Wine tasting at La Viña Spring Wine Festival 2024!
    Marzza C.

Another successful La Viña Spring Wine Festival 2024! This year we decided to invest in the VIP passes, they were $100/person and well worth it! We were treated like royalty with a red carpet entrance and 20 ounces worth of wine tasting paired with delicious wine pairing appetizers and main dish samplings from RIPE, absolutely scrumptious! We also got VIP parking, private covered patio seating and 20% off all wine bottle purchases, and best of all access to in-door restrooms, no portable potties!!!! We also could enter the festival and walked the grounds and access to all food and vendor stands...totally awesome! This is their second year offering VIP passes, definitely worth the money! Thank you La Viña, we will see you next year!

Thanks to the manager for allowing us to stay past closing! We enjoyed the patio and drank the sweetest wines EP has to offer! Beautiful spot for a part or wedding. Loved the ambiance! Would definitely recommend and come back.

I had not been to the winery in a long time and wasn't familiar with the wines. I asked to do a tasting and was poured a flight. It was challenging as I did not like one wine and didn't drink it. Had I been able to taste wines before I would have enjoyed it more and possible purchase bottles.

All tastings for only $5. That's right. Taste them all for $5. CASH ONLY though. No worries, there's an ATM inside tasting room. The pours are super generous, way more than the splashes we get out in Napa. If only I would of known of this location back in the day, I would of rallied up the GFs and made a day checking out all the wineries in the area. This winery was the largest selection of wines to chose from, so no doubt you will find something you like. I went on a Saturday and it was packed. So, head out early. Their estate has outdoor seating and they even have live music during the warmer months.

This is one of my favorite wineries in the area. They have a beautiful outside area with a fountain to site by or a large yard with trees to sit under. They sometimes have live music too. Their wine selection is very large and I suggest doing their tastings to see what you like. Of course the wine depends on your taste but I prefer their semi sweet selection. You can also purchase cheese and crackers to snack on as you taste. I would check the weather before coming as there isn't much of an indoor area so if you don't want to be hot, pick a cooler day to come.

La Viña let us stay in the parking lot on 11/16/20. We use the harvest hosts app which sets you up with wineries, farms, etc. so you can park your trailer in their lots overnight. Luz was so friendly and we bought a couple bottles of wine from her (the winery itself wasn't open because of the recent COVID shutdown). We drank the dolcetto ($19) which was fantastic, and we're going to drink the heritage ($26) on thanksgiving! Thank you Luz for your hospitality!!! Also you can walk the property and it's quite beautiful!! Although I'm from California, I will definitely be back one day!!

    Picnic time, cheers!

La Vina is my favorite local winery! I was super bummed when the wine fest was canceled due to COVID but I'm so glad to see that they've opened up their beautiful yard for picnics. We bought a couple bottles of wine and our own snacks. It was the perfect Sunday afternoon.

Just recently was able to visit this winery especially since we are new to the area. My husband and I loved it we took our one year old son he loved just roaming around there was plenty of space between tables which I loved. Wines were delicious just wish they were selling food as well but I totally understand due the circumstances. Cant wait to visit them again !

La Vina is the old guard of Mesilla Valley wineries. Forever ago, when discussing regional wines, it was the first, and possibly the only, vineyard discussed among enthusiasts. Our group went for an afternoon tasting, and I was astounded by their varietals that are quite rare outside of northern California. I'm struggling to remember exactly, but I beleive that their tasting was a mere $3 for 6 samples. A great deal considering their enthusiastic pours. They had about 15 selections of wine, which, if you've been to other vineyards for tastings, is an enormous selection. It was almost impossible to choose, especially since they grew so many of my favorite varietals including Semillon, Sangiovese, and Petite Syrah. I also tried the Cote de Bravo (good), Primitivo (very good), and the Rojo Loco (not my favorite). I took 2 bottles of the Sangiovese home with me to enjoy later. La Vina is also well-known for the annual wine festival, true pioneers in this regard as an outlet for west Texas and eastern New Mexico wine zealots like our group. I might also add that they will ship cases of 3, 6, and 12 bottles to anywhere in the country.

