Interrogated and then kicked out while they kept our child there. (After multiple experts all coming to the same medical condition being the issue and years of court the truth was accepted by the state). Our experience was a true nightmare and traumatizing to not only us but our kids. This hospital failed our child and pointed fingers instead. Would never reccomend

He told me that my son's reflux symptoms aren't that: instead, he's "uncomfortable," stating what my son really needs are Early Intervention, Speech/feeding therapy, and OT. After 2 appointments at each, it was clear we didn't need those services. I was referred to CDH/Lurie's and, specifically Dr. Fishbein, by a Speech-Language Pathologist at St. Alexius who conducted (two) swallow studies on my infant son. The referral was a result of Laryngomalacia and his exhibiting reflux, as I was told was also observed on the swallow studies. At my first appointment with Dr. Fishbein, he walked in as I was feeding my son. I explained how we were referred and went through all of his symptoms (grunting, arching, kicking legs, balling fists, flailing arms, chewing, sour face, gagging/sticking out tongue, red face, hyperventilating/fast breathing, screaming and vomiting [oftentimes projectile] after eating). I explained Zantac, prescribed by other doctors, didn't work for us and I'd like to try a different medication. The SLP at St. Alexius said that there was marked improvement between the swallow studies. Without having seen the videos from the swallow studies, Dr. Fishbein proclaimed that there was no possible way for my son to show improvement in 2.5 weeks and stated that he would treat my son based on the results of the first swallow study. He also told me, as he watched my son finish eating and squirm (right before he vomited, like he does) that he's "uncomfortable" and it's not reflux. ?! He told me in a rather alarming way that my son is developmentally delayed and what he REALLY needs is OT, Speech/feeding therapy, and Early Intervention services. He told me that my son should have been receiving these services MONTHS ago and that I'm behind. It freaked me out and, of course, made me question myself as a mother and also my pediatrician who had assured me my son was fine developmentally. He did prescribe a new Rx (Prilosec) which has helped my son's symptoms significantly. Meanwhile, I have gone to see OT and Speech at his insistence/referral. Neither Speech nor OT seemed to have glaring concerns: just look for cues indicating fatigue while eating, and work on Tummy Time. After the first Speech and second OT appointment, we had a follow-up with Dr. Fishbein. He asked how Speech/OT went, and I relayed the above. He said, "That's not what the reports I received back say - both Speech and OT indicated there's work to be done!" I also brought in the swallow study videos/CD. He first told me he'd look at them and return. He left me in the room for 15+ minutes while he saw other patients, then came back and told me he didn't have time to view them, and would pass it off to the Speech Therapist, who would call me the following week. (She never did, and the OT had to facilitate the call. After attempting Phone Tag once, she never returned my call and waited 2.5 weeks until our follow-up.) Dr. Fishbein also told me that he doesn't think my son has reflux at all, despite all of the symptoms he's presented. He told me that only 5% of infants legitimately have reflux, and said the only way to know for sure would be to sedate and scope my son. Today we had our second appointment with the Speech Therapist. She watched my son eat and, by the end, told me she doesn't have any concerns and we don't need to follow up with her anymore. I relayed the conversation I had with Dr. Fishbein at the last appointment and the notes indicating "work needed to be done." She looked confused. I told her that we have an appointment with the Feeding Clinic in January (which includes Speech, OT, and GI/Dr. Fishbein). She told me she'd contact Dr. Fishbein's nurse, who will follow up with me. I'm thinking it's clear that we don't need this appointment. The fact that Dr. Fishbein failed to examine the swallow studies and proclaimed he would base his treatment on the results of the first study (which was conducted poorly) show a huge err in judgement. Further, no one even looked at these swallow studies for a month - a long time considering the goal should be to ensure my son receives the appropriate medical care and intervention. Further, the whole alarmist approach - telling me my son is developmentally delayed, and that he's in desperate need of OT, Speech/feeding therapy, and Early Intervention - really scared and upset me. Here I am trying to do what's best for my son, and I was told I missed the ball. I should have listened to my pediatrician AND my instincts: my son is just fine. I think Dr. Fishbein downplayed my concerns about reflux, and instead focused on referring my son for services he really doesn't need. The only positive? Getting a Rx for a PPI (Prilosec). Oh, and the secretary is THE sweetest woman ever.

