    Primitivo at Labyrinth Press
    Mark K.

This place is a rare find, especially in a relatively out-of-the-way place like Jamestown. It combines small-town friendliness with a unique dining experience. I read the reviews and looked up the menu before we made our dinner choice. This preview set our expectations very high and yet we were still not disappointed. In fact, a couple of things we tried ended up becoming benchmarks for future chocolate-related treats. The storefront for this diminutive little shop is not that obvious in passing as it is a half-flight down from street level. It is connected to the bar upstairs, which creates an interesting mix. It caters to breakfast aficionados and coffee connoisseurs, but there is also a chance to experience some creative dinners and lunches. This includes the provision of an extensive choice of beers and wines. On their website, it says it was "born a coffee shop, (that) married a craft beer and wine bar (that) hatched a full service restaurant". It's a unique evolution. The seating area in the lower level is quite compact. It is clear that it caters in large part to takeaway business. But there is seating in the lower level for 30 or 40 people with an option to go upstairs to the connected bar (the Brazil Lounge). There apparently is also patio seating available in warmer weather. Upon entering, we were greeted by a busy employee behind the counter, who invited us to sit where we would like (including upstairs if we wanted). The atmosphere in the quiet lower level suited us better on this occasion and there were still two or three empty tables when we arrived at 6 PM on a Thursday. The vibe was very casual, cozy and unpretentious. We opted for a window booth. Our server, Kate, attended to us right away and did a great job. The drinks were notable. I had a hard time choosing a wine from the list, but I settled on the Primitivo. This was a good choice. However, my wife hit the jackpot with her drink, a coffee creation called the Montezuma Mocha Latte. It was an espresso with vegan chocolate sauce, cocoa powder, cinnamon, chili powder and cayenne pepper. It was a chocolatey treat with an intense complementary zing. This concoction set a standard for a liquid chocolate treat. The vegetarian menu offered several inventive and inviting options. We are not vegetarians, but we still enjoy good veg dishes. And what we tried here had to be among the best we have ever had. For a starter, we opted for the Mediterranean Plate, which included sweet peppers, garlic stuffed olives, grilled flat bread and crackers. The dips were hummus and whipped feta topped with honey. The feta was the highlight, but the peppers were also unusually good and the flat bread was warm and scrumptious. For her main, my wife had a Peppadew Grilled Cheese Sandwich. This was also a huge winner. It was a case of comfort food with a wonderfully flavorful edge. It featured melted Peppadew Cheddar and homemade apricot jam. Wow! It presented the perfect meld of flavors. I was fortunate that my wife shared a couple of bites of this gratifying sandwich with me. I tried the Masoor Dal for my main, which featured chili ginger garlic, spiced lentils with tomatoes, onion, cucumber and carrots over basmati rice topped with a touch of cilantro aoli. It came with a side of that wonderfully agreeable grilled flatbread. It was very good but, if dinner were a battle, my wife was a clear winner. My selection was terrific but hers was superbly memorable. Then came dessert...OMG. There were some fabulously licentious options, but we finally decided on the Espresso Truffle Cake. This presented a flourless cake crust made with black and Dutch cocoas, dark chocolate and espresso powder topped with a chocolate espresso cream cheese mousse and finished with a layer of chocolate ganache. Again, this instantly became another standard bearer for us, this time for chocolatey desserts. It was a great experience, especially with a dark roast coffee to go with it. What we ordered was a lot of food for two people. But enough of my meal was left to take away along with half of the dessert. The total with food, drink, tax and tip was $80. Considering the high quality of the fare and the fact that there was enough left for another meal, I was not unhappy with the final tally. The prices in this place were very fair and even relatively inexpensive by today's standards. You can certainly walk away spending a lot less than we did and have a great meal. However, I would do nothing different in terms of what we ordered if I had it to do again. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a while made even more enjoyable because we discovered a hidden gem. I hope we have the chance to try this place again.

A very cosy atmosphere tucked away in Jamestown, Labyrinth Press serves a plentiful of delicious vegan and vegetarian meals. I ordered a lemonade to drink and you could certainly tell it was made in house :) We split a spinach and artichoke dip for our appetizer, a very bold taste of delicious creamy cheeses within the dip made it savory and flavorful with the whole app being perfect for a crisp colder day. I ordered The Havana Shakedown burrito as my main, the mild kick from the salsa paired with crunchy matchstick carrots, soft black beans, rice, and lettuce pairs perfectly and even comes in other forms such as a salad or bowl. Labyrinth Press Company is a diamond in the rough in Jamestown and I would definitely recommend visiting.

This is the place to go for vegan lovers! I got the gluten free flatbread and it was everything I hoped for. The war fries were absolutely amazing and so flavorful! The atmosphere is very cool and cozy with attentive service! Come check it out!

