Authentic Mexican food. We were recommended this restaurant from a friend while visiting Barcelona and we were really happy with the food.

It took one hour to get a table, so plan accordingly. They do a good job with their menu to help people with allergies and dietary restrictions. They have lots of gluten free options since they use corn tortillas for the most part. Tacos come in 3s, so we ordered a bunch and shared within our group to get a taste of everything. Came here on a recommendation and so glad we did. It's my favorite Mexican food in Barcelona!! The guacamole is served with pork rinds, the cabeza tacos are fantastic-the best, we also enjoyed Al pastor tacos, carnitas tacos, Campechano (second favorite) and the gringa tacos. We stopped by this nice cozy restaurant on our visit and enjoyed our meal! There is a lower level of seating is unavailable along with patio dining in front. We came around lunch hour so we ordered the menu of day items. Portion sizes were great and easy to share for 2 people but we each ordered and felt plentiful. We started with a mango juice and lime juice - which were both very refreshing and light. Then we ordered the guacamole, nachos, fish tacos and steak tacos. This is the best Mexican I've had in a LONG time. And better than I've had in other places in Mexico and the Latin area of Chicago! The Menu de Dia M-F for lunch is a great combo! Includes a drink PLUS starter, main and dessert. Did I mention 12euro as of the date of this review????? Well get yourselves over there PRONTO! Excellent Mexican food for Barcelona and anywhere. I had the Menu del Dia lunch special which included tortilla soup, three tacos bistec, a brownie and a beer for €12. A great deal. The beef in the tacos was cooked nicely and the salsa verde was delicious especially after I added a few drops of the hot pepper seed oil. Tlaxcal is an awesome upscale Mexican joint. I loved everything I tasted here, but you will pay significantly more than the food is actually worth. I had the queso fundido and it was mind-blowingly good. A bubbling cauldron of melty cheese magma you can scoop into some excellent tortilla shells. Incredible. Then I went with the carnitas tacos, which were similarly incredible. Straight-up perfection. I also love that they give you a wide array of salsas. I normally LOVE super-hot salsa, but the stuff they give you on the hotter end nearly melted my face off. That's good, but I was chugging my margarita to help the third-degree burns to my throat. (It's not a bug, it's a feature.) The server at Tlaxcal also spoke excellent English, though I was trying to converse in Spanish. Were queso, three tacos, and a bottle of water worth 22,90€? Not exactly. I mean, it was damn fine Mexican food, but I think the prices are out of whack. That said, would I return? Very likely. Bravo, Tlaxcal. Went on a trip to Barcelona for part of my honeymoon! Wasn't 100% sure what food was going to be like in Spain, definitely should've done more research...oh well. Turns out, my husband and I are not huge fans on what Spain had. All good food, don't get me wrong, but just not our cup of tea. We are from San Diego, California. Right next to the Mexican border, so when we saw this Mex style taco joint, we had to stop in. And boy...they did not disappoint. Tacos better than what you can find in San Diego!!! The meat is so flavorful and tender, we actually came here twice...in a row! I'm a big fan of Lengua tacos and their's are just mind blowing. Desperate for some food after walking around the city all day, I stumbled upon this spot. They seem to be constantly packed for dinner, thankfully they were able to accommodate me at the bar. If you are alone, the bar is fine... otherwise wait for a table because there is a lot of movement near the bar. The food: tacos al pastor and fish tacos. Those are my recommendations. The fish tacos had real avocado slices - not that fake avocado paste that you find in other places - and they give you a bunch of sauces to use. After eating nothing but tapas and Spanish food for a while, we were hankering something different so we found a Mexican joint that, much to our surprise, was inspired and flavorful. I had the pastor tacos that had a thin slice of pineapple that cut through the pork like a knife. Amazing! My wife had tamales, which were the best she ever had. The margaritas were also top-notch. Bf went nuts for this Mexican place which serves fantastic frozen margaritas (I would recommend the tamarind, Jamaica btw is hibiscus flavour) and great fresh-tasting nachos. As an American living in Northern Germany, Mexican/Mexican American food is hard to come by. Finding good Mexican food is even harder. Thankfully, this place did not disappoint. After two years without enchiladas, I started out with two salsas that were