And they were out of our 2 favorite ice creams, so we were going to get substitutes - $50 worth of ice cream to take home - all of which we left without purchasing (with mixins so hopefully the staff likes the flavors - sinful to waste all that). The manager talked to me personally on the employee's cell phone (super unprofessional) just to confirm that policy. Worst manager I've ever heard of in the food industry and I do hope he is out of a job soon - for the sake of the owners of this place. We are regulars and now not only will we never be back, I will be sure to share how horribly they treat their customers the next time anyone mentions the place. Such a shame since they are the only one in town.

BR has been on the decline nationwide but I haven't complained before. Being an optimist, I kept…read morehoping it would turnaround. But I'm about to give up. Today's North St shop was a little messy but not bad. The dead fly in the display cup sitting on the display case was icky but that could have just happened. The bathroom not having toilet paper may have just happened but the roll of paper towels set on the dispenser spot makes me think there's a management issue. Then the service. The young lady at the drive up clearly was busy and after waiting, going to the rest room, returning and waiting a bit more she turned to tell me she'd be right with me. After a while the guy making a sandwich (and had seen another day smiling, friendly, helpful) went to the DD side and stood there. After a bit another customer said the guy/clerk was trying to get my attention for an order. Ahhhh, I had no clue since I was facing the BR ice cream display at the far end and he was mostly hidden by displays at the far end of the DD area. I went over to let him know I wanted ice cream and then he went to the ice cream side. Hmmm.... Not sure what that was about. As he approached the ice cream area he walked with his eyes closed like he was asleep or about to pass out. Then he looked at me so I asked for a sample and he gave me a big scoop of a new flavor. Should I have asked if he was ok? Was he upset over something or ill or angry? No clue. I asked for 1 scoop. He put a spoon on the display top and I realized he wasn't going to offer scoop or cone so I pointed to a picture of the cone I wanted and asked if I could have that, though I didn't see any out. My mistake I now realize. He took stuff off an old box on a shelf and got out the cone, serving a generous portion. He said nothing as he rang me up then said the total while telling the trainee (? who was complaining someone moved the directions), that she was supposed to memorize the list. She replied she has memory lapses. Hmmm, and where's their supervisor to get the customer service back on track? I'm guessing someone gave this poor guy the Supervisor or Trainer's workload but no title or pay. Clearly he was demotivated compared to the last time I ate there. Back then he was the perfect customer service guy. So, back to my realization. The ice cream was perfect. The cone was less tasty than the paper wrapper on it. Stale, almost leathery. More like wet cardboard than cone. After the first bite I was too grossed out by the whole experience that I didn't want the cone anymore. Really I think BR has pushed me out their door and on to a competitor.

I am a guest at the hotel, and unfortunately, the service I experienced in the café and poolside…read morearea on August 21 was extremely disappointing. After helping our daughter move for school, we returned to the hotel exhausted. We had already had an early dinner, so we decided to have a drink and order a light appetizer and dessert poolside. The bar was crowded, and although three different servers came through the pool area, not one stopped at our table to ask whether we needed menus or anything else. We eventually had to flag someone down ourselves. Unfortunately, that interaction seemed to set the tone for the remainder of the evening. The staff we encountered were consistently unwelcoming and inattentive. It gave the impression that they were simply there to complete their shift rather than provide the level of hospitality guests should reasonably expect. The atmosphere was also frustrating. A toddler was repeatedly screaming at the top of her lungs while a musician was performing, and the child's father made no apparent effort to address the situation. While that is not necessarily the hotel's responsibility, the combination of the disruptive environment and poor service made for a particularly unpleasant experience. The situation became even more frustrating when we accidentally left my arm brace on the table as we hurried to finish our nightcap and leave. Within approximately five minutes of realizing it was missing, my husband returned to retrieve it. Since it had been left on the table moments earlier, we expected that the server or another staff member would be able to locate it easily. Instead, he was sent from the bar to the kitchen and then to the front desk. After approximately 15 minutes, he returned without the item. That experience reinforced the impression I had already formed earlier in the day: there appears to be very little communication or coordination among the staff. No one seemed to take ownership of a simple guest-service issue or make an effort to resolve it efficiently. When guests are paying nearly $600 for two nights in a small town such as Nacogdoches, particularly at a property marketed as one of the best accommodations in the area, there is an expectation of professional, attentive hospitality. Guests should feel welcomed, recognized, and valued. Unfortunately, I did not experience that during my stay. The attitude of the waitress who ultimately served us was particularly disappointing and significantly affected the overall experience. Her demeanor was not appropriate for someone working in a customer-service position, much less one at a property presenting itself as a higher-end accommodation. I strongly recommend that management take a closer look at staff training, communication, accountability, and expectations surrounding guest service. Tipping is part of the hospitality industry, and guests should not have to repeatedly seek out employees for basic service. Based on this experience, I will not be staying here again. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and uses it as an opportunity to improve the guest experience for future visitors.

Top Line: Picked up a Blue Horse fudge bacon brownie $6 at Brendyn's BBQ yesterday along with a meal, saving the brownie as a treat for today. So returned to Brendyn's this afternoon to get tea for eating the brownie. Brownie is seriously heavy!! Very, very moist beneath the layer of baby chocolate chips and extraordinarily tender of crumb. Too much so I found. The block of chocolate cake-like brownie crumbled into pieces as I tried to pick it up. I finally resorted to pinching off small wads of it to pop into my mouth. While being very moist with oil density, the flavor profile was about on par with a supermarket bakery brownie. Plenty of chocolate taste, but minimal (if any) bacon smokiness shining through. Fudge's buttery brown sugar sweetness or cream's richness were likewise AWOL. So I'd say this was a decent $2.50 brownie. But nowhere near justifying the $6 ticket price I paid to get it, in spite of its moistness. If I'm in the neighborhood of Blue Horse's sticks 'n bricks location I may hit them up for a cupcake or some such to see how that flies. But no more brownies from them for me.
