This is definitely not the restaurant I expected when we pulled up in the parking lot outside a strip mall. Inside, we found excellent food, tasty drinks and experienced fantastic customer service. There were quite a few people in line when we arrived. Not only did the ordering line move at a good pace, the brief wait provided us the chance to look over the wide selection of burritos, tacos, meals and beverages the restaurant offers. The individual waiting on us at the counter was patient and helpful with his suggestions. We ordered, found a table and a short time later our drinks were delivered. I enjoyed the cucumber margarita and others enjoyed a mango margarita and strawberry margarita. If I wasn't driving, I would have had another! I ordered the chilies verde. It was so good. Tender pork and really good flavor. The portion size was generous. Another dining partner had a burrito bowl. It was large and according to my partner, very flavorful. Others with our group had tacos and one had a California burrito. It was so huge, they brought a half home. There were no complaints about the quality or taste of the food. Service was on the mark. I definitely plan to return in the future. It appears it would be a fun place to visit in the summer with outdoor seating and the ability to open large overhead garage doors to let the weather inside. I noticed this place was open as I was driving by one day when I was in town and thought how cute! I decided to try it the next time I was back and I was right. The exterior is great and they have a nice patio too. I ordered the Elote, the fish taco, and ceviche. I rarely fine ceviche on a menu in WI so I had to try it. I was glad I did! The fish ceviche is tasty and fresh as well. The carne Asada was cooked perfectly and accompanied with home made rice and beans that were as authentic as my abuelita's! The steak tacos are juicy and they use some of the tastiest tortillas ever ! We were excited to try their margaritas and cantaritos but they were not serving until the following Wednesday! I've driven past La Taqueria one too many times to have not tried it before.... I was pleasantly surprised to find a really, really good Mexican Street Food place in Wisconsin Rapids! They've done a nice job making the exterior of their place look inviting. It's tough when the rest of the strip mall is kinda plain and boring. But the interior is where they really stand out! It looks very festive and comfortable. Ordering food is at the counter and the menu is pretty extensive. I tried the Street Tacos with Chicken and also a small chips and salsa and a fountain drink. Right around $10. The food was quick to come out and the tacos looked amazing! They also tasted amazing! The chicken had a really nice flavor and wasn't dry like a lot of street taco places. The Chips and Salsa were pretty good too, although I wouldn't have minded a little more kick/heat in the salsa. I'm glad I finally gave La Taqueria a try. I've had better. Chef here ... and not impressed. The shrimp cocktail was bland , just lacking flavor. Carnitas Tacos once again bland, maybe add some seasoning to your pork. But maybe you're not a big fan of delicious melted cheese and juicy meat. If that's the case, try a pineapple avocado salad! Get the sauce on the side because the natural flavors are delectable. Yes! REALLY good Mexican in a fast-ish gf restaurant that has a nice atmosphere comes to Rapids! My husband and I were so pleased with the entire experience. The food tasted fresh, delicious and was well presented. I absolutely loved the street corn - elote. We both tried the tacos El Pastor, and then split on the Asada and the Chorizo. We moved to Wisconsin Rapids a few months ago. We were impressed with La Taqueria's food even before we lived here; we ordered several times when were visiting friends and family. However, we'd had issues with service (missing and incorrect items in to-go orders--especially street corn). However, they must have made changes recently. Since moving to town in July, we've eaten here A LOT, both dine-in and carryout. There have been no issues with missing items or incorrect orders and our food has always been stellar. This is by far the best/most authentic of the Mexican restaurants in town. The quality is surprisingly good for Rapids. Thank you for being here and raising the local bar! read more
