Comfortable air conditioning, which is key here in AZ summers. Seems like a favorite of the locals. Clean bathroom. I'd stop here again! -Audio ambiance: the kitchen opens up to the front third of the restaurant, which makes it a little loud, and I'd like a little music. The former can be remedied by requesting a seat further back in the restaurant. I'd also like to see more south of the border nonalcoholic drink options like Jarritos and horchata, but maybe those aren't big with Payson locals. read more

This place was amazing!!! We picked this spot over the other Mexican Restaurants in the area because it had a vegetarian menu. Most places don't even have a vegetarian options, let alone a full menu. My brother got a healthy portion, chocked full of good veggies, instead of some glorified lettuce. For the rest of us, everything was absolutely delicious! Our waitress was sweet, the atmosphere is adorable, and we were served promptly with everything fresh and hot. We got the spinach dip, (which is basically the best Queso Blanco ever! chimichangas, a combination plate, and some bean dip. Everything was fantastic! I hate to leave this review because I have liked La Sierra since I moved here about 20 years ago but in the last year while the quality of the food is good the service is hit or miss. Just ordered dinner tonight and once AGAIN the order was wrong. Ordered 3 enchilada's with ground beef since I can't eat shredded beef and they made all of them wrong again. Along with 3 other meals. In the last year we have ordered there probably around 9 times and they get my order wrong about 50% of the time. Don't know if it's the girl on the phone writing it down wrong or the cooks messing it up but either way $20 worth of food dumped in the trash and bologna sandwich for dinner Just going to start going elsewhere when I want Mexican. read more

We just went there for lunch. The staff was nice. Chips and salsa were ok. The waitress took our order, even changed my wife's order for sides, and submitted the order. She came back with my food but not my wife's order. As per my wife's request, I ate my food, we did share a quesadilla, and then I asked for the check. At least they didn't charge us for my wife's food! I paid the bill with exact amount and left a few dollar tip since they did seat us quickly and the chips and salsa came quickly. Our waitress never came back with a follow up like " how's the food?" or "is there anything else that you want?". She came by a few times but never stopped to check on us. My suggestion for the restaurant owners is to keep an eye on the staff. A little more attention to the customers and a lot less chit-chat with the other employees might make things better! read more

We are from San Diego, it's hard to get good Mexican food outside of CA but La Sierra hit the spot! The decor is fun, never seen anything like it and the staff is very friendly and hands on! We dealt with 3-4 people, from being seated, margarita served, food ordered, food delivered and constant checking to see if everything was alright. The portions were good, the drinks were great, the food was excellent and the staff was beyond excellent. We'll be back on our next trip, it was a short one this time but had it been another night or two longer, we definitely would have been back a second time! read more

After a long day out, one of our favorite places was closed so we decided to try La Sierra. We were greeted and seated quick but it all goes downhill from here. We noticed something smelt awful, like body odor. After inspecting it smelt like it was coming from their menus and also their table/seats (makes me want to puke thinking about it). Luckily I had my little spray so I sprayed our seats to make it slightly bearable. I ordered their speciality, the la Sierra chimichanga and chose steak. Tell me why did my dish come out with some chicken in it too? To make matters worse the only other thing they filled the chimichanga with is a shit ton of onions, I love onions but wow. There was literally nothing else in there other then like 2 whole onions cut up and shoved in there. I had to pick around just to eat but even then, the cherry on top is that the food was burnt. If you knew you burnt the food, why send it out? That's just awful service. Save your money, go somewhere else. read more

Kinda tough to give a fair review on green salad and flan but here goes. We are traveling through and wanted a light meal. All we had were green salads and flan. I should have taken a pic of the salad. I'd guess it's in about a 9" plate and fairly flat. Not a lot of anything including lettuce! But it's $5. So hey? I guess it's ok. If you need more lettuce maybe they will bring it? Thing is, the salad came with a pre packaged off name dressing. This was on top of very blah corn chips NOT FRESH made...some inexpensive mass produced chip. It's really a shame because they serve a very GOOD mild salsa. But not a lot of it! We drained the salsa half way thru the chips and no more was ever offered! I was told they bake their own flan so we tried one. It is baked and it is the very smooth creamy type. I'd say it is pretty good. It makes a nice pic. For me the pre packaged dressing and low end chips will not bring me back even though it's close to where we're staying a few days. But in all fairness the rest of their food might be great. I'll never know! Hopefully they will rethink the chip budget? Maybe we'll come back next year and see! It's really VERY CUTE inside. This is the second time at La Sierra. It does not disappoint. We had a flight of margaritas and I was able to take several different flavors and all were delicious. Wound up with one and a half margaritas which is more than I typically would drink an entire year, but it was delicious and worth every sip. I went for the senior menu with a burrito and beans and rice with shredded beef and it was absolutely the bomb. Fresh made chips and salsa You could just sit there and eat that. Angelo head some type of a dish in a large what appeared to be a lava rock bowl and on the outside was chicken, beef, octopus and bacon wrapped shrimp, draped over the edge with a dipping sauce and rice and beans. He said it was absolutely delicious. Deb had one of their tacos, which was equally as filling. The service was fantastic and the staff persons were on point. The place is always busy and if you're ever in Payson, be sure and stop It is very well decorated in traditional Mexican flare. read more

We went to La Sierra after a long day of work. The place was cute, clean, and had a cheerful atmosphere. After seeing a questionable review, we hesitated to try it out, but I am so happy we didn't let one review keep us from such a great overall experience. I ordered the Chimichanga dinner and my husband got pollo carne asada and both were wonderful. The staff was friendly and the table and booth chairs were clean. The complimentary chips served at the beginning of our meal were served warm, which I also enjoyed with my meal. I didn't love the house salsa, but I didn't hate it,either. We were so surprised with the cost of the meal that it really didn't matter. We also had desert and the check was still under $40. A great meal at a great price. read more

For being in Payson, I give it five stars. Great service and surprisingly good authentic Mexican food. Beans are NOT from a can and that's a fact. Chile relleno, green enchilada, rice, all delicious. I'm Latina, I know Mexican food. It's good. They greet you with chips and salsa, but ask them for the spicy salsa and mix the two together. Sopapillas were yummy. They also have Fried ice cream but that'll be for next time. Cute colorful ambiance, very friendly bilingual staff. Price is relative. Good beer happy hour $3.25 COLD domestic. Drove up to Payson for an adventure and found this place. Loved the festive decor, beautiful painted booths and all the chairs were carved and painted with different designs. Chips were warm and the salsa was cold. Great menu with lunch specials and great priced combo plates. We both got the #3 combo with a Pork tamale and cheese enchilada and of course rice and beans. I loved thee sauce, great flavor and the masa on the tamale was seasoned perfectly. Definitely was hopping for lunch on July 5th, place was packed by 11:30 am. We were late getting into Payson and it was 15 minutes before closing and I asked if it was ok to do sit down or we would be happy to do take out...they were sweet and said SIT! We ordered our food and of course, got the obligatory chips and salsa, my husband said it was so good we would probably have to travel to Payson just to eat that. (We live in Phoenix) We ordered a Mix Fajita (Shrimp, chicken and beef) and two ground beef tacos to share between the two of us. The food came out fast and hot and we were out of there quickly. They didn't push us, but when your food hits the table just a few minutes after you order it there is no reason to wait around. The food, best fajitas I've had in a long time, the seasoning was wonderful and the ground beef tacos were really large for the price, I was kind of expecting street tacos but got large tacos stuffed with meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes.
