking to host a big event. read more

My daughter just got married at Lacuna and what a FABULOUS experience! This venue is THE hidden gem for weddings in Chicago. The staff was amazing and helped us every step of the way. I have to say this place is on of the best kept secrets in the city. In this one building you get the vibe of a urban educated retro contemporary movement. You can find art gallerias of various painters, tattoo artists, and various photographers. There is a vast array of business in this building. If you have time you should check this place out. I have been once but plan to go back again. read more

BEWARE! This place is unsafe! I attended an event here and a large PLATE GLASS room divider shattered on me, seriously lacerating my hand. Management was nowhere to be found as I was rushed to hospital. No amount of hipness is worth risking life and limb! Choose a more safe venue! read more

I have a contract for my wedding and reception. We choose this venue because of its uniqueness. However, so many things are changing with the management within the special events, that I can't do any planning. The most frustrating part is that I leave messages and NO ONE has called me back! I have tried to email them via their web page and they don't go through because of a system failure on their part. They had no problem taking my money but so far I am unimpressed with their customer services. We have had three different planners since we started because the staff keeps changing. As soon as we saw Lacuna we knew this was exactly where we wanted to get married! Its so different and fun that it really helps set a happy tone for a wedding. Plus with all the art and cool structural built ins decorating the reception area was far less stressful. Plus the city views from the rooftop are perfect if you can take advantage of them! As long as you are willing to bring in all your own stuff and vendors this place is definitely worth it! They have plenty of people on site that are willing to help you plan the set up and decor, and they were always nice enough to alert us of any knew art that went up and give us the option to use it or have it taken away. With all the new additions being made to the venue I am sure it is only going to get better! read more

Took a tour , not very nice, The exterior looks more apealing, not really fooled by their artist aproach it just seems like a Shady deal

I cannot say enough about what a positive experience we had at Lacuna for our daughter's wedding. We reserved the roof for the ceremony and cocktail hour. The view was spectacular and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the vibe. The staff was ready with wine and passed hors d'oeuvres at the end of the ceremony and the flow was perfect. Guests were transported by freight elevator with no issues to the Reverie Gallery for dinner and dancing. It is a beautiful, eclectic venue with nooks and seating areas for guests to mingle. LM Catering did an excellent job of presenting and serving the food. We had 2 stations and the service flow was flawless. Our guests raved about the food. From start to finish the Lacuna staff, from management, wait staff and bartenders, was great and totally accommodating. read more

I realize m y review will probably go into the "unrecommended " pile along with the other negative reviews but need to try to warn people planning to have an event here that you need to think twice. If you don't care about getting some bang for your buck, then maybe this is the place for you, although safety might be something you should take into account. The most frightening thing that happened was that one of the guests walked through a plate glass divider which completely crashed to the ground, sending her to the hospital and spraying glass everywhere. The staff was almost invisible, and clearly untrained in how to deal with an emergency. The guests were the ones who had to secure the area, and it was only after more than ten minutes that anyone bothered to clean up the glass. Most shocking of all, no one ever bothered to come over, see how the injured guest was doing or even find out her name- even when the event ended. A week later we have still not heard from the venue. I am not blaming the staff: Two women did try. I am blaming the management for not having anyone in charge and not training staff. In addition, the elevator which had been transporting people broke, although fortunately after transporting people; and one of the two sinks in the tiny bathroom was out of order. If you are going to rent your place out at top dollar, you should at least have the very few and basic amenities you offer in working order. People might also want to know that there is no kitchen on site or even a place to hang coats. All together we dodged a few bullets. People could very easily have been on the elevator when it broke and many more people could have been injured very seriously by the huge plate glass divider when it crashed. Lacuna, you clearly have some work to do . You need to put much more time and effort into your staff and facilities. People deserve to have your very basic amenities in working order and need to know that you are looking out for their safely and well being read more

Such a beautiful space! Very open and rustic looking, with wood floors and walls and tons of charm. I came here today for a friend's art show and was completely shocked that such a charming location could be in Pilsen. The rooftop deck offers incredible views of the city, and the details of the building make it an ideal space to hold an art showing or other creative event. I'm obsessed with the CTA el car door that houses a bathroom, the gorgeous chandeliers, and the old timey, slightly nerve wracking, cage-like elevator. If I were a creative type, I'd be jonesin to rent in this space. read more

I really wanted to get married here, but it did not really fit in with my budget. I love the diverse artists and kind of art coming out of these lofts. Check it out! read more

I held my wedding ceremony on the roof top of Lacuna Artist lofts. I was very underwhelmed by the service I received prior to, and also on my wedding day. The venue itself I would give 1000 stars to, the roof top view of downtown on a perfect chicago day, is to die for. Coordinating with the management company that runs the ins and outs of events at this venue is where there was several issues. Prior to my wedding we had been in communication consistently, to coordinate walkthroughs with my wedding planner and decorator. On several occasions the management company representative was either late, or wrestling with the elevator/searching for an elevator attendant. Time and Time again we requested a dressing room for myself and my bridesmaids to change and house our belongings during the ceremony and we were told that that was for people who scheduled their wedding and reception at the Lacuna location. Finally after several request we received confirmation the week of the wedding that we will have a room to get dressed in. During the tour the management company advised that my husband and I's name would be posted on the movie theater sign right in front of the door, for guest to see upon arrival. When I showed up to the venue a different couples name was on the sign with the wedding date the day before mine. I requested for them to change it or to just the names removed because the wedding posted was the day before, a young lady reported back and said it is only for guest who are having the wedding and the reception at Lacuna. Also many of my guest were forced to take the stairs (which is about 5 floors) to the roof top, due to there being no elevator attendant, as promised. Amongst those walking up 5 flights of stairs were elderly 85+ years old. Lastly, as I am waiting with my father to walk down the aisle, guest were directed up the stairs directly to where I was being held before entry to my wedding. There was a door attendant that advised me upon arrival in the holding area, that she was in charge of managing late guest, and that she would make sure late guest wouldn't see me before the wedding . Instead she disappeared about 2 min into the ceremony, and I was seen by 5+ people who were apparently directed to the area where I was standing. It ruined the last moments I had with my dad before walking down the aisle. Instead of my father and I talking and preparing for this life changing moment, I was naturally dragged into hugs and conversation by out of town guest. All in All I was disappointed with the customer service Lacuna did not provide. I was saddened that because I chose to only have my ceremony in this location that I was treated less than. read more
