What a find! Ms. Evelyn (and friend/mama?) were a delight. Had Chips & Salsa and Tinga Burritos and they were VERY tasty. Highly recommend -- simple place with great food and kind generous service! We were offered tequila and ice cream while we were there !

Well, I can't say I was impressed my first visit here. I mean, it wasn't bad, just not memorable. But, I opted to try again a few times since that first visit and I actually questioned if it was the same place. It was that much better. The menu is simple. Everything is made as it's ordered. There are no heat lamps keeping things warm. At least none that I could see. Oh, and if you come for breakfast, try the coffee. Just the right amount of cinnamon. I think the best thing for me is the owner....what a sweetheart. She's focused on her customers, ready to "make it right" if you're not a hundred percent satisfied, makes it obvious she appreciates your business, and remembers her regular customers and their orders without a second thought. Although I still don't find anything on the menu too spicy or hot (that's a shame), what is offered is done well and served with an appreciation for the customer. Sometimes that's better than good enough.

All the five-star reviews are right. This woman is amazing and the food was so good we made a point to stop in on the way back! Not much else to say besides go see for yourself! In the opinion of a native Californian, good Mexican food is relatively hard to come by in Montana. Luckily, La Tinga knows what it's doing with respect to tacos. The ingredients are consistently fresh and flavorful. My go-to order (Tinga tacos with a side of rice and beans) almost never lets me down. The owner, who prepares the food herself, is also a delightful, sweet human. Withholding a fifth star for a few reasons: First, the online ordering system is a bit cumbersome and glitchy (for instance, you can't select a single add-on, like guac, without having to select all the add-ons). I'm also not convinced that ordering online saves much time because I usually have to wait for my food to get prepared from scratch once I arrive for pickup. Second, I wish there were a true burrito on the menu. The "burrito" at La Tinga is basically just a big taco in a flour tortilla. Last, the prices went up awhile ago, so it's a little bit too expensive to eat here as often as I used to. Warning: the salsa has an intense kick. I love it, but proceed with caution if you're sensitive to spicy things!

This small Mexican restaurant is decorated in traditional Mexican flare with authentic Mexican food. From someone who does not speak Spanish the owner was still interested in our day and communicating pleasantries. The menu was in English. The food was very fresh and tasty. read more

The food was fresh and homemade. The owner is a lovely human, very friendly and the place is very clean. Charging for avocado two dollars for three small slices is a little much when most huevos rancheros give it to you for free. I'd rather the menu have all the bells and whistles and I pay for it up front than nickel and dime me for extras like salsa or hot sauce or avocado. Also could only pay with cash or Venmo FYI I don't know if that's permanent or not. read more

Soooooo delicious & full of flavor!!! 2 of us for lunch about 1 pm on Thurs. Owner, chef, server, dishwasher Evelyn does it all & very well!! She welcomed us & explained menu items took our order, prepared quickly & served beautifully..portions generous..the restaurant is small, bright, clean, colorful with lovely plants & photos of her family & her customers on the walls. My hubby had the chile rellenos plate which he loved & I had a quesadilla (pork & veneno sauce) not spicy, but sooo full of flavor! Open for breakfast & lunch...closes at 2. We'll be back!! I love Mexican food and La Tinga is the best I've found anywhere. It's authentic Mexican in a casual atmosphere. Each protein choice is made with different spices making them unique plus Evelyn has a special everyday. She is an amazing host - like visiting grandma -from a long line of cooks. Breakfast burrito of chorizo, egg, onion, cilantro, salsa and a smear of refried beans. The eggs had a flavor and texture that was familiar, yet I can't quite put a finger on it. It was like a black bean patty with oat flour or something. It wasn't bad, just unexpected. The owner was running the counter, is very pleasant and wanted to make sure everyone was satisfied. I'm pretty demanding of my Mexican food. Tinga deserves these five stars, which I rarely give. This place isn't about ambience, which is not what I look for. Instead, the food some super authentic, super good, and showed super care in preparation. I had a Tinga burrito (not large but great chunks of meat), refries, and empanadas. Everything was authentic (I worked in a taco shop many years ago) and of the highest quality. What's more, two folks got out for under $20!!! If you want the real-meal-deal con una sonrisa, get it. read more

