This the most authentic Mexican restaurant I have visited in Montana. The place is so authentic it made me nostalgic for the years I lived in Central America. The only thing missing is the plastic chairs. They offer tacos, burritos, tostadas, tamales and much more. You can even get basic beans and rice. The hot sauce is spicy and the woman who owns the place throws in "si" and "entonces" while talking. As I was leaving the owner told me she moved to Billings from Mexico City 5 years ago and they "eat exactly the same down there." She, also, told me she is willing to make me special order tamales if I give advanced notice. The prices are reasonable, the place is vegetarian friendly, it has an authentic atmosphere, the owner is accommodating and the location enhances urban qualities. For those reasons, I am giving La Tinga 5 stars. Billings should be proud to have this place in the community! Highly recommend. read more

When we first came in, a couple of customers were leaving and they told us that the food is great, the tinga sauce is spicy spicy and the proprietas was the sweetest lady in town! WOW!!! We are traveling from northern Nevada and wanted to try a local spot for dinner. After reading through 20, or so, reviews, we decided to go with La Tinga. The food was bland, at best, and it was more of a fast food/to-go style eatery. We had the Tinga nachos, carne gasada tacos, and the fish tacos. I am originally from Texas, so I grew up with authentic Mexican and this was a step below Taco Bell. There is an article near the front door about the owners, who are from Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas, so I have to wonder if they are no longer involved with the preparation of food because there was zero flavor to the meal. I would not recommend this place, especially if you are out of town and hoping to find local eatery that is a Billings gem. read more

La Tinga has given me a new taco life in Billings. I have cried, yes cried, after leaving Mexican restaurants because I thought, "We're never going to find a decent taco in Billings!" Well, we have. La Tinga serves truly authentic, spicy, and inexpensive food, by someone who speaks Spanish, and in a place where Latino music plays in the background. All the things I look for in a good, Mexican restaurant. My favorite dishes are any of the tacos on the homemade, corn tortillas, and the chicken mole tamales. The mole is excellent, the breakfast burrito with chorizo is amazing, the tacos and tamales too! The salsas are always fresh and flavorful. Evelyn is a genuinely nice person. We stopped here going through Billings. We like to support the small local businesses. Evelyn made our experience a delight (I believe that was her name), she did it all, took our order and made our meals. She was witty and very polite. The food was fresh and delicious and made quick. La Tinga is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The owner, Evelyn, is very friendly and charismatic. She makes fantastic food on the fast and on the cheap. Customers are greeted kindly -- hospitality and attentive service are at the heart of La Tinga. I often stop in for a breakfast burrito on the way to work; I can be in and out faster than a toasted bagel at the bagel shop down the way. This was such a delightful find. Best tacos I've had in a long time and certainly the best in Billings. We are newer to Billings and have been in search for authentic Mexican food. We tried all of the tacos on the menu as well as a fish taco that was available today. Loved them all, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the fish with the tinga in second place. Salsa is spicy and delicious. I can't wait to try more. Friendly service and she seems to know her customers on a first name basis.
