I had a really frustrating experience at Labcorp today, and I'm sharing this in hopes that it leads to some improvement.
I scheduled an appointment for 10:55 AM and arrived early at 10:40, expecting that having an appointment would make the process quicker--especially since I have a five-month-old baby at home. Unfortunately, I wasn't seen until 11:30. That's nearly an hour after I arrived and well past my appointment time, which defeats the purpose of scheduling ahead.
The biggest issue seemed to be the workflow and overall system. The staff moved extremely slowly, and while I understand being short-staffed or overwhelmed, the constant interruptions didn't help. The technician came out repeatedly to tell everyone, "please be patient, I'm doing the best I can," which, while appreciated, actually seemed to slow things down even more.
At one point, after waiting nearly an hour, I went up to ask who was next. The technician came out, then went back in to check paperwork while I stood at the door--and then shut the door in my face. That felt dismissive and unprofessional.
Once I was finally taken back, the process itself was confusing and uncomfortable. I was asked to place my belongings in an unlocked box, which didn't feel secure. I was then directed through a series of steps--washing hands in one area, using a bathroom where the sink was taped off, returning to a different area, watching the sample being handled, then being asked to wash my hands again before signing paperwork, and then washing them yet again. The entire process took about 10 minutes but felt unnecessarily complicated and inefficient--it could have been much smoother and quicker.
I want to be clear that I understand healthcare workers can be under pressure, and I do appreciate the effort being made. However, the system in place here seems very flawed and is likely contributing to the delays and frustration for both patients and staff.
I hope management takes a closer look at workflow, patient communication, and overall organization. With some adjustments, this location could provide a much better experience. read more
