Very relaxed atmosphere. It looks more a lunch place, although the quality of food is outstanding. We really enjoyed the lamb bbq tacos (with the traditional chickpeas broth on the side) and the ceviche's tostadas...relatively cheap as well, 4 dishes (enough to fill us up), 2 michelladas, a tequila and a premium mezcal for 60€. Where do I even start? First of all, especially for larger parties, do call for a reservation. And come hungry. The portions are very filling, the tacos over-stuffed with fantastic options like barbacoa (with a flavorful broth on the side) and lengua, good-sizes pieces, marinated and perfectly executed. For our party of six, we ordered 3 apps (TRY THE FUNDIDO, you won't be sorry!), and each person chose a different taco. (Our group shares everything so we can all try everything.) We were brought the apps, then 3 of the plates we ordered, and the second 3 after we'd finished the first... and we didn't need round 2. The apps and three plates among six people would have been *perfect*. In short, there's a reason this place has such great reviews. Go taste for yourself! read more

This was by FAR one of the best restourants I have been too, and with out a doubt the best tacos. The food, atmoatphere, and service all 5 stars. It's sad that I do not live in Spain let alone Europe so I will probably never come here again but please go to this place, the food is amazing. I love Mexican food & Tlaxacal did not disappoint! Their menu is limited & simple, with a real focus on tacos. However, they know how to make tacos! Over two visits, I had both the steak & cheese tacos as well as the Campechano tacos. Both were outstanding, but the Campechano tacos were definite stand-outs. Highly recommend this casual restaurant. It was busy but we were able to get a table downstairs pretty quick. Our server was nice enough to allow us to do half guacamole and half nachos as an app. Both were so good! The different salsas were also tasty. I had the Alambas chicken tacos..... WOW! So great and cheesy. My sister had the Steak and Cheese tacos which were just as equally good. I don't think there's a bad choice on the menu. Check it out for sure. read more

One word to sum up the food, soggy. Nachos and tacos were soggy and not very tasty. We got the beef and fish tacos as well as the nachos for the appetizer. Flavors fell flat; not the usual mix of textures, spice, and complimentary flavors you usually find in Mexican/Spanish cuisine. Yum! Yum! Yum! Perfect Mexican food in Barcelona. If you like American west coast Mexican and are tired of tapas, eat here! My husband said its the "best" Mexican food he's had all year!!!! Que Bueno. That's all that needs to be said. We tried the Guacamole, the tacos pastor and the combination tacos which had steak, chorizo, bacon and peppers. Genuinely the most well executed and simply delicious tacos we have ever had. My wife and I are here on vacation and we live in southern Florida. We were certainly wow'ed. This was a gem of a find. It seemed as if we had eaten every kind of tapas and we dieing for something different. We stumbled on to this place and saw it's vibrant and flavored based Mexican/Peruvian menu. We arrived for lunch and saw they had a lunch special for 12 EUROS during the week. It came with a first plate and I picked ceviche which was spectacular. Then followed by a main course and my wife choose a green mole chicken which was equally good.there was a dessert which included a brownie and ice cream..also the best part was a tap beer was included. Now I am sure the regular menu is great as well and I would have gone back if we had more time.if you are looking for a change of pace from tapas this is a must stop. read more

Our finicky family of five had a fabulous dinner! Not a single complaint or criticism from anyone. That has never happened. Everyone loved their meals. My son, the pickiest of them all, started with the steak tacos. Our waiter made all the modifications my son requested and they arrived to our table quickly and exactly the way he likes them. In fact he liked them so much he requested another meal! He was so impressed with the steak tacos that he allowed the waiter to bring out his favorite tacos. We all speculated what it would be, but the waiter didn't tell us until after my son had gleefully eaten the first two tacos; they were beef tongue. Upon hearing this news, I was sure my husband or I would be finishing the last taco; however our son wasn't willing to share even a bit and finish every morsel. I had the steak and cheese tacos...delicious. Husband had carnitas; I don't even like carnitas and they were so yummy, I might order them. My niece had steak tacos & devoured them. My daughter had chicken flautas and she too licked her plate clean. We also had the nachos with a fantastic salsa fresca and the tortillas soup was the best I have ever had! Well, it's so up and down. First problem was that it seems to suffer from expensive Barcelona restaurant pretentious syndrome. Pretending you can't seat walk-ins without a reservation because you have so many reservations. We were seated at the communal table. Nobody showed up. Secondly, shameless upsell on the guacamole for the chapulines, which I can't imagine how they would go together. Like yogurt with crunchies? I used better judgment and had them with a simple pico de gallo. The mixed seafood salad was a mixed bag. The fish and octopus elements were wonderful. For the love of God why did you sous vide the shrimp? The process of vulcanization comes to mind. The chicken mole was wonderful. Interesting choice of poached chicken added to the mole. It could be better by sous viding the chicken in mole. Tossing the bit of mole used for sous viding and replacing it with fresh mole would have taken this dish from the stratosphere to the moon. That being said, the dish begs the question, but is it mole'? I can't say for certain. Mole' is achieved with a mixture of dried chilies both green and fully ripe to achieve vegetable and fruit notes. Raisins were present. read more

Perfect for a Mexican craving in Barcelona! The tacos de bistec were phenomenal and the nachos were great. We wanted a side of guacamole with the nachos which wasn't on the menu, and our waiter was very accommodating. My friend ordered a margarita de guayaba which she really enjoyed. The signs around the restaurant are funny and entertaining too, with detailed instructions on how to eat a taco. Highly recommend! read more

Would not suggest this place. Service was very mediocre and extremely un-accomodating. I had ordered the salad that was on the menu that came out and was nothing that I thought it was, with having a few bites I kindly asked if I could send it back and order another meal. They understood what I meant and took back the salad and soon brought me my new meal "tacos". The bill comes and I am charged for two meals. I kindly asked if they could remove the salad since I had not eaten it but they said they couldn't do that. That being said, I would not recommend this place at all. read more

We had high hopes for this place, but the terrible service overwhelmed any good food. We reserved a table at 20:30, and oddly they gave us a 2 hour window. This is very strange in Barcelona, where eating out is a long, relaxed ordeal. But we wanted to try this place, so we agreed. We ordered margaritas and guacamole to start. The drinks were very good - hand mixed and not too sweet. The guacamole was also good, but served w packaged (bad) totopos. We ordered tacos, which all had good fillings, but the tortillas were not freshly made. The kicker came as the server started trying to rush us around 2145, by trying to remove dishes w food in them. He came by every 5 minutes and interrupted the conversation, like a pesky fly that won't go away. Finally at 2200 he told us the table was reserved for someone else. I said no, we had it until 2230. We had 2 more conversations like this in the next 30 minutes. So bottom line, we reserved a table and paid to eat for 2 hours. But the last 45 minutes of this we were just harrassed. Don't bother going here. The food is not that great, and they leave you feeling so unwelcome. This is NOT the Mexican way. read more