fresh and actual proper salsas, chips that were far beyond standard grocery chips, and an entree that was full of flavor, but not too spicy to scare away the Europeans. This is the third time I visit this restaurant. I had vegetarian enpanadas which I can't recommend. They were filled with only mushrooms. No beans, no nuts, no protein at all. If I'm solely rating the food I would give it 4 stars but considering everything, 3 maximum. My friend and I arrived and I can't even say we were seated inside because we sat ourselves. The air-conditioning wasn't working and it was scorching. Call me what you want but I don't like eating in heat, especially spicy food like no way. That being said, we tried getting our waitress attention to move us outside but she payed us no mind. Sooner than later we realized that she was the only waitress for the entire restaurant. We then took it upon ourselves to get up and move to the patio so we could breathe while eating. I ordered the green enchiladas and my friend ordered...I forgot. But hers wasn't nearly as good as mine. The sauce was spicy but not too salty. I also ordered the mango margarita and it was alright. I'm from Texas so maybe I'm biased because we have the best margs in the world. A few strong margaritas later I looked up and noticed we were the last ones standing. And THEN I saw a huge dog walking around inside while the crew cleaned up. How disgusting. Maybe I'm not so liberal after all because I gagged at the sight. The tomatoes and onions must have been picked this afternoon. The fresh-squeezed lemonade was perfect. The steak tacos...more perfection. The multi-lingual staff was incredibly friendly and comfortably accommodated our lack of Spanish...and lack of a dinner reservation. The only downside is that this was our first meal in Barcelona, so that pretty much ruins things for every other restaurant in town. Let me start by saying i live in Southern California and eat excellent Mexican food at least once a week. My wife said she wanted Mexican and I was a little hesitant we are in Spain, not Mexico, but Tlaxcal was AMAZING. Tlaxcal is as good or better than my go to Southern California spots. The staff is awesome and has a very laid back easy going style. And awesome beards. My wife and I started with a tortilla soup and ceviche. The soup was excellent and the ceviche was some of the best I have eaten. For main course I has green enchiladas which were the best I have eaten in years. My wife had the steak tacos which she devoured. Large servings of steak in each tacos and fresh vegetables everywhere. We shared a strawberry margarita which was extremely strong and tasted excellent. They give you your bang for your buck here with the tequila!! The atmosphere was very nice and the restaurant was very clean. This is some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. Super traditional and tasty. They even had Jarritos!!! It was great to find another Mexican restaurant in Barcelona that wasn't Tex-mex, but actually mexican food made by mexican people. Being in a touristy neighborhood, I was a bit skeptical of the food, but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very kind and the owner talked with us a bit. She made some recommendations which we thoroughly enjoyed. We started with Nachos and a side of Guacamole. The nachos had refried beans on them and tons of cheese. I probably could have called it a night after that, but there's nothing like being sick from eating too much mexican food, so we soldiered on. My wife ordered the tacos de suadero and I had the enchiladas verde. Both were exceptional and delicious. The plates are presented beautifully and the food is very simply done. They also have a very spicy salsa which I unfortunately had on my finger when I tried to wipe sweat from my eye. Very effective stuff. If you're in the Born and want good Mexican food, this is the place to go. I know there are other options in the neighborhood so you have to resist and give this one a shot. Go authentic. read more

Being vegetarians, my husband and I had hard time finding many options to eat in Spain through our 10 day trip. We were so happy to find this place as it had many options! I loooooooooove Mexican food!to the point of thinking about going to a Mexican Restaurant while in a food heaven such Spain. This place is nicely done in a big Spain and is full of references to mexico but avoiding all the uber-used cliches. It's is located in a side street of mercado del Borne in a big space. We shared some nachos and quesadillas to start and quite frankly there weren't anything exceptional. The totopos or tortillas weren't home made which is something a place serving authentic Mexican food should always do. Then we ordered several orders of tacos and they were ok a bit too salty in my opinion.