I was in town for 24 hours and I always look for unique places when I'm out of town. It was st Patrick's day weekend and they had a cute st pattys day menu, I got the matcha and it was probably the best I've had. I also had the grilled cheese and it was amazing!!! Such a fun atmosphere. And I think there is a bar upstairs :)

It isn't a frequent occurrence that I run into an exciting, friendly, amazingly delicious, restaurant on the road. The food, ambiance, and the hospitality are all the ingredients that I look for a rarely find the combination. On this, our first visit to Jamestown, NY, my wife, our dog, Blaze, and I made the discovery of finding Labyrinth, a restaurant that I could truly be happy by eating from their extensive menu, seven nights a week. The food was prepared fresh, hot, and was a gift to all my senses. Trying to find creative vegetarian and\or vegan fare on the road can be difficult to attain. We tried several dishes from wraps to hash to sandwiches to brownies. Their smoothie and lemonade were delicious enhancements to the meal. We brought our 85 pound Newfy-Poodle mix. He was graciously welcomed and given water and treated like a special guest, while we sat out on the lovely patio.

Are these the angel wings of a breakfast sandwich? Yes, the Rockin' Rohler is divine. It might be the best I've ever had: perfect egg, fresh avocado, just the right amount of kick from the salsa and cheese, all on a roll that will improve your life. Get the bowl if your body doesn't tolerate rolls. The only thing better than the food and drink is the people. The staff are kind and helpful. The fellow customers are chill and joyful. So grateful I got to spend some time and money here.

Apparently this is the same place as Labyrinth, it's a bar upstairs called Brazil with additional seating UPSTAIRS . Very confusing.

When people walk in, they should not be left ignored. We stood at the door looking completely lost, it was our first time there. No one acknowledged/greeted us yet staff not far away. We eventually saw a small sign to seat ourselves. We walked around and no tables available. It's very small, eclectic decor, but kinda dark. They actually allowed one guy with nothing in front of him but a book bag and a laptop to work/lounge around at a table for 6 drinking coffee. As we were about to leave, a waitress said there is more seating upstairs as she walked away. Had she not said that, we never would have known or seen the rickety old staircase. Upstairs was no better, but at least there was one table open, a table of six which we had no business sitting at as we are only a party of two. We sat for quite a while waiting with a waitress that was working with a table next to us. After a few trips past our table, we were still ignored, we finally just got up and left. No one cared, which is odd to me. A smile, a kind voice of reassurance that they saw us and would be right with us would have been completely acceptable, we are not unreasonable people and were quite patient. Would love to tell you about their food, but it never happened. Not a great first impression, and unfortunately for them it's also our last.

We're on a road trip and needed dinner. Jamestown was the place. We decided to stop. Of course we checked yelp and Google for recommendations. This restaurant ranked high on both. We were not disappointed. Everything we ordered was outstanding. I wish that I could've bought extra vegetarian patties and took them home. They offer that, but we were on the first leg of our trip and it would not be wise to buy food that needed to be refrigerated at this time. We might need to make a special trip, two hours and 45 minutes from our home, to come back here to eat this delicious food. We will be back somehow someway..

Happened to be in Jamestown for lunch and this place is incredible! Who would have thought such an amazing coffee bar/cafe/restaurant with outdoor seating, unique healthy eats, vegetarian-heavy menu and excellent soups existed in Jamestown? Definitely do yourself a favor and pop in if you're visiting. I had the veggie bibimbap which was full of fresh veggies and an egg and top with a delicious sauce. The real winner of my meal though was a cup of chilled borscht. I knew I couldn't resist it when I saw it on the menu and it did not disappoint. Creamy, flavorful and delightful--I don't know how often they have that on special, but definitely pick some up if you see it! My only piece of constructive criticism would be with the packaging. It's minimal which is good, but my bibimbap leaked through the paper bag and created a bit of a mess by the time I got to eating it which wasn't super cool.

We also got a small side of guacamole ($6.50) to enjoy with our complementary chips with salsa. First, the chips with salsa. The chips were very good, on the thicker side and slightly salted. The salsa had a rich tomato flavor with a few chunks of jalapeño, but the salsa could have been generally a little spicier for my taste - maybe more jalapeño? The guacamole was mostly smooth with a few chunks, and was tasty. I enjoyed my fish fajitas. A piece of fish, salmon and 6 small shrimp cooked with a decent amount of grilled green pepper and onion. Nice portion ($16.75) and came with a large separate plate with pico, guac, refried beans, rice, lettuce and sour cream. Three flour tortillas accompanied the dish. The carne asada ($13.99) came with two nice sized pieces of grilled beef, grilled onions and grilled jalapeños and mushrooms. Also came with the rice, refried beans and other sides, including the flour tortillas. My partner found the carne to be slightly tough, but flavorful. Service was good. When we sat, the server soon brought over the chips and salsa and our food came fairly quickly after we ordered. We had to ask to have our empty water glasses filled, although the server did come over twice (when our glasses weren't yet empty) during our meal to ask if we wanted anything. The restaurant is small and not fancy. The prices overall look reasonable and I think there are options to try different things here, based on the extensive menu.