Very nice atmosphere here at the winery! Chill and relaxing and only $5 for a tasting of 6 different wines. Loved the Heritage and Merlot here, they were the best in my opinion. Also, highly recommend the Caliente, interesting to have a wine made with New Mexico Red Chile! Not that spicy actually just sweet with a hint of spice. Overall though, very nice spot and fantastic people staffing!

    Wine fest! Great event!

Great end of April wine fest! Super well organized, a nice selection of food trucks (brisket sandwich was pretty good), local craftsmen (soaps, hats, dips, jewelry, etc). Good job on getting mother nature to cooperate with a beautiful day. Everything about the event was well thought out. Parking in btw the rows of pecan trees was both super cool, but also very efficient. La Vina had a good amount of wine pourers to keep everything going smoothly. There were no long lines to get wine or water and everything was very quick. The staff was very friendly as well. I did not get a chance to see the inside of the winery since it was an outdoors event only, but I would definitely go back. While the white wines were less impressive to me than the reds, I really enjoyed several of the different reds, especially the cabernet and the sangiovese. Keep an eye out for next year's event.

Sombra Antigua is where you wanna go to have a fun time. No judgments here, just a relaxing good time. While visiting New Mexico, I decided to check out the wine tasting scene. Admittedly, my expectations for wineries outside of my home state of California are generally quite low. Not because I don't think that there is better wine out there, but simply because I don't want to quickly compare everything to what I already know. Coming here, I knew it wouldn't be anything like the wineries back home. But that's honestly what I enjoyed most about Sombra Antigua. I stopped by solo without a reservation, and literally left with newly made friends that I hung out with for the rest of the night and even the next day. I mean, the people are so friendly, welcoming, and trustworthy here. There was live music and I sat and watched. 15 minutes later I was actually up and DANCING with a group of people. Shayla dancing with unknowns?! At MY big age? In this new era?! It's a rarity, I tell you! But, I did it. And it was SOOO much fun. Not to mention, the wine was actually pretty damn tasty. Yep, I said it! It was tasty. I enjoyed their Viognier, Demi sec, Barbera, and sweet cider beer. Is it the best wine that I've ever had in my life?! No, not at all. But, it's still good for the occasion and extremely affordable. They've got a large list of both wine and beer, and it's $5 for 5 tastes. BRING THOSE PRICES BACK TO NAPA!!! I know, I know... it ain't gonna happen. But, at least it's still thriving out here. The family who own and operate this winery is wonderful. They were right there dancing and drinking with everyone else. I love the family feel here. This is a winery where everyone know one another. And if they don't know someone, they're gonna get to know you and embrace you. I instantly felt embraced. What a warm and fun little gem this place is! If I'm ever back in this area again, a visit to Sombra Antigua will be first on my to-do list!

It was a little windy when I visited in March, but the scenery more than made up for it. I arrived a bit late for a full tasting since they stop tastings after 4 PM, but the staff was still kind enough to let me sample four different wines. I ended up enjoying them so much that I bought three bottles to take with me--two reds and one sparkling. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Honestly, everyone I met in Las Cruces seemed that way. At one point, a local woman nearby even asked if it would bother me if she smoked. I thought that was such a polite and considerate thing to do. Between the mountain backdrop, the relaxed atmosphere, and the friendly people, it was a really pleasant stop. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

The highlight for us was the Petit Verdot, a fantastic New Mexico wine that we absolutely loved. The ambiance is beautiful, the venue itself is amazing, and it wasn't overly crowded, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. The live music was outstanding. Moonshine Railroad from El Paso played, and they were incredible. They performed a mix of old and new country, and every song was a perfect two-step or waltz. Super danceable and so much fun. The winery should really advertise this band more because they were a huge part of what made the night special. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the setting. After our waiter brought our bottle of wine, he never returned. We ended up having to ask another waitress to put in our dessert order. He left for the evening without checking back with us, and we didn't even know he had left. Also, other reviews are accurate about needing better wait staff at the back area where the live bands play -- that process could definitely be improved. Our dessert (a brownie with ice cream) tasted burnt, which was disappointing after such a strong start with the wine. Despite the service issues and dessert mishap, we'll definitely return but next time we'll just order directly from the bar. The wine, atmosphere, and especially the music made it worth it.
