Update: * On April 1, 2025 I entered into a verbal agreement with Edward Torres, CPA PC Tax & Accounting Services for the "xxxxxxxxxxxx" trust taxes to be prepared and filed to the IRS before the 2024 tax due date deadline. * A tax extension was filed by this CPA to the IRS, but the CPA failed to file the taxes by the extension filing date deadline. * At the initial meeting with him I left the previous year tax returns and any other data that I thought would be helpful in completing the preparation/filing of the trust taxes. * At that meeting Mr. Torres requested two additional items/documents, which the trustee (me), later that day I complied and emailed the CPA the two (2) attached documents, that he had requested. * I have the copies of emails that reflects the requested documents were sent to the CPA, and I also have an email acknowledgment/reply from Mr. Torres. * What I believe happened is a matter of plain old incompetency. * Mr. Torres for whatever the reason erred/failed to file taxes on behalf of the trust by the tax deadline. * When I confronted him he chose to tell a bogus story that he needed more information about the beneficiaries of the trust in order to complete the tax filing task. * He blamed me, saying that the taxes were not prepared and filed by him because I neglected to contact him and supply him the documentation that he requested/needed to complete the taxes. * If that were true, why did he not contact me concerning his documentation needs before the tax filing deadline? * Something I would expect any professional to do. * There is no record of any communication between Mr. Torres and me until after the filing deadline had passed. * You would expect that a professional CPA that was charging a total fee of $2500.00 to complete the taxes, would contact the client, reminding/requesting from the client any missing docs. * That did not happen. * As trustee I am also the sole beneficiary of the above trust and he had all my trustee, and beneficiary information including my tax ID number and the original trust documentation to work with/from. * There are no other listed beneficiaries besides me that have any standing. * He also had a copy of the managed fund yearly statements for the tax year of 2024 where every penny of the trust money is invested. * I also provided him with a copy of the previous years tax return that he could use as a template and simply update the data for the 2024 tax year. * All the necessary info was in the previous years tax filing document forms. * Besides capital gains, no money was withdrawn from the trust fund during the year of 2024. * Unfortunately, my dealings with Mr. Torres was like talking to a brick wall, and is one of the most exasperating, frustrating, people I have encountered. * The question is, why did he not contact me to remedy his so called missing docs. * The reason, he just screwed up, forgot about me, and failed to prepare the trust taxes! * That's the reason he didn't contact me. * Mr. Torres attempted to twist my account version, to justify and hide his failure. * If we are to believe his version of this story to be true, (again) "why did he not contact me for the additional documents that he needed?" * At this latest meeting he did offer to complete my taxes but I would still have to pay him $2000.00 for the task which I no longer felt was viable. * Furthermore, I would still be responsible for any tax late fees incurred. * You know the expression "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". * I asked for the $500.00 fee back but he refused to give it to me. Compare to other services, David is very informative, and skilled, I got to David by the recommendation from one of the bank agent that i used. You could ask right in front of him about your taxes and your situation, and he would explain to you the reason behind each number, rather than charging you and left you hanging, the service fee is very reasonable and not too excessive. For time sensitive clients, you can book with David and he would finish up the tax for you right away without having to come back and pick up. The only downside is, in taxing season, you might find it to be a little difficult to get your tax done without appointment, I walked-in in my first year and it took me 2 hours waiting on the line. If you'd like to book with David, I suggest email a week before.

I first went to consult David back in March 2022 and he was great. He answered all my tax questions and I was in and out of the office in no time. I thought to myself, great, I just found an amazing accountant in my neighborhood. During that time, I explained to David about my situation and he responded to come back to me when tax season is over and all he has to do is to file a 1040x (to amend my tax return - 1040). (Side note: The issue that I had was that I initially e-filed my taxes. The federal rejected it but the state accepted it. Which is why I went to seek professional services in resolving the problem). So on December 12, 2022 at 1:30pm I went to see David and his office was busy. I told David I did not have an appointment and I asked, "should I make an appointment"? He decided to hear me out at first but then he passed my case to one of his employees. The employee explained to me that since I did not file my taxes 2020 taxes with them, there is nothing that they can do and I would have to come back during tax season. I tried to explain to them what David told me back in April (to come back after tax season) and David told his employee in Chinese "just ignore him, he is too annoying". Yup, just because someone doesn't speak the language, doesn't mean the person does not understand. The funny thing is that, just over the weekend, the same family friend asked me how was my experience with David because she wanted to file her taxes with him for the upcoming year. I raved about how great he was the first time around but after this experience, it got me to think: if a family friend doesn't even use your service in the first place, it is extremely telling of your professional demeanor or the lack thereof. When filing as a freelancer on 1040ES, you're supposed to pay quarterly estimates. Repeatedly over the 3 years I used Marc, he told me as long as I paid ALL of the estimated taxes by the final due date as opposed to quarters, I'd be ok and not be fined. Well I'm sitting here at 3 years since using Marc and now I have received fines from the IRS for 2 of the years I used his services. Luckily I've switched to someone else who told me I should 100% be paying quarterly and no fines so far. And also saving a couple hundred on prep costs. I cannot recommend Marc's tax prep services for this reason. If you're cutting corners on taxes it'll end up costing you in the end. I gave Marc an extra star just because he was a nice and pleasant guy but fines speak louder.

He misfiled our state paperwork and (unbeknownst to us) our refund was rejected; he then refused to answer any emails and left on vacation without a word. We found out by contacting the state--he never informed us himself. As such we were stuck in the lurch with significant amounts of money missing. As of this post we are still awaiting him to contact us. In short, this office could cost you serious money and stress due to carelessness--look elsewhere. UPDATE: In response to Mr Pappas's comment, below, I still maintain that he elides aspects of his services that I found distressing. Nonetheless, rather than belabor a back-and-forth, I would simply like to observe, without comment, that his reply makes clear he feels comfortable mentioning details of my family's return on a public forum. Potential clients would do well to take this fact into consideration when deciding a CPA with whom to trust their personal and financial information.