I'm literally writing this as I'm sitting here just finishing their amazing huevos rancheros (with their special Tinga meat) !! Yo this place is so good. Service is amazing. My husband and I went here for the first time over the weekend and we were so impressed with how great the food was. The tacos were incredible and the staff were as kind as could be. The Tinga Taco had a nice kick to it and the meat was tender and delicious. The tacos were by far the best I have had in Billings and we can't wait to keep going back. read more

Wow. I was visiting from San Diego and craving a good breakfast burrito. I wasn't sure I would find one in Billings, but La Tinga more than surpassed my expectations. I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo and added chili verde and avocado. The flavors are phenomenal. One of the best burritos I've ever had. The customer service is also phenomena. read more

Every Friday night our extended family will meet up somewhere in town for dinner. Don Luis is definitely in the rotation as one of our favorites. The remodel years ago still gives the place a fresh cantina-vibe. We were greeted & seated right away. We ordered the chips with trio dips to start; creamy hot queso, fresh guacamole & saucy salsa. Everyone at our table then ordered something different and we were all happy with our choices. I had the chili relleno entree. To be honest my measure of a Mexican restaurant is based on how well this dish is prepared. Don Luis does not disappoint. The chili was fresh, stuffed with just the right amount of cheese and smothered in the most exceptional homemade sauce. And don't even think rice on the side is just the co-star. This Mexican rice has an unexpected amazing flavor. After leaving the restaurant we were still talking about how each of our meals were so good and very reasonably priced.

Management NEEDS to give them a place to relax, and have their area AWAY from customers! Not only does this table give the impression of lazy employees, it gives the impression that the store is NOT clean.. This is not an employee issue, it is a management issue, and their respect of the area and people they are over seeing and giving to customers!

You like authentic???Well here it is. La Tinga has everything you want in a small hometown style diner setting with some of the best Mexican cuisine in Billings. Don't expect to be blown away by atmosphere and décor...but expect really good quality and authentic food at a fair price. I have visited both the restaurant itself and the mobile unit, and both are very pleasant. I have tried several items on the menu and all have been excellent. By the way...if you request something with heat, be prepared...this is the real stuff! I have only been to La Tinga a few times, but it is now becoming one of my regular stops. I came in around 1:00 pm - not busy whatsoever - and witnessed something that will never leave my conscious. A gentleman wearing a 'Vietnam Veteran' hat tells an employee, in a joking manner, to "quit working so hard". The response from the owner followed as such: "You are not his boss. Don't tell him what to do!" She (the owner) flipped out on this Veteran for simply joking with an employee. The Veteran promptly walked out past me, and, having witnessed this fiasco; followed in his wake. I will never come back to this establishment after seeing how the owner treats veterans. I wonder how she treats her employees? read more

The best Mexican food in Billings, MT. I love this authentic taqueria. The owner and chef Evelyn is from Mexico and is a purist when it comes to her hand made food. She creates her menu based on what's happening with food in her home region in Mexico. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. I love that you can have a modest portion or a generous portion based on your preference. Most Mexican restaurants just give you an oversized, burn-your-hands hot plate of Tex-Mex, processed goo. I showed up at 3 PM wearing a "Make America Great Again" Cap, and nothing else. I've never ate here and I was really excited, but unfortunately a lady who worked there who was Mexican told me to leave. She said "Put some clothes on or I'll call the police" that might be Mexican for "Get out of here you white man. Fuck Donald Trump." I think she was discriminating me because I supported Donald Trump and she was Mexican Also. It smelt like like Burning Vietnam soldiers which gave me a Vietnam flashback which the experience that much worse. Fuck Obama. read more

I stopped in for lunch on a whim, and MAN was I impressed! The food was fantastic! The sauce on the Tinga burrito had an amazing flavor that could only come from years of perfecting. I also got an order of nachos with beans, which were loaded with all kinds of goodies. That could have been an amazing meal by itself. The ladies running the restaurant were friendly and sociable, and the atmosphere was very local diner that's been a part of the community for years. This small little restaurant is one of my favorite places in Billings to have a nice sit down quick breakfast or lunch. Very convenient to downtown and the food is very authentic! You should give it a try. If this is not the type of food that you are used to do you are going to be pleasantly surprised. read more

Found this place on our way driving through town and I am extremely glad we did - it is some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. And the owner lady is, to second another yelper, adorable and incredibly polite. read more

Very good authentic mexican food! Really cant get much better than this! Very mom and pop shop and it is incredible. I would recomend the enchilladas they are to die for very nice sauce and very cheesy. Great lunch! read more
