The young lady running the shop is absolutely amazing and her son is a really nice young man. I have met her husband once as well. Usually I drop by after soccer to pick up a few cups of iced coffee after picking up pastries from Arno's and lunch from the Pit Stop, also at Gilbert's Corner. She has a good selection of milk options (Oat, Whole, 1/2 & 1/2) and even have/use organic maple syrup as a sweetener option that is not too sweet but mixes well with the coffee. So far the Peruvian they had last week has been my absolute favorite. It was strong but smooth, just how I like it, and the temperature was a hot but not too hot. It is walkable from our neighborhood, which we are so lucky to have. The staff is friendly, the patio is a nice place to chill, having a short list of beers on tap is great, and the food is *amazing*. I can personally recommend their breakfast burrito, the tots, the roast beast, the turkey BLT, and the smash burger. They do "simple" food just very well. It's definitely not a "fast dash" type of place - there's typically a small line and you'll wait and sip your coffee/beer while they make your order fresh - so don't expect Wendy's speed but it's also incredibly delicious in a way no fast food place could dream of. Ok, maybe walk, because if you're like me and exist on a diet of chocolate chip cookies from Alana, there isn't much running involved. But that's not the point. The point is there is a new player in town in the home-based bakery division. Curly's Café. Producer of some of the finest baked things this side of the Mississippi. What's that? You're gluten intolerant? You can't have sugar? You're a vegan and can't have butter and milk? Just like that friend in a MLM trying to recruit you to sell tire polish, I've got an answer for every reason you can't buy here. She did the ole "Folgers Switch" (Are any of you old enough to remember these commercials from the early 80's where snooty restaurants served folgers coffee to their patrons and then edited it to make it look like they enjoyed that crap) on me and gave me some gluten free cookies instead of my usual 900 calorie per bite cookies, and I couldn't tell the difference. Zero. They tasted like real cookies. They were so good, I gave one to the spirit of John Wayne, who immediately stopped berating me for eating anything other than traditional 1950's baked in butter and lard cuisine, and converted to the first church of gluten intolerance. And if you know the Duke, he doesn't just endorse any old product that's willing to pay for his chemo. Nope, he personally tests the cigarettes and whisky he'll appear with, so getting him to say that her allergy friendly cookies are the fat schniznits (John wayne was a rapper in the early 90's), is a huge, huge endorsement for Curly's Café. But don't worry, not all her cookies and cakes are vegan and gluten friendly. If you're like the other 80% of America and are looking forward to treating your body like a roman temple being sacked by the vandals and visigoths (Interesting note, many of the Germanic tribes that wiped out Rome occasionally, had names that we now associate with ruining or looting society) Alana is fully willing to give you both barrels full of carbs, wheat, and butter, and then reload. These things are packed so dense with flavor that they actually bend time and space around them. You can actually see the event horizon around your box of cookies That's why she can only make them 12 at a time. Any more, and they'd achieve critical mass and collapse into themselves and create a singularity that would result in your own star floating around in your kitchen. So stick with 12 and leave the nuclear fusion to the engineers at MIT.

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and an iced latte and was lucky enough to snag a table for the time being. I was not informed of any sort of wait time and generally expect the service at a cafe to be a little quicker than, let's say, a sit-down restaurant. After the last person in my group finished ordering, we learned that the waiter informed him that sandwiches will have a 40 minute wait time. After all the rest of us ordered and paid, unknowing of this ridiculously long wait. When the food finally came out, it was a much smaller portion than I expected for the price. I'm not sure what took so long, if the oven/toaster was broken or something, but I'm not sure why that would've stalled the preparation of my COLD chicken salad sandwich like the bread wasn't even toasted from what I could tell. +2 stars because the person making the drinks was ON FIRE, tossing them out left and right! She was awesome and the latte was the highlight of my experience and the only thing that kept me sane while waiting. The staff behind the counter, while friendly, seemed distracted by each other and were honestly just lollygagging around when it looked like they could've been assembling sandwich ingredients. It was like being in purgatory honestly. Don't mean to be dramatic but it was like just a pretty disappointing experience with everything this place could potentially offer. Cute vibes, friendly staff, and honestly really tasty food, but it's just a disaster the way it was run from my experience today.