Until very recently, he was only able to be seen (elsewhere) once every 2 weeks for Speech. At the same location, we were waitlisted for three months just for an OT evaluation! Needless to say, that was NOT working for us! My son needs more intensive (weekly!) services. Turning Wheels Therapy came recommended by another professional we saw. The owner, Amy, worked with me to get my son in for both therapies on the same scheduled day, and at a time that luckily worked with our crazy schedule. I am SO appreciative of that!! My son really enjoys his OT with Erin and his Speech with Kelsey. Both have been great with my questions. Erin especially has been great with providing me with resources and information regarding OT-based activities and supports. They are currently remodeling their basement area to better accommodate OT/equipment, and I am excited to see the final results! I am very happy that we found private services that works for us. My son is making great gains already, and that makes life easier for all of us!

The extreme disorganization and miscommunication is incredible. Whether the practitioners are…read morewonderful or not I will never know, nor do I care to know. After my experience with just trying to get necessary info faxed over or a simple phone call returned I will not allow this place to try and help me on my journey t conceive. Allow me to tell you the story of trying to get the appropriate referral and necessary information to RMI so that I could schedule an appointment. I was referred to a Doctor at RMI I have HMO insurance so it was necessary to have a referral from my PCP. I initially contacted RMI's Oak Brook location a month ago to ask what was needed from my PCP in order to get an appointment with the doctor I was referred to (stated the name of this doctor and at no point was I told that he did not practice at the Oak Brook location). I call RMI Oak Brook again and they stated they needed to call me back. They don't. I have my husband try and call. They tell him that the doctor I was referred to doesn't practice at that location, he practices at Bloomingdale, Oak Lawn and Evanston locations. The receptionist then proceeds to tell my husband to have the referral faxed to the Oak Brook location and then to call the Oak Lawn location to make the appointment at the Bloomingdale location. Say What? Right, confusing! So I got all my ducks in a row getting the various testing and current pap. I contact my primary to have the info faxed over to the Oak Brook location. They send it. I contact Oak Brook to see if they received it. They did not. I contact my primary again and let them know. They will resend. They resend. They got the referral but not the test results. Primary resends with test results. They then say they will send to Bloomingdale. Call Bloomingdale they don't have it. My Primary's nurse is trying so hard to help me. She tries sending it to Oak Brook, Bloomingdale, Oak Lawn, finally she says that the Evanston location received and that the fax machines at Bloomingdale and Oak Brook have been having issues and that they would send it via courier to Bloomingdale. Not sure what they even meant by that. So I contact Bloomingdale letting them know what Evanston location said. They were very confused and asked me to have my Primary fax it to a number given to me by someone named Farrah or Sarah at the Bloomingdale location. She is very short with me and talked over me almost every time I spoke with her. Completely unsympathetic. You are in the business of dealing with women who cannot conceive on their own. Primary resends. They don't receive it. They try again they claim that the incorrect wording is on the referral. At this point all the phone tag, the misinformation and transferring of calls on RMI's end I've been at this for almost 2 weeks. Just trying to MAKE the appointment. I contact my primary again and ask if I can have a referral somewhere else. That I am nervous about putting my care in the hands of a clinic that is so disorganized and cares so little about a potential patient. I receive a phone call from this Farrah or Sarah lady at the Bloomingdale location one last time. She tell me that she got her practice manager involved and that I needed to see an ob gyn and that sometimes it takes 2 years of trying before I can even get to see someone at RMI that I needed to get the referral from an OB/GYN because there were a lot of specific questions that the OB/GYN would need to answer. I had ALL the necessary testing done, the Pap, everything RMI asked for and my Primary was the one who told me I needed to see outside help and gave me the referral. I didn't even ask for it. These locations just kept throwing my issue to the wind. I felt like I didn't matter. It caused a great deal of stress, was very disheartening and disappointing. I just want others to know what I went through trying to get seen there. Read some of the other reviews at the other locations. I'm guessing its a blessing in disguise that I didn't get an appointment there.
