While trying to kill time towards our sagrada familia tour- we went in- randomly- to have a light meal. I ordered the shrimp tacos (without refried beans and bacon); my husband had the chicken tacos. Located minutes away from the Sagrada Familia, the La Taqueria was a dope authentic Mexican eatery. Although it looks small, they have a huge back room that could accommodate our large group of 10+. We ordered the nachos la cúcara which was fresh tortilla chips topped with cheese, refried beans, pico de gallo and jalapeños with a sour cream drizzle. The nachos were honestly top tier. They also had a cool assortment of drinks and sodas to chose from. My favorite part however was the assortment of salsas and hot sauce they brought to our table on the side. Located right next to la sagrada familia, this please is full of tourists but the food is pretty good! I had the aracherra plate. It was basically marinated skirt steak topped with some grilled cactus and served with small bowl of beans, grilled jalapeno, some rice, guacamole and some warm tortillas - the whole shabang! It didn't disappoint.. There was a lot of flavors. I would order it again! Btw, it was a lot of food! 4 hot sauces are served here and GEEZ they are spicy! Maybe my taste buds have reverted back to baby status after living in France (the land of ZERO spice) for the last year, but you have been warned! Loved this taco shop very close to Sagrada Família. They have a good selections of meats to choose from. Downfall is that you can't mix and match your meats. You have to get the same meat and they come in plates of four so two plates is almost too much for one person to eat (but debatable haha) I got the pastor tacos, they were tasty, the salsas made them extra good. I went all the way to Barcelona... for Mexican food? After walking the La Sagrada Família, we stumbled upon this little gem. Place is very small but filled with great food. Recommend you make a reservation. We happened to get lucky and were sat after maybe 10 or so minutes. It's packed but not with tourists, which you would think seeing it's so close to a tourist attraction. Beer and tequila, no wine, which was fine. Food was absolutely great. Reminded me of the Mexican food back in California. Tacos are small -- street tacos. Just the way a taco should be in my opinion. The Mexican food struggle in Europe is real, but you can trust all the other reviews by proud Californians - La Taqueria is legit. After an oversupply of Spanish olive oil and tomatoes, this place was like heaven. It's literally 30 secs from La Sagrada Familia, but you wouldn't know it because it's tucked away on a super quiet side street. Tacos al pastor were juicy, flavorful, DELICIOUS. Bean soup was absolutely yummy. Agua frescas were solid, and the fresh lime & salsas were free. Service was not the best - they brought us the wrong dish, forgot the soup, then served said soup lukewarm. At 2pm, they almost didn't seat us because we didn't have a reservation (???) but in the end said it was fine if we stayed an hour max (easy). It's also pricey for the portions. Look let's just get this out of the way now - I don't like tapas. I've just honestly never understood the appeal. To me, they are just a food that comes in tiny portions, are normally overpriced and that, no matter how much you eat, usually leave you feeling somehow a little unsatisfied. So obviously, Barcelona isn't an ideal city for me food-wise, given that it's a Spanish tradition. Luckily even while excluding tapas from the equation, I still had found a way to find foods that I liked in Barcelona for the most part. However, as much as I enjoyed trying seafood paella, churros etc. while in Spain, as a California native who had been traveling through Europe for just over three weeks, there was only one thing I was craving like no other: Mexican food. So when we had a few hours to kill around lunchtime before going on our Sagrada Familia tour, I gave it a shot and looked up "Mexican" on yelp. To my surprise, La Taqueria came up as the first result, had great ratings, and was only a short walk away (5 minutes). I knew there would be no stopping me now. So when I walked over and saw that the place didn't open until 1pm, I was anything but fazed, even though it was only half past 12, as I was more than happy to sit and wait outside the restaurant. Even as my friend, unable to stand the wait, went off to grab food at a nearby restaurant, I held strong for the full 30 minutes, even as my hunger started to really kick in. This was just too good of an opportunity to pass up. So was it worth it? Hell yeah. Kicked it off with the guacamole, which I had been craving for weeks, then went for the Tacos al Pastor. I literally STILL remember how tender the meat was - definitely a great recommendation by the waiter. I'd eat that all day. Funny enough, whoever said the food reminded them of "taco truck food" was spot on in retrospect, because that's exactly how the food was prepared, except in a sit-down restaurant. The tacos, almost unequivocally, are similar to the kind you'd get out of a classic California taco truck: Simple soft tacos that consist mainly of fresh meat, with a dash of cilantro and onions - and taste great with a squeeze of lime. But guess what? Taco trucks are dope, and that's exactly how I felt about the food at La Taqueria. The place definitely isn't perfect (very small, unusual hours - who doesn't open until 1pm for lunch?, don't serve tap water - so you need to overpay for a tiny bottle of water), but the food makes up for it. Plus, you can't beat their location. And it can't even be properly quantified how difficult it is to find good, authentic Mexican food in Europe (aka the place Mexican restaurants go to die). Seriously though, twice on this trip I've seen people order nachos at restaurants just to get served what looked like DORITOS. Yup. Here on the other hand, I'm confident that if I ordered the nachos, that's what I'd get - real, authentic nachos. This place might only get 3.5/4 stars at home, but in Barcelona, this was easily one of the best meals I had. read more

My friends and I have searched high an low to find decent Mexican here in Barcelona, and this place is defiantly one of the best. Its a very chilled out place with very friendly staff. The food is very authentic (i.e. not tex-mex). The nacho's were fairly good and came with beans, chili's, cheese, onion etc as the standard topping. First.... it does not matter if its true to tradition or not, the Tacos Al Pastor were good. Now, for what really disappointed me: Simply put, the guacamole had to have been store bought. The guacamole they serve has a "fluffing" agent (ingredient) which devastates the avocados. It truly sickens me when I find this type of "guacamole" in restaurants. Especially in a region where avocados seem to be so readily available (even Hass). I just find that there is no excuse for doing this and the starter really distracted from the excellent Tacos Al Pastor. It should also be noted that the chips are your typical (an not very good) store bought variety. I'm rounding up from a 3.5 because this is a placeholder review... I've only been here once. And maybe because it's been 3 years since I've last been to LA, I forgot what good Mexican food should be. The Conchinita Pibil Tacos were the bomb!!! I sampled the toppings from the nachos and they looked quite "meh" to me. The starter I did like was the dish with the chicharones & nopales cactus (sorry, forgot the name on the menu). It was especially good with the smokey chipotle salsa that they bring to the table. Guac was rather pricey for the portion, but it's somewhat essential to go with the food. Since we were a group of 7 we chose a bunch of tacos to try and sample. My favorite was the conchinita pibil. The Al Pastor wasn't the greatest, but it was ok, and there was another... we were getting full at that point. Never got to try the chicken.
